a: served in a full-size goblet, this saison is an opaque-hazed, deep orange-golden in color, starts with a nice head but quickly falls to only a thin ring around the glass

s: lots of pale malt - a touch grainy and honeyed, hops mostly dried citrus but herbal at times, delicate spice and a solid yeasty ester aroma, sweet orange peel

m: carbonation low and a touch prickly, body slick and nudging towards the full side of medium

t: flavors of sweet pale grain, more than the typical pils malts with some sweeter honey and grainy flavors present, citrusy and herbal hops, quite yeasty, some sweet esters, the herbs and spice really push through on the palate, orange peel, a mid-range bitterness partially dries the finish, maybe just a little soapy

d: certainly non-traditional but I quite liked this one, easily drinkable

Had on tap at MadFox and took home a growler for the weekend.

Brew pours a dark golden hue that is clear and murky at the same time. Head formed pretty easy though could of been a bit better. color was white with the slightest hint of a off white tan. Aroma is very mild with only the slightest of sweet crisp smell. The taste is great as the sweet light fruit flavors wash around. The balance is great but I feel this brew could use a bit more carbonation. WIth the carbonation the aroma would be more apparent and it would help with the body of the brew as well.
One of my favorites from Mad Fox, must try if you are in the area.

Received this growler from Desaparecido in my Birthday BIF box. Thanks Edgar!

Poured into a MJ tasting glass. Pours a deep golden hue with orange tints and a big white fluffy head. Nice lacing.

Aromas of light lemon, peppery yeast, and caramel malt.

Flavors of big malt bomb, pepper spice, lemons. Light tartness. Finish is long on the malt and tart lemon.

Mouthfeel is not as dry as expected for the style. Mouthcoating light spiciness.

Overall a very nice saison. Not as dry and quenching as I am used to, but still very good. Will enjoy finishing off this growler.

On cask at the brewpub. Reviewed from notes.

Pours a deep yellow with a nice billowing white head and a decent amount of lacing. Nose brings forward quite a bit with some nice earthy aromas as well as a bit of citrus. A bit of yeasty esters as well. Taste is a bit restrained with a bit of malt coming through and the earth, citrus, and yeast falling into the background a bit. Feel is medium with good carbonation. Drinks pretty well. A bit low in flavor at this point, although I'm hoping Bill is really able to develop the flavor in this one.

Served in a goblet.

My new favorite at my new local brewpub. It pours a slightly cloudy pale straw topped by a finger of white micro-foam. The nose comprises lemon zest, light florals, and some fragrant wheat. The taste kicks things up a notch with notes of lemon, mandarin oranges, mango, strawberry, wheat, citrus hops, coriander, honey, and finish of floral bitterness. Some light earthy spice notes are in there as well at different points. I love the ridiculous fruity amalgamation. The body is the lightest possible medium, with a light moderate carbonation and a juicy, refreshing feel. Call me a homer, but this is one of the best saisons I've ever had. Seriously.

App - pale amber color, slightly cloudy. Poured a decent sized white head, finely bubbled and with moderate retention.

Aroma - A nice blend of a slightly sweet, floral nose, with a bit of Belgian spiciness. Very slightly peppery.

Taste - Nice maltiness up front, but never overly sweet. Pepper and other spices from the yeast balance out the malt, and finishes with a lingering spicy bitterness. No distinct hop presence, in fitting with style. Distinctly Belgian flavor profile without being overly "wild".

MF - Medium body, and moderately high carbonation. Carbonation works to enhance the fermentation spiciness, and acts to dry out on the tongue a bit. Certainly not astringent, though.

Overall - A nice fresh example of the style, and tremendously drinkable. Hardcore Belgian fans may find it too tame, but just right for my taste buds.

Deep yellow/ gold hazy thing with white head.

Aroma of citrus - a blast in the face - and a little honey and clove.

Flavors got weird. Too much juicy citrus character, and not enough austere earthiness and spice. It even had the phenolics of a hefeweizen, which is way off the mark for this style - it was more like a witbier meets hefeweizen, which if you're gonna put the label of Saison on, aint cool.

More honey and sweet bread character with sweet citrus through to the finish. blah. Cloying in its sweet citrus character.

An American upper middle class suburban blond-haired white girl's saison.
