This spectacularly golden, medium bodied IPA was crafted from a winning combination of Golden Promise malt and Nugget hops. Fall in love with the big hop aroma of our Golden Nugget as it mingles with fragrances of citrus and evergreen, followed by a floral sweetness. Tropical fruit flavors entice your taste buds before immediately captivating you with a bold, hop forward taste and a pleasant bitterness in the finish.

Sometimes the best things are discovered by accident. I went to Elkader and the OTHER bar was closed. Walked into a different bar that featured mostly Iowa beers.

I ordered a large. It came with a beautiful white head and a cloudy bright yellow body. Lacing was good thorughout the glass.

Nose was really fresh with floral, citrus and hops all the way.

Taste....Well.. In a nutshell, this is why we drink our beer fresh. This has the most beautiful fresh citrus blend of orange and lemon and the lemon rind bit you hard at first. There wasn't much spice but the hop profile was as good as it gets. I am told this is made with Golden Nugget hops. My mouth was loaded with hop flavor for some time after the visit. And it was a good aftertaste. A rare treat.

Mouthfeel was just heavy enough with good carbonation. I can't say enough about this beer. I truly think that for me personally this is the best IPA I have had. Just shows what fresh quality beer can do for you. I could only have one, I will go back. Next stop may be the brewery.

This is a phenomenal beer, nice malt to hop ratio if you get the chance to try it do. I had a nice review made up but once again this website screwed that up. Do yourself a favor and try any TG beers you can . I am thankful for my friends that have hooked me up on these. They are very earthy grainy well balanced beers. This one is a bit more assertive on the hop profile but not overly so. Its a nicely balanced beer and I think the reviews on this one will grow. This is a bit underrated!

Golden Nugget has a big grassy, herbal hop nose.
It pours brilliant straw gold under a 2” off-white foam cap that produces good lace.
The palate starts with rich malt sweetened with caramel, biscuit and sweet tropical fruit flavors that support rich, herbal hops that grow richer as the beer warms. There is some hop based astringency on the finish but it is balanced by malt sweetness.
The beer has medium body and carbonation.

This beer pours a hazy yellow-orange color. The head is a quarter inch in height, and recedes quickly into a small cap of lacing. The aroma is of mandarin oranges, passion fruit, grapefruit and flower bed. It is a strong, well crafted aroma. The taste runs along the same lines as the aroma. It is juicy with tons of citrus, and enough floral notes to keep the citrus from running riot. The bitterness is moderate for an IPA, but that works in this beet. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with lively carbonation, and a velvety texture. Overall, this is a great IPA. Hell, it's a great beer period. I will be searching this beer out again many times in the future.

Sharing this one with my bff Rick! has been in my fridge from the last Wisconsin run about a month and a half ago, a little nervous if it's kept its freshness in the fridge. this is the third brew I've had from these guys and the first to (Dorothy and zeelander) were GLORIOUS!
A: looks like a pretty delish ipa, nice golden yellowish color, lacking head though, about a half inch white head.
S: wow this has amazing aromas too it! very citrusy - grapefruit, orange, and some nice pineapple hints as well some piney hop aromas but not as much as your average ipa, more on the citrus side for aroma.
t: surprisingly everything in the aroma comes out in the flavor, that's rare in my opinion, there is also some good malt balance in the flavor along with faint notes of pepper.
m: good for me cuz I love low carbonation in my beers, this one is lacking for an ipa id say low/medium, but probably because it's been in my fridge for a month and a half.
o.a. great lacing on the glass as I drink, very balanced, wonderful aromas and flavors to back up that aroma. yum, try it!

From Growler. Pretty spendy- $16 for G-nug refill, $20 including new growler.

Pours a beautiful amber color with a gorgeous fluffy head.

Juicy citrus notes abound- loads of hops cover most of the malt backbone which is how it should be. Very inviting.

In the taste department- with IBU's in the mid 50s its clear that the truckloads of hops were added at the end of the boil. Huge hop notes without immeasurable bitterness. Malt profile does a good job of trying to balance everything out.

Overall- awesome, awesome IPA. This brew almost makes me wish I lived in Iowa. Almost. Worth seeking out- if more people were exposed to this beer it would be one of the power-player IPAs in the beer world.

Poured from 22 oz bomber into my SN IPA glass.

A: Golden straw with a hint of orange and a one finger fluffy head. Strong lacing

S:Pine and floral hops are the first aroma. Citrus is a background note.

T: Lemon and grapefruit rind with some sweeter fruits compete with the pine and floral flavors.

M: Light to medium body with good carbonation. Appropriate amount of bitterness and little if any alcohol burn.

O: A very enjoyable and drinkable IPA. You can taste how well it was made. An excellent overing from from Toppling Goliath.

On tap at The Root Note.

Golden color with egg white head and sticky lacing. Big citrus and floral fruit scents along with tropical fruit. Plump juicy hops with medium bitterness. Loads of citrus and tropical notes. A taste explosion. Medium body, a bit of prickly carbonation. Overall, love this beer. A top tier IPA for sure and I want more!

This is an extremely good IPA. It may fall short of PseudoSue, but it's still one of the best tasting IPAs brewed in the Midwest, in my opinion. It reminds me a bit of Sculpin IPA, which is not a comparison I make lightly.

Pouring from a growler filled at Casonova's in Hudson 104 hours ago (almost 4 and 1/2 days ago)

A=Hazy light gold color...nice fluffy white head....plenty of carbonation evident still..

S-Fresh citrus leaning towards lemons, but also oranges....combined with a light fresh floral aroma...

T-Another dandy...I get a lot of lemon drop like flavor from this...also some hints of tropical fruits...more papaya than mango...a bit of pineapple...I have a harder time describing the malt bill and have for most of the TG beers but it is what I think really makes these beers so good. Kind of an unobtrusive light sugar cookie maltiness...

M-Medium bodied...perfect weight and drinkablity for an IPA...not a pale ale but not a huge beer either....

O-Another top notch effort from this place. Quickly earning a spot in my top five breweries in the country if not higher...A slight tick below the others I have had from TG but still elite...

Had on tap at Alchemy cafe 7/13 but have also had a handful of bottles as well

Pours a semi-hazy golden orange color with about an inch of white head

Smells of citrus with only a mild pine or resin scent

Tastes of citrus fruits.. Grapefruit mango and a hint of pineapple.. Delicious

Overall.. This was one of my favorite beers before I had it on tap.. Now it jumped to my top 10.. Keeping in line with a very common theme TG has another beer that should be sought after.. Congrats

Growler filled at Casanova Liquor in Hudson, Wisconsin yesterday. Tasted 17 February 2014.

Pours clear pale golden orange. One finger of whitish head, good retention and delicate lacing. A solid column of bubbles rising up.

Smell is big juicy hops, backed well by a solid sweet malt base. Oranges and peaches with an acidic twinge. Delightful.

Taste is clean and crisp, with just the right amount of hop bite. It's the tiniest bit chalky, but that backs off quickly. Has the same clean-ness that I've found in other hoppy Toppling Goliath beers, almost like a saltine cracker pulling the badness out before you can taste it. And the citrusy hops come through far better than they do in most IPAs. Delicious.

Feel is outstanding. Medium-bodied, just the tiniest bit sticky. Carbonation is plush, like a pillow of slightly-prickly foam to dance across. Fantastic.

Another big hit from TG. I don't understand how they make all their beers so freaking good, but I feel lucky that I get to drink them. Not quite the best of their beers that I've had, but really really good. I would drink this any day over just about any IPA around. Reminds me of a higher-IBU sibling of PseudoSue. I bought one growler of this; wish I'd gotten half a dozen, and I'm very happy I have half of the one left for tomorrow.

On tap at Augusta in Oxford, IA; served in a shaker pint.

Brilliantly clear gold liquid with two fingers of lasting ivory merengue. Superior retention; dense sticky lacing.

Tropical fruit, citrus, passion fruit...immensely fresh hoppy aromatics. Words do not do it justice.

Palate closely follows the nose - suffused with fruity herbaceous hops, balanced by a touch of honey-like malt. Finishes dry yet fruity and minty. Moderately bitter throughout.

Thick, oily, creamy, perfectly carbonated...

Super-impressive, fresh, hop-forward, balanced, expertly crafted highly aromatic IPA. Rivals the best the West Coast has to offer with a slight increase in drinkability.

App. - Beautiful golden pour with a little bit of head. About a finger and a half to be precise. Much lacing down the sides of the glass

Smell - Piney with complex citrus. Orange, Grapefruit.. Reminds me of Christmas for some reason. Smells delish!

Taste - Taste doesn't quite follow the smell. A bit underwhelming but still phenomenal!

Mouth. - A bit lacking here. Could use a bit more carbonation for my taste. Still very smooth and very drinkable. Love!

Over. - Great brew from a Brewery that I've been inclined to expect greatness from. Very pleased with this IPA. Wonderful.

Poured from the bottle into a Spigelau IPA glass. Bottled Sept 1st 2015.

Basically what a perfect looking IPA can be. Deep supper clear body, with a flame like centre glow and crystal edges, fine streams of pinhead carbonation, and a glowing brass perfect tangerine orange body color, lighter and brighter towards the sides. Head is creamy, big and froths even bubbled to four fingers. Island puck top with creamy retention, hardly even budging with pill like sheet s of lacing and streams on the side. One of the most perfect looking IPAs I've seen. Total goldilocks looking brew.

Jesus, that aroma. Hints of soft weed to dank and fleshy fruit, almost grapefruit quality but something more exotic smelling. Cedar like wood tones with great sweet woody almost bbq'd and fat dipped smells, mixing with large amounts of black tea. Sweet woody tannic and inviting, highly memorable, and just a touch of sweet malt.

Palate manages to keep more of the same qualities but a more focused and less complicated hop presence. Tea like soft flavors of black and green, slightly bringing out some herbal sweetness. Finishes with tannic sweet character, and loads of black tea softness. Moderate carbonation, just a hint juicy but not quite even aching towards some wet body.

A real great take on some soft IPA qualities, wish the depth was a bit more here but really not many complaints.

Pours a slightly hazy, light orange with a thin white head. A very nice citrus mango hop smell, in which a little funk comes through. The citrus taste and bitter hop goes together very well with a nice malt balance. Some funk helps finish off this great APA. Toppling Goliath is simply one of the best.

Fresh growler from the TG Brewhouse. Pours light orange with a crisp white head. Great retaining head. I smell a mix of hops and citrus (mangoes). This has a smooth bitterness and has excellent hints of citrus fruits. Very well balanced. It also has a touch of creaminess to it. very enjoyable.

one of the more enjoyable and refreshing single ipa's I have experienced thus far. The nose is heavy on grapefruit and I wanna say magnolia, with the mouth having some grapefruit as well as mango. It was a nice change from the pine heavy west coast ipa's I have been exposed to. If you are into subtle ipa's that are not overly bitter/malty, this is one to seek out.

On tap into a nonic at Red's.

A: Pours a cloudy yellow-orange color with one finger of off-white head. Very good retention and lace.

S: A nose full of nice, fresh peaches. Very promising.

T: Interesting. Starts with bitter grapefruit and then goes quickly to the peaches from the smell, lingers, and then a fast swoop back to the bitter grapefruit. Oh, yeah, that's what beer is about.

M: Light, creamy and fizzy at the same time.

O: Outstanding, one of the best single IPA's I've had. In a league with Two Hearted in terms of quality, though a more bitter profile overall. Find it and enjoy.

Sweet tropical fruit and a certain floral grassy note.
Taste is loads of tropical fruit in the front and the perfect amount of bitterness left on the palate.

Very easy beer to drink!

Coffee Grounds - Eau Claire, WI

Golden Nugget is golden to say the least, pale and bright with perfect clarity. There's not a touch of haze in this beer. Your standard pour produces a billowing, fluffy, pure-as-the-driven-snow white head that leaves behind towers of lace with each drink. This is a great looking IPA!

The nose is loaded with fruit upront, soft spruce, and candied citrus peel in the back. Cantaloupe and tangerine dominate the nose with the soft spruce, gin-like botanicals, and candied citrus all following in their wake. Soft caramel is the maltiness present but Golden Nugget is a hop showcase. The more I smell the more the gin botanicals grab hold of this IPA. Exceptionally unique and interesting!

I didn't think it would happen but the flavor is as expressive as the aroma. Tangerine hits before the cantaloupe, those botanicals are intermingled throughout, candied citrus peel and soft spruce are more noticeable in the finish. The sheer amount of flavor profiles is staggering and they all work in harmony. Caramel malt eases in and out. Outstanding!

This is a supremely drinkable IPA. The bitterness is on the light side of moderate and the body the body is velvety. The bitterness grows with each successive pour but never beyond moderate. Absolutely delicious!

Golden Nugget is one of the best IPAs I've had in a while and I've been drinking a lot of them lately. This beer is expertly crafted with perfect balance and exceptional flavor. I can't get enough and the glutton in me wishes I'd have gotten another growler.

Pours a dark gold color with a one finger white head which has nice retention and lacing. Has a great aroma with citrus, pine, pineapple, and mango.

Has an outstanding combination of sweetness and bitterness with grapefruit, oranges, citrus zest, pine, pineapple, mango, and some pale malts.

Medium bodied with soft carbonation. Has a grapefruit and tropical fruit aftertaste. Well worth trying if you get the chance. I will definitely be buying more growlers of this.

Aptly named this pours a golden glowing liquid with a slight white head and some minimal lace. Smells of tangerines, florals, papaya and mango. Extremely inviting. Taste is almost exactly the same..tangerines and papaya, light floral elements, there is a light biscuit and honey malt presence. Juicy and moderately bitter this is pretty balanced. Velvety mouthfeel. Very, very easy to drink and delicious. Really enjoying this one.
