Had on-tap at The Pour House in Exton, PA. Poured into a snifter.

L: Pours a semi-opaque deep golden color. Two fingers of creamy white head greet the drinker. Delicate lacing.

S: Smells like a knockout. Citrusy hops and grapefruit, malts and resin.

T/F: A strong malt backbone sets the table for a big time hop experience. Lots of juicy citrus notes with grapefruit, pineapple, and other tropical fruits. Slightly herbal and spicy. Oily and resinous on the tongue. Warming at the finish and amply carbonated.

O: This is a big badass and delicious Imperial IPA and was truly impressive. This can stand up with the big boys.

Bought a bottle at the Beer Shop in East Longmeadow. The beer poured with great retention, patchy lacing on the sides, and a clear gold-orange appearance. Aromas include rich grassy hops with more of a lemon citrus flavor. Taste is bittersweet with a good malt flavor mixed in with earthy hops and citrus fruit. The body gives some good carbonation to the drink. Overall, this beer had excellent aromas that made it a treat to drink.

Golden and hazy with white frothy head.
Smell was low key, but citrusy and tropical. Taste was strong of citrus and tropical fruit with bitter dank follow through. Dry. Viscous. Alcohol was not unpleasant. Overall, delicious.

Plenty of orange color running through this one, although a super small white head that almost doesn't exist. Aroma reeks of citra and simcoe.

Taste was dry and kept the abv in a bunker. Not overly bitter, well carbonated, damn this is easily in discussion for the best knee deep beer.

Scoring a fresh one of these can be challenging, and the price is up there, but it is a tasty beer that is a plenty suitable alternative to Pliny or whatever double/triple ipa you're chasing from somewhere not local to you.

Appearance: pours a light orange color with a 2" head that lingers around a while.

Smell: citrus and hops are easy to detect here.

Taste: big malt sweetness, caramel, grapefruit, pine, pear, some tropical fruits, mild alcohol, and a hearty bitterness.

Mouthfeel: medium-heavy in body. Lightly crisp to start, smoother at the finish. Dry aftertaste.

Overall: a slow sipping big IPA that is bold and full flavored.

Looks good.

Incredible hop aroma. Very resinous and piney.

Flavor follows aroma but not overpoweringly hoppy. Not much bitterness. Nice thick supporting malt base brings wonderland calming balance.

Good.

Had this on draft. Good look and head. I really liked the aroma. Packs a punch at 11.25% but for the high ABV it was very smooth. Would definitely order this one again.

Never reviewed this but had many times. Had it recently - awesome aroma, very akin to Pliny. Fresh cut hops, biting bitterness. Nice strong malt backbone, but doesn't cut into the hops too much. This is a hop face slap, so if you're not into IPA's that much, you certainly won't like this. It's also kind of hard to drink solo, but I split it with my brother who was visiting. Very enjoyable and will certainly buy more to share in the future. For drinking solo, I recommend lupulin river. Cheers!

Look - Golden color, not completely clear/slight haze
Smell - Grapefruit, pithy, pineapple, citrus
Taste - Grapefruit, pine needles, dank, pithy, lemon peel, booze
Feel - Medium + bitterness, boozy on the backend

Overall - A massive triple IPA. Definitely get the 11.25% but goes down smoothly. One of the better triples out. Up there with OH's All Green Everything.

Pours a dark golden orange color with tangerine edges and a one finger frothy white head that quickly settles into a lasting film/ring. Sporadic streaks of lace left behind.

Dank earthy hop aroma with fresh cut grass, earthy pine and resinous oils countered by subtle citrus/tropical fruit and a pale malt backbone. Pine needle, spruce tip, floral buds and grass countered by strong grapefruit, pineapple, blood orange, melon and lemon peel sweetness. Pale malts with faint bread, biscuit and cracker. Nice balance with juicier fruit notes countering the earthy resins.

Full body with a blast of dry, dank earthy bitterness that lingers over the sweeter notes and pale malt character into a bone dry finish. Dry and sticky with resinous oils and pine needle. Slightly spicy with grass, spruce tips and dank leaf. Very bitter but the bitterness is countered by prominent fruit sweetness. Hints of melon and grapefruit with pineapple, lemon pith and blood orange. Pale malt backbone with subtle caramel and toffee sweetness along with bread, biscuit and grainy graham cracker. Some boozy sweetness and a bit of heat in the finish but the high ABV is pretty well masked. Alcohol presence takes away slightly from the hop flavors but it's still deceptively drinkable at 11.5%.

I haven't been fond of knee deep in the past, but when I saw their crown jewel I gave it a shot. It's exactly the type of IPA I don't like, bitter and chalky but not fragrant. Smell is almost imperceptible. Tastes like a homebrew I wasn't pleased with. Oily hops in a rancid sort of way. Only got 8 oz but not going to finish.

Surprisingly easy to drink despite the higher ABV and over 100 IBUs. I didn't drink this as fresh as it should have been so that is likely part of the reason, but I actually think it was better this way. It still had lots of fruitiness from the hops without too much bitter. Very nice.

Pours a bright gold color with remarkable clarity. Head is off-white and about 2 fingers high. Moderate amount of lacing left behind.

Intense hop aroma. Pine first, earthy and dank. Lemon, grapefruit, and bitter orange. Pepper and cut grass.

Taste like the aroma except even more. Hop assault on the tongue. Dank, pine, resin, and peat-y earth. Citrus fruit next, bitter and sharp. Malt is overpowered to start but peeks through at the end. Caramel and biscuit.

Medium body with medium carbonation. Bitter, sticky, oily mouth feel. Lingering pine and bitterness.

A hop heads delight. Massive in your face pine and citrus. Too much on the pine for me to really love it.

Bought a bottle of this while working in San Francisco for the week. Poured from bottle into IPA glass.

golden-yellow pour. 1 Finger off-white head.

Nice citrus fruits come through in the nose. Solid amount of piney hops.

fruits really didn't come through for me in the flavor like everyone is saying. It was a lot of average piney/citrus hops with too much bitterness.

Medium bodied with average carbonation.

Bottle date was very fresh, so I was excited for this one. It did not live up to expectation. Average beer that I would drink again.

Golden yellow in color with perfect clarity. Poured with a dense, bright white foam with good retention. Medium sweet, over-ripe pinapple and tropical aromas with medium light malt and a definitive boozy note. Medium bodied with creamy smooth, yet medium high carbonation. Medium high citrus hop flavors that turn piney near the end. Light malt flavor that is overrun by the booziness through the middle to the end. Intense hop bitterness at the end as this finished very boozy with a light sweetness beneath and lingering citrus and hop aftertaste. This was surprising on a few notes. The hop aromas were fairly light followed by a much fuller malty body than expected for the higher abv. The boozy is still pleasant and very warming - not hot - but tends to overwhelm the hop and malt flavors on the backside.

This is a hop bomb, with a huge abv that is barely noticeable by taste. But once you start drinking the abv starts to hit you.

Probably the best triple I've ever drank

Awesome beer

22 oz. bottle poured into a Founders snifter. Bottled on date: 8/3/15

Pours a slightly hazy medium gold color with a nice one-inch fluffy white head. Leaves a very nice lacing down the glass.

Big hop aroma on the nose with tons of earthy, herbal notes. I'm definitely getting a lot more of the herbal, dank simcoe than I am citrus from the citra hops.

Tastes surprisingly balanced given how hop-heavy the nose was. I get more of a balance between citrus and herbal notes from the hops and enough bready malt to keep them in check. Finish is somewhat bitter (not nearly as much as expected given the "triple IPA" tag on the label, but I guess that's what 11.25% abv will do for you) with just a touch of alcohol heat.

Mouthfeel is full-bodied and pretty smooth, with the hops keeping it dry enough to leave you craving another sip.

This is a very strong effort from Knee Deep Brewing - I'm not normally the biggest fan of the herbal qualities from Simcoe hops so I was a little concerned based on the nose, but I still loved it. And if you are a fan of herbal hops, jump all over this.

22oz bottle poured into a large mug. Date on the label is easy to find and easy to read: 07/20/15. I hope that's the bottled on date, though.

Pours mostly clear dull golden with a medium head and lots of carbonation. Smell is powerful and very nice. Citrus and tropics, flowers.

Taste is boozy, some straw, too much sweetness. Bright citrusy/tropical notes in the middle, and then finishes with a strong (but not strong enough) bitterness.

Mouthfeel is medium and rich. Overall, very good beer.

L: Viscous looking with a bright deep gold hue. Quite pretty.

S: Dank resinous, piney hops with a caramel maltiness tying it all together. Overall I found the aroma a bit subdued, particularly with what was to come when I took a sip.

T: Very piney, aggressive hop taste. Certainly malty, but surprisingly dry for such a high abv and full body. This maltiness was key to keeping the beer . Has a pretty abrasive bitter finish that is reminiscent of grapefruit rind.

F: Slick on the palate and almost syrupy with enough carbonation to keep it drinkable. Incredibly mellow for the abv, giving off very little warmth -- this was one of the more impressive aspects of this beer.

Bottled 6/11/15 (3 months)

Look: Super light amber, minimal carbonization, sticky head that retains a nice lacing on the glass

Smell: Massive hops, really heavy on the pine. There is a savory backbone to the smell, almost astringent, but always stays just on the right side of pleasant.

Taste: Pretty balanced for a beer with this high ABV. A citrusy, almost floral bitterness, with a nicely rounded malt sweetness. The alcohol hits pretty hard at the end, but doesn't disrupt the flavor.

Mouthfeel: Lots of carbonation cuts the syrupyness of the alcohol. Bitterness lingers

L - Transparent glowing orange. A finger of white head.

S - Fresh, ripe orange and dank hops with some garlic/onion.

T - Peach, mango, and orange. Lots of bitterness on the back end, but not overpowering.

F - It feels like a big beer, but I wouldn't believe it is over 11%. Feels more like 8-9. No alcohol at all which is remarkable and not even a warming sensation. It is very smooth, but I think finishes a little too clean as nothing stays around long enough.

O - Great Triple IPA. Very drinkable for such a biog beer and was almost bordering on refreshing. Dangerous (but good) stuff.

Poured from a 22oz bottle into an imperial pint glass.

A: The beer is a deep gold color with a large off-white head that fades slowly and leaves a thick lace on the glass.

S: The aroma contains an excellent blend of floral hops, fruity citrus and caramelized malts.

T: The taste starts out with sweet with strong flavors of citrus and caramel. Then a strong piney hops bitterness comes in along with a touch of an alcohol sting. The malt character is hearty and brings a very good balance for a “Triple India Pale Ale” with such a high ABV. The after-taste is slightly hoppy and slightly sweet.

M: Crisp and smooth, medium body, medium carbonation, finish is clean.

O: Tasty, goes down dangerously easy, not too filling, strong kick, very good representation of style, this is a very nice 2IPA to drink for a long time.

22 ounce bottle poured into a tulip glass

A: Pours a golden bright orange with a nice bright white head, head did not retain long, looks pretty clear, not a lot of carbonation, lots of lacing.

A: Dank, resin, garlic, pine, slight malt, not getting any citrus notes or alcohol.

T: Must be an old bottle, not getting a lot of hops on the taste, slight resin, pine, slight grapefruit bitterness, definitely picking up the alcohol, finishes dry.

M: Low carbonation, dry finish.

O: I really wanted to like this beer but I think it is an old bottle as the taste and aroma seems a bit subdued. This is why I would like to see dates on a bottles.

A delicious triple IPA from Knee Deep - nose is sweet malt, dank and floral hops. The flavor follows perfectly in the West Coast style. The malt has a touch of caramel in it. The feel is a bit creamy and lush. Though you get a touch of booze here and there the 11+% ABV is masked nicely.

Knee Deep Simtra 3x IPA.

First beer outta these guys. Only reason I bought it was due to the rave reviews on here since typically a $13 bomber isn't even considered by myself. I really hope it lives up to the grand expectations I have for it.

Look - Pours the clearest most well filtered amber I have ever seen. Head is about a finger in height and doesn't seem to have many plans on sticking around for long. Carbonation appears pretty light. Somehow that finger of head managed to leave a ton of lacing throughout the glass. 5.

Smell - Big, and I mean BIGGGG fucking pine notes on the nose. Large doses of grapefruit juice and a tinge of light malts, but it is certainly hop dominant as expected. A bit of the gravity comes through in a slight alcoholic form. 4.5.

Taste - Oh jeeze I just started the night, I hope this doesn't wreck my palate too quickly. The dankest pine notes I have ever gotten in a beer are present in this one. Grapefruit juice a plenty, with a noticeable though surely not offensive alcoholic bite in the finish. 4.75.

Feel - We'll rounded and very, veryyy creamy bodied with just a touch of carbonation . Alcohol tingles the tongue as it sits. Goes down pretty easily for the nearly 12% ABV. 4.75.

Overall - Nearly done with the beer and I can definitely already feel it working its beer magic. Well, this was a very, very fine TIPA with a lot of in your face flavor. Was it worth $13 a bomber... ahhhh.....not really sure any beer is. Would I have it again? You bet your virgin asshole I would. Best beer ever? Nah. Top ten? Oh hell yes.. 4.75.

I feel I should also note, to those new guys who see these reviews, this is a beer for experienced craft drinkers. Don"t buy this one night for the hell of it and waste your money on a hop nuke that will destroy your taste buds for an eternity.
