Poured from the tap at the brewpub into a taster. Its appearance is dark amber to iced tea in color, white cap of bubbles, no lacing. Aroma is clearly from the wine barrel aging - grape skin, oak, and tart cherry. Flavors follow with a bit of vanilla. Medium sweetness and a little woody bitterness. Medium bodied, thin mouthfeel, low carbonation, abrupt dry finish.

Pours a dark cola brown, big full light tan head.

The nose is dark malt, grains, a little dark fruit, and toast. The flavor is full but not dry, dark fruit, currants, dark malt, sweeter aftertaste. The finish is smooth, a bit sticky. A nice saison for the winter.

Overall pretty good.

Served on tap at Mad Fox, served in a tulip glass. Beer is black / dark brown with a thin lazy off white head, some lacing, moderate to low carbonation.

Aroma is a little odd, it is estery, sweet, with a mild roast, perhaps some smoke, it is odd.

Beer is medium in body, too heavy on the palate for the yeast, the yeast is lost and the finish is a little rough. I don't think I'd repeat it, not a great beer.

On tap at Mad Fox.

Pours a dark, syrupy dark brown with a thick light tan head that fades to a thin collar. Meaty and roasty nose with spice, lactic sugars, yeast and clove. Flavor is milky, smokey and meaty with a strong roast and earthy finish. A nice black beer but not my favorite dark saison. Medium bodied, light carbonation and a thick chewy finish.

Had on tap today at the brewpub; the waitress said it had just gone on tap this morning. Was not on the menu so not sure if this will be the name or not, but she said for now it was just being called their Black Saison, and she also said it was 6% ABV. Tried it side by side with their normal Saison, which I like a lot.

a - Pours dark mahogany brown color with one inch of off white head and moderate carbonation evident.

s - Smells of roasted malts, spices, yeast, light bready malts. Not bad, but a lot of roasted notes and not a ton else going on.

t - Tastes of roasted malts, spices, chocolate, light yeast, and some dark fruits. Lightly sweet, and a step up from the nose.

m - Medium body and moderate carbonation. Pretty easy to drink.

o - Overall another good beer from Mad Fox. While quite different, I prefer their normal Saison, but worth checking out. Lots of roasted notes and the taste had some nice sweet fruit and chocolate as well. Would have it again.
