Pretty solid TIPA in comparison to the others in the style.

Let's start with the positives.

Freaking drinkable, might I say "sessionable"??

Only others this easy to drink above 10% for me are Younger & Terrepin Hopzilla Side Project 12. Yes, a wee bit boozy at times but way less than you'd expect for the ABV. Malt is there but as a sideshow.

Appearance - Bright orange, clear & 1" head that subdues quite quickly. Active in the Guinness Perfect Pint Glass I poured it in. (I find Tulips take away from the resinous character I love in IPAs/DIPAs)

Smell - Aroma is solid without being overly perfumey. Mangos, Pineapple, Oranges and ripe Banana. Sugar cookie biscut malt backbone. Only thing getting in the way of a better score is the hop "sweat" smell I get, and I'm guessing it's from the Citra Hops. Similar to Knee Deep's single hop Citra Pale Ale. Unpleasant in the Pale Ale, very tolerable in SIMTRA.

Taste - All the same as the nose with a nice pine finish found in many of the highly rated West Coast IPAs / DIPAs.

Mouthfeel - Best aspect of the beer. Crisp, easy drinking, dry and bitter finish. Overly sticky malt "about" non-existent. Opposite from Ruination 10...a second bomber wouldn't be hard to polish off if you have a tolerance.

Overall - A hophead's must try. Very well crafted TIPA.

A - Beautiful looking IPA. Dark clear amber color. Pours with a nice finger head. Bubbles keep coming up through the beer and a nice thin white head remains with lacing while drinking the entire glass.

S - Tropical nummy fruit smells. Picking up mango, pineapple, and with a little grape fruit. Slight hint of maltiness in the background of the fruits.

T - Taste is not as good as the smell. Fruits are less distinct, big malt backbone comes through, with a sweet caramel flavor. Alot of alcohol on the finish. The alcohol is not integrated and hence very noticeable.

M - Very smooth moutaste. hfeel. Somehow even though the alcohol comes out in the taste, this doesn't have the thin tingly finish I associate with an alcohol taste. Quite nice.

O - Very good double / triple IPA. Enjoyed the bomber quite alot and am now buzzed. 11.75 alcohol will do that. If my beer memory serves me this is a slight notch below pliny the younger to which it's often compared for geographic reasons. I'd say this isn't good enough to prevent me from spending an few hours in the younger line, but it's still an excellent beer.

With the notion of "Double IPA" representing the broad spectrum of IPA that exceeds the normal range of the style, "Imperial IPA" emerges as the thirst for hops and hibernation grows. So that ceiling to the imperial style is pushed higher with the likes of Devil Dancer, Molotov Cocktail, Hi-Res and the like, and now add Simtra to the mix.

A shade darker than the typical pale, there's just a denser appearance that's held even though its clarity is bright and its color are shades of gold. Its eggshell-white foam swirls from beneath before it settles on top with a whipped topping texture. As the beer recedes, the glass is adorned with intricate lacing with each and every sip.

Pungent to the nose, there's an herbal lace to a malt backbone that's caramel-meets-toffee and a toasted nutty scent. As the malt character is high, so are the hops- meeting the grain intensity with its own leafy, citrus, herbal and tropical medley- leading to an all-around scent that's something of caramel-dipped cannabis.

On the mouth, its caramel-sweet flavor is creamy, rich and over-cooked; taking on toffee, sorghum and buckwheat with all those nutty and toasty flavors seeping into the taste buds. As the taste seems satisfying, the middle invites the citrusy tone of hops- deriving a honey-dipped mandarin orange, red grapefruit, passion-fruit and apricot flavor. The taste veers toward herbacious tones as its fruit flavor tilts leafy, tea-like and with resinous pine bitterness even as slivers of cannabis, verbena and sassafras peak through at times.

Its texture is rich as all those alcohol-laced sweetnesses cling to the soft tissues of the mouth, but it clings there begging for the hop bitterness to batter them and carry them off into a deeply bitter-sweet finish of high spicy-warmth and prickling-bitter ethanol as well.

Simtra is a fascinating taste that's fine letting the malts lead in one taste but then demanding of its hops the next. To and fro, this continues sip after sip as the taste is saturated by all the wonderful and challenging flavors within. Its a flirtatious ale, as I'm slightly frustrated with it, I keep coming back to that glass. I'll hate to see her go...

A - Pours a cloudy amber with a two-finger foamy white head. Light amount of sticky lacing.

S - Nice aroma of resinous piney hops and tropical fruits.

T - Starts off sweet with a nice bready maltiness and then a big punch of resinous piney hops. Finish has some juicy tropical fruits present with a lasting hop bitterness.

M - Medium bodied with medium carbonation. Dry finish.

O - Awesome Triple IPA. Rediculously easy drinking for 11.25% ABV. An awesome hop bomb.
