How quickly the crowd grew behind me @ the HFS retail store whilst the lovely Carrie and the hard working Phil diligently filled my 750ml growler request list! I decided to check out the Grassroots Brewing offering while I was getting my Hill Farmstead fills, and it turned out to be a prudent move.

Out of the swing top growler and into my Alchemist tumbler, Grassroots Legitmacy pours a familiar hazy yellow common to hop forward well crafted Vermont IPAs. Carbonation largely hidden behind the hazy appearance, but a generous soapy 3 finger cottony head lets you know it is present and accounted for.

Aroma is hop forward with a distinct yeast element playing out: grapefruit and tangelo are prominent, mouth watering.

Taste is explosive with citrus, and has a nicely balanced yeast character: quite refreshing and inviting of another long sip. Booze undetected , well balanced flavors: one can understand why Mr. Hill allowed this IPA to be taken seriously by allowing it to be produced @ HFS.

Mouthfeel is light to medium, excellent carbonation, dry & crisp finish:just plain textbook mouthfeel.

Overall, another triumphant hop forward state-of-the-art Vermont IPA offering that also proves hard to find, even for folks that reside in VT. Delicious, refreshing, and satisfying, this one comes highly recommended for those that adore hop forward IPAs of the citrus quality variety.

Growler to vessel

Light hazy yellow with a solid quilt of whites. Smells of resin, grapefruit, some light malts, a little bit of orange zest. Some bits of peach also in the nose. Flavor is light malts, some sweetness, some grass and pear juice, some interesting chemical character. Really not seeing the appeal others are getting here; seems really simple and not really all that special. Medium on full bodied for the style with fairly hi carb and an off dry finish. Meh.

750ml growler poured into a Hill Farmstead wine glass.

The beer pours a light lemon color, quite hazy, with a few bubbles rising to the top of the glass. A finger or so of white head rises from the beer that leaves a tremendous amount of lace behind and has great retention. The aroma is so beautifully citrus forward, fresh orange, grapefruit and light lemon zest, touches of mango and other tropical fruit, just a touch of pine with some sweet pale grain and straw behind it. The beer is incredibly juicy on the tongue, bursting with citrus, grapefruit, orange, tangerine and lemon with some slight pale malt that creeps into the finish with just a bit of bitterness and pine. The body is great, really juicy that coats the mouth very well and finishes with a nice creamy touch that imparts just enough dryness.

Verdict: Yet another fantastic IPA from Shaun at Hill Farmstead, the citrus qualities of this beer are unbelievable and it is one of the most drinkable IPAs I've tasted to date and has so much flavor for just a 6.70% beer. I feel like a broken record signing praises of Shaun's hoppy exploits, but this one was earned it too.

Growler poured into a Hill Farmstead wine stem.

Pour: Body is a mostly hazy, bright mango body. A nice, two fingers of fluffy, sticky white head forms and leaves some nice lacing.

Smell: Bright, juicy citrus notes explode on the nose. Orange, tangerine, and tangelo. Some pineapple. A nice light raw rolled oats sneaks in the background. Mostly controlled by heavy citrus fruits.

Taste: More of the same from the nose - juicy grapefruit, orange juice, orange zest, and tangerine pulp. A touch of raw doughy sweetness. Lightly acidic from the orange juice. Finishes with a lingering citrus juiciness.

Mouthfeel: Ridiculously refreshing and bursting with citrus juice. A lightly tingling carbonation mixes well with the acidity from the juice. Finishes with a lingering citrus.

Overall: Another fantastic IPA with citrus juice added from Shaun. Ridiculously drinkable. Light a Society & Solitude #5 light.

750ml growler poured into a Noda snifter.

A~ glowing light orangey yellow. definitely resembles a mimosa. nice flowing white head and a lot of lacing all the way down.

S~ lots of tangerine, followed by a nice amount of pine and hop bitterness on the finish.

T~ takes a slight spin off course, first you get some fresh cut grass which then tastes like it was marinaded in a crazy citrus infusion of tangerines, lemons, oranges, and clementines. more earthyness on the finish, pine, grass, and a little hay. of course leaving which seems like a citra hop bitterness on the palet.

M~ very smooth, crisp, and refreshing. nice carbonation and a tad dry from the hops.

O~ really nice, well balanced IPA. great for a hot day like today. definitely worth a try but i wouldn't put it in my top 10 or anything... especially after having Mag 7 last night haha

750mL growler purchased 6/5/13 and poured into a HF snifter on 6/7.

A. Pale gold. Hazy. White head, light lacing.

S. Lemony citrus bordering a light grapefruit. grass. slightly resinous and piney. smells like citra, sorachi, simcoe.

T. Smooth yet intense. Bitter, but not harsh. Same lemon citrus. very tasty.

M. Light and crisp, toungue coating bitterness, but fades fast enough for ou to need another sip. Or another growler.

O. Amazing. I wish I could have it every day.
