Long live the King. King Sue that is. Her ferocious bite will make sure all newcomers learn to toe the line. And what better way to exude her influence than with this Citra Hopped Double IPA. Followers will cheer. Enemies will crumble. But don’t take her lightly, because when this double IPA is on a rampage, nothing will stand in her way…

Poured from a leaky growler into a Prairie Teku glass. Reviewed from notes.

Appearance: A hazy orange, yellow amber with a white head that leaves particularly spotty lacing.

Smell: Loads of citrus, tropical fruits.

Taste: This beer is more like drinking mango puree than any other beer I've had. Everything about the taste screams mango-bomb. I've never understood "tropical fruit" flavors in a beer until I tasted this. Papaya plays background behind the mango, and creamy malts accentuate the mango flavors. Bitter but not unbearably so, with a little bit of pine.

Mouthfeel: Low carbonation, but that isn't the fault of the beer, just of the leaking growler. Very sticky, and lingers quite a while. Will likely re-review when the replacement growler arrives.

Overall: There are a million "very good" IPAs out there. Elevated, Enjoy By, Double Sunshine, Heavy Machinery, and many others. Flavors are solid but nothing particularly unique or interesting is going on to elevate them above the countless other IPAs doing precisely the same thing. But there are a few that transcend above merely "very good" and are truly "exceptional." This is one such beer. By going full-on mango, this beer really stands out in a crowd of IPAs. Kudos on another winner, Toppling Goliath.

Murky and oddly oxidized, though I was told the bottle was fresh. No bottle date unfortunately.
