Cheers to Goblinmunkey7 for sharing this beer

Note: bottle purchased at Winooski Beverage Warehouse in 2012

Appearance: Hazy, medium amber - the bottle opens with some big carbonation, fades to a medium head, solid cap, leaves some nice streaks of lacing

Smell: Funky and interesting - some nice saison yeast, with some barnyard aromas, clove, pepper, and spice - pale and caramel malts - earth and some dirt, but also very clean - some light fruits, like apple, as well as some lemon - lightly phenolic - some nice tartness

Taste: Tart, funky, tasty - pale and caramel malts, with a touch of amber grains - lightly toasty - really nice yeast component, with a touch of barnyard, clove, lemon, and pepper - some really nice light fruitiness, with both esters (apple) and tart notes (lemon) - finishes tart and dry

Mouthfeel: Somewhere between light and medium - nicely dry, nicely tart, finishes very clean

Overall: More fortunate than Sankt Hans Moleman

This is a lovely saison. I hope it gets brewed again, and sees distribution beyond the Hill Farmstead property line. It's nicely funky and tart, yet also clean. Quite, quite nice.

look: 3.75 | smell: 4 | taste: 4.25 | feel: 4 | overall: 4

Appearance: Hazy amber gold. Fluffy, sticky, white head. Drops to a tiny chunk of a cap with big sticky lacing.

Smell: Lightly tart. Carries some nice yeasty funk. A touch bready with some hints of acetic tartness. Some powdery yeast and some vague fruity elements. Slight caramel malt sweetness. A touch of apple. Some pearr and even a touch of mango. Nicely fruity. A bit of leather.

Taste: A bit less tart than the nose. Mild malt backbone adds some caramel malt sweetness as a compliment. Yeast is powdery and light leaving some solid earthy and grassy notes. A bit damp and musty, with a slight toasted and roasted malt element as well. A touch acetic. A vague sort of nuttiness coupled with an almost cocoa nib note. Woody. Herbal and slightly floral as well.

Mouthfeel: Medium moving toward light body. Moderate to high carbonation. Slightly dry.

Overall: Summer, not Gruber.

A nice balance of tart and funky. The darker malt profile gives it a nice touch of sweetness.
