Simtra Triple IPA delivers a punch in the face with its very danky hop aroma derived from Simcoe and Citra hops. You wanted more hops you got them.

pour: a nice white head with a light golden brown brew.

Smell: being a 3x ipa its all hops i shouldnt even have to say it.

Taste: Wow this is a sipper. Your going to have to take a moment with this one not just to enjoy it but the bitterness on the pallet is toughhh!!! If you like hops this is your beer. Hoppy happy over here. Then you get a little bit of malts when you keep drinking but not much.

Overall: This is a great beer to sit back and enjoy but not for the beginners. Be sure to set the pallet up for a kicking before you get into this. I love knee deep for this one good stuff.

Bottle poured into a rocks glass

A - Pours a light amber, crystal clear, 1 finger head, decent lacing, and no legs.

S - Smell is cat piss up front which gives way to citrus and pine in the back ground. Really a great smelling beer.

T - A lot more malty than I expected from the nose. Cat piss gives way to a citrusy pine mid palate and finishes with a sweet crystal malt backbone.

M - A little hot but that's to be expected out of an 11% beer. Moderate bitterness coats the tongue. Heavy and slick on the tongue.

O - Big, hot, and heavy. Loved every sip of it. I wish I could get this on the east coast.

served from a bomber, bottled on 26th of May - barely one month old. I MUST caution, this beer should be enjoyed as fresh as possible. i had Simtra that was 4 months old and it tasted like a barleywine, which isn't bad, but it was certainly not the experience this beer was meant to elicit.

pours a deep golden orange, not very hazy but not crystal clear either. forms a thin rocky head that dissipates quickly into soft foam atop the beer.

smells of pungent, earthy hops (the simcoe) and tropical, sweet hops (the citra). perhaps a hint of pine in the back, mixed with the pungent, sticky simcoe scent. a really dank, resinous beer with lots of sweet and pungent notes.

at the front of the tongue, a big sweet-sugary tropical wash, immediately followed by a bitter pungent bite from the hops. middle of the mouth finds some sweetness and faint malt backbone, followed with linger bitterness from the hops, maybe some of the pine coming out. dry finish with lots of astringency and some sticky coating on the tongue leftover from the mouthfeel of the beer. no taste of alcohol on the tongue and only a slight warming in the belly (first sips i had on a rather empty stomach, so that could be why). just a huge, pungent beer with lots of sweetness and mouthfeel.

overall, i love this beer. it was the first beer i had that really blew my mind and got me into craft beer seriously, so it will always have a special importance for me. it's certainly a big beer, at 11.25%abv and 131IBUs : not for the faint of heart. but still, it is a great, amped-up *triple* IPA.
