Hard to describe why, but the flavor was just off. Not very balanced. Just different hops battling it out.

Poured from a 22 oz into a goblet. Date unknown.

Look: Dark golden brown, sort of an orange amber quality to it, maybe even maple syrup, with a two inch frowthy cream colored head. Opaque without any sediment. Head dies in time leaving behind a modicum of lacing.

Smell: Very sweet overripe tropical fruit aromas, like sickly sweet on the verge of rotten fruit, brown sugar/molassas, strong lemon pine aromas, extremely aromatic

Taste: Tastes like sugared candy, like sugar coated dried fruit, peaches, melon, oranges, lemon, grapefruit, and pine, lots of big flavors swirling around but they seem to be pretty balanced. Sweet buttery biscuit dough round out the palate. Some mild roasty elements are apparent on the finish. Very very sweet.

Feel: Slick body, not quite chewy but very silky, leaves a bit of alocohol burn on the way down but still quite smooth and one can only expect some heat from a beer of this gravity. Leaves a medium astringency in the mouth on the finish but not nearly as bitter as many other American Barleywines.

Overall: An enjoyable and complex tasting beer that definately leans on the sweet end of the spectrum. Id say that is my number one criticism of the beer but I also think that the intense sweetness allows the other flavors to meld without becoming overly biting. Its okay but my clostest comparisons would be Hi-Resin from Sixpoint or Hopsolutely from Fegley's and I'd take either over this. Still worth a shot if you can stand the sweet stuff.
