Simtra Triple IPA delivers a punch in the face with its very danky hop aroma derived from Simcoe and Citra hops. You wanted more hops you got them.

Bottled 01/16/14 and consumed on the day of review.

L: Amber with a nice rocky/frothy head. Damn good retention for such a high abc, some nice lacing as well.

A: Big pine resin, citrus, and fruity hops. There is some nice sweet breadiness and but not much caramel malt character. Clean fermentation profile.

T/M: Huge bitterness upfront, moves into a dry body filled with classic piney and resiny simcoe hop character but with a nice fruity mango/melon edge to it. The malt brings some nice balance without getting to sweet, a great accomplishment considering the alcohol content. Dry finish with lingering hop astringency.

Overall, I can't believe that a 2 month old Triple IPA tastes this damn good. That alone makes this one of the greatest hoppy brews out there, I can only imagine how hoppy this is fresh. Buy it, this stuff is great.

Knee Deep Brewing Company - Simtra, poured into a DFH Spiegelau IPA glass.

Look - Slightly cloudy copper amber with a massive foamy head that retains well. Chunky lacing.

Smell - Aroma is some juicy citrus along with deep resiny pine.

Taste - Malt sweet and rich with a nice big hop blast after, mostly bitter pine.

Mouthfeel - Medium bodied with high carbonation. Hot and boozy but still good drinkability.

Overall - This is a great TIPA. Hop blaster with some kick.

Appearance – Golden copper with a very modest white head.

Smell – The aroma is a pleasant soft pine aroma with notes of malt in the background.

Taste – On the initial taste, one detects notes of grapefruit, resin, lemon, and alcohol. The alcohol is not well masked which is understandable for an 11+ABV. I find myself a little disappointed by the lack of a malt backbone. The after taste demonstrates resin and hop harshness.

Mouthfeel – The beer coats the tongue nicely and allows the hop assault to beat the tongue into submission.

Overall – I think this one is a little harsh. It calls itself a Triple IPA. My only standard of comparison is Founders’ Devil Dancer. I was not big on that one either.

Huge thanks to Marco_Gtz for the chance!

Poured from a 22oz bottle, bottled 02/03/14.

Pours a very dark orange, bordering on light brown. Thick ecru colored head. Strong hop candy aroma, sticky, tangerines and piney. Taste is quite sweet, piney creamy, warming, bitter, raw hops. Very intense, almost unrelenting yet amazingly drinkable though ABV does hit.

A: pours a dark brownish gold, finger worth of head, opaque
S: strong hops, simcoe and citra. I'm having ahard time smelling anything but
T: dark sweet sugary at first, the. Lots of hop bitterness at end. Alcohol is very evident
M: good
O: I've had a few from knee deep and they do some big IPAs, personally I like the hoparillo more which the same just with Amarillo hops. Would be interesting to try this, hoparillo, and hop shortage side by side.
