a: served in a nonic pint, the beer is a deep brown in color with bright orange-red hues showing, nice head with good retention

s: nice malty nose, dark caramel and nutty toasted malts, mild earthy hop aroma, dark sugars

m: body around medium with a smooth cask carbonation

t: lots of toasty, sugary malts, toffee, light fruits, hops mild and earthy - giving a light bitterness to the malt-balanced beer, while there's plenty of character, it's clearly not intended to be some complex monster, but rather a satisfying easy drinker - and it fills that spot quite well

d: no problems here, a tasty little red ale that packs lots of flavor given its lower strength

From tap to nonic pint glass at Mad Fox on 3/27/12
*From notes

-- Listed as "Rockstar Irish Red Ale" --

A: Filtered crimson. A meager .25 finger heads dissipates a bit too fast for my liking. Decent yet uninspiried collar remains.

S: Candied malt. That's about it.

T: Pretty plain Jane. A bit metallic up front, which leads to plenty of malt and warm caramel on the mid, and a touch of yeast on the finish.

M: Slightly oily. Not enough carbonation "pop" or texture to add anything worthwhile to the brew.

O: Meh. This isn't a Rockstar to get worked up about. No need to book your tickets in advance for this show. A beer for the masses, maybe? Nothing about this one excites me, and I don't foresee myself returning to it.

On tap at the brewpub. Served in a ping glass.

Pours a dark red-mahogany. A bit dark for the style, but that's okay with me. Thin light tan head and a bit of lacing. The nose brings forward plenty of bread crust plus a little toast and some light malt sweetness. Faint earthy hop presence as well. Flavor is all malt. Definite liquid bread going on here. Quite enjoyable. Mouthfeel is medium and chewy. A nice example of the style.

From 04/23/11 notes. Had on tap at the brewpub.

a - Pours a dark reddish color with one inch of white head and moderate carbonation evident.

s - Smells or caramel malts, roasted malts, toasted malts. Mostly toasted malts here.

t - Taste is a lot of malts up front, mainly toasted malts again, as well as roasted malts and light caramel. Also some hops in the taste, a little step up from the nose.

m - Medium body and moderate carbonation.

o - Overall a nice above average red ale. Lots of malts, especially toasted malts. Something I would have again.

This was listed on the menu as "Rockstar Irish Red Ale". I assume these are the same beers. Beer is red, dark red, mostly clear with an off white cap fo small bubbles, some lacing, some carbonation.

Aroma is a little sweet and a little roasty.

Beer is a little bitter on the back end from some grains, roasting, but the overall beer is fine, sweet up front perhaps a little cidery, it is a fine Irish ale that I could recommend for those that prefer Irish ales but I doubt it is a repeat for me.

A: Very dark-reddish brown, fairly clear though, with ruby highlights around the edges when held up to a light source. The flimsy head was 1/4 finger at best.

S: Roasted malt, caramel, and with slight sweet puffs of yeast.... sort of like breakfast cereal actually.

T: A bit thin, but not too. It sort of tasted like a melted lollipop combined with old cake icing. Caramel, toffee, and mild candy sugar.

M: The carbonation was a bit on the low side for my taste, but it still wasn't offensive. The mild sweetness wasn't offensive and the lacing was virtually non-existent.

O: I dig this style overall, but this was just a half-hearted version of an Irish Red.
