This spectacularly golden, medium bodied IPA was crafted from a winning combination of Golden Promise malt and Nugget hops.

Fall in love with the big hop aroma of our Golden Nugget as it mingles with fragrances of citrus and evergreen, followed by a floral sweetness. Tropical fruit flavors entice your taste buds before immediately captivating you with a bold, hop forward taste and a pleasant bitterness that lingers in the finish.

This brew was served on tap at Toppling Goliath Brewing Company in Decorah, Iowa. Poured into a tasting stange it showed a maize coloring, and held a solid two finger head of snowy, cakey whitish bubbles. Retention was high, with jutting lines of spidery lacing left around our glasses. No haze was noted, but thick chunks of sediment fell out with the dregs of the bottle after the fact. Carbonation appeared to be highly active and uniform throughout. The aroma hung heavy with juicy hop varietals spanning citric grapefruitiness to syrupy tropical nectars. Blending between the two were notes of hot tin, coconut and pineapple flesh, fusel booze, lemon flesh, plastic and light cloven phenols, garlic zest, mineral water, clean and powdery pale malts, chalked adjuncty corn, Runt candies, icy white sugars, browned apple dankness, and earthen mineral, honeydew melon, brass, and pine twig saps. When you met the flavoring, it nearly retained all of said juiciness, through a blend of bittering citric and herbal hops, cleaner grassy resins with warmth, mildly synthetic soured lemon cleaner, toasty pale maltiness, dusty and chalky ale yeastiness, heavy rubbers, peppery booze, lightly salted caramel, slate and mineral-laden concrete, bitter fresh sage, tannic lemon breakfast tea, dirty wet wheatiness, shoe polish, grapefruit rind, and soapy bitters. The hops breathing through the aftertaste were especially bittering, but curiously in the same forms of grasses, herbals, and citrics. The body was medium, but lightened and watered around the edges, while carbonation was high, and contributed plentifully towards skinning the first layer from the roof of your mouth. Cream, froth, slurp, and smack were all intact, and the mouth was left slicked and somewhat puckered. The abv was appropriate, and the beer disappeared rather quickly.

Overall, this is yet another example of a Toppling Goliath brew that heavily showcases a unique hop in a seemingly singular manner. The nugget hop, here, spans the spectrum of hops, hitting sweet, savory, and bittering all in one fell swoop. To deviate from their glimmering line of American pales, this gives more bitterness, giving it this altered, differing feel that we were starting to believe was uniform throughout all of their beers. We welcomed this change. Although they didn’t have any more of this sweet Golden Nugget to go home with us from the brewpub itself, we were intriguingly delighted when the bartender suggested we look across the street at the gas station. We were beyond thankful to find a few remaining bottles, and happily stocked up on this tasty dish. Weeks later, the bottles hold up to the tasting we had at the brewpub, keeping us happy that we’ve got one more bottle to enjoy.

Growler hand-delivered by the best mother-in-law on the planet. Golden yellow body, mostly clear, whipped meringue towering white head. Ample lacing cascading down the sides of the glass. Aromas of grass, hops, dank floral notes. Earthy hops with a touch of resinous pine. Smooth body with mild bitterness. Tasty.

Had this after a psuedosue and was good, but not as great. Pretty good overall IPA but not as good as something like Sculpin IMO.

Poured from 22 oz bomber into tulip glass.

A: Pours a crystal clear light golden yellow with one to two finger white head. Decent retention and leaves moderate sticky lacing.

S: Oranges, grapefruit, and lemon peel. Evergreen trees and fragrant floral hops.

T: Lots of citrus. Orange juice mixed with grapefruit. A light honey sweetness.

M: Medium body with good carbonation. Finish is a touch bitter, but clean and very refreshing.

O: An excellent IPA. So far I've enjoyed everything I have tried from TG. This is my first beer with nugget hops, and looks like I need to find more.

I love this beer....never had it on tap but have had several freshly bottled bombers and its pretty amazing. Super crisp, mouth full of citrus hop throughout and finishes extremely clean with no bitterness. Haven't had a bad TG beer yet and this is no exception.
