it's not perfect, i just really really really like it. dark as the night time that it's named after, it poured into my tumbler smoothly and left a dark caramel head. ringlets are all i see now as i look down into the empty glass. this smelled stronger than it tasted, the hops were very aromatic in the nose, but not as strong on the tongue while on the way down. only slightly marked down; mine was carbonated a bit more than i wanted, and it could have been just a bit thicker. as drinkable as it is, i plan on trying a few more soon! so glad my local shop started stocking this! get it while it's hot!

This black ipa pours a near black mahogany color with a generous off-white head that lacks retention but does leave nice lacing. The nose is very hoppy. Lots of west coast hop qualities under ridden by a very roasty malt consisting of dark roasted coffee and burnt dark fruits. The mouth is quite full and heavy. Needs a little more carbonation to be classified as smooth. The flavor is big and rough. The hop and roasted malt qualities are very abrasive but in a very good way. There is also quite a boozy bite on the finish. If you like big, abrasive ales seek this out. If you like subtler flavors, look elsewhere.

Midnight Hoppyness....I was surprised when I poured this from a bomber into a pint glass, and it came out black....hence the name. Duh.

Good looking beer. Dark black with a large muddy head.

Smells of sweet chocolate, with a crispness that hints of hops. That would be the only clue so far that this isn't a stout.

Tastes pretty strongly of alcohol, starts somewhat sweet, and finishes bitter. Kind of rough.

Pretty strongly carbonated..

Overall, this tastes a little unfinished. Like it should be aged, or tweaked a bit in the brewing process. A bit rough for me.
