Thanks to Rado for sharing this one at Wowcoolman's tasting.

Pours a clear light orange with a foamy off-white head that settles to a partial film on top of the beer. Thin streaks of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of malt, citrus fruit, and citrus zest aromas. Taste is much the same with a citrus zest flavor on the finish. There is a medium amount of hop bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a good level of carbonation with a crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer that smells much better than it tastes in my opinion.

Attractive bright amber color with a thin mustache of white foam in the New Belgium snifter. Pleasantly light on the tongue with just a prickle of carbonation.

Interesting how thin and bitter this is. The alcohol is pushed up a little and the malt is subdued. This is one of the driest IPAs I can remember. The malt is just dry bones. Endless bitter aftertaste, though at least it's a hoppy flavor. Resiny without much in the way of aromatics. Three Cs and Simcoe is what the brewer says. From the 22 oz bottle bought at Barons Marketplace on Point Loma Blvd.

7.5% ABV confirmed. 75 IBUs. "India Pale Ale." Acquired at a local beer store for $6.99. 1 pint 6 fl oz brown glass bottle with uninspired label and standard branded pressure cap served into a conical Samuel Smith's pint glass in me gaff in low altitude Los Feliz, Los Angeles, California. Reviewed live. Expectations are average; I'm not big on this brewery, but I'm hoping this changes my mind.

Served cold, straight from the fridge. Side-poured with standard vigor as no carbonation issues are anticipated.

A: Pours a two finger beige colour fairly vibrant head of nice froth, decent cream, good thickness, decent lacing, and good (~4 minute) retention for the fairly high ABV. Body colour is a clear pale yellow-copper. Translucent. No yeast particles are visible. No bubble show. Fairly vibrant. A pretty standard appearance for an IPA; there's nothing unique or special here. I'm unimpressed. No overt flaws.

Sm: Lemon fruit esters, lemon zest, floral hops, pale malts, and grapefruit hop character with accompanying bitterness. I'm concerned about the balance here. Not too sweet. Fresh and pleasant. No yeast character or alcohol is detectable. I'm looking forward to trying it. A mild strength aroma.

T: Clean, with a pleasant pale malt and somewhat grassy foundation. Lots of floral hops and some lemon zest up front. Lightly soapy - this spent too long in primary. It starts out good but quickly deteriorates; a massive bitter grapefruit hop bomb hits on the climax, devastating the balance. The hop bitterness goes largely unchecked as it bleeds through the finish, leaving me not desiring the next sip. Bitterness is a huge problem here. Good body. It's pleasant up front; I just wish the second half had some semblance of balance. Complex enough, but lacks any subtlety whatsoever. A decently built IPA that commits the cardinal sin of IPA brewing.

Mf: Smooth and wet. Somewhat soft. Lightly oily up front. Coarsens towards the finish. Good if overdone carbonation. Full body. Good thickness.

Dr: A drinkable IPA that suffers from a common lack of balance and subtlety. Perceived bitterness is much higher than actual bitterness. It's not priced that badly, and I think some interesting hop choices were made here, but I definitely wouldn't get this again with so many better cheaper options out there. Passable but forgettable. Not recommended. About as average an IPA as you'll find.

22 oz. bomber,

A: Pours orange with a firm white head, real solid lace, a good looking pint.

S: Definite grapefruit with a nice undercurrent of tropical fruits, definitely in the the new school for West Coast IPAs.

T: Fair amount of biscuity crystal style malt backed with a huge punch of pine oil, grapefruit, lemon and pineapple.

M: Crisp, medium-bodied, heavy with resin with a nice long aftertaste.

O: A very solid IPA, I just wish it wasn't so expensive, this is pushing Sculpin bomber prices at well over $6, the week old freshness of this beer helps a lot though.

22 ounce bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 3/14/2014. Pours fairly crystal clear deep gold color with a 2 finger dense white head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Light spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass. Aromas of big grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, lemon zest, orange peel, light caramel, biscuit, floral, grass, light pine, and floral earthiness. Damn nice aromas with bright citrus/topical hops and moderate bready malt balance; with great strength. Taste of big grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, lemon zest, orange peel, pine, floral, grass, light caramel, biscuit, and floral/grassy earthiness. Fair amount of floral/pine bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, lemon zest, orange peel, pine, floral, grass, light caramel, biscuit, and floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Damn nice complexity of juicy citrus/tropical hops and moderate bready malt sweetness; with a crisp malt/bitterness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, crisp, and moderately sticky mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is well hidden with only a slight warming present after the finish. Overall this is damn nice IPA. All around good complexity of bright citrus/tropical hops and moderate bready malt balance; and very smooth and crisp to sip on. A very enjoyable offering.

Pours brownish burnt orange. Looks filtered, quite transparent. Bone white head, about medium-sized. Good lacing and retention. Aroma is a split of crystal malt and sort of middle of the road American hop character. The hops are heavy on orange and pine flavor with a minty herbal twist. There's a fair bit of caramel and malty sweetness. The taste is fairly sweet. There's some initial orange-pine hoppiness, but once the bitterness kicks in, the hop character gets rather bland. Too much caramel. Messy sweetness. Pine resin bitter finish with more crystal maltiness. Carbonation is pretty average. There's some nice hop oiliness. It's not a bad IPA, just a boring one. There's too much malt character with too much crystal malt. The hop aroma is boring compared to so many other beers, and the hop taste strays far too much into bland bitterness. Fairly disappointing.
