This spectacularly golden, medium bodied IPA was crafted from a winning combination of Golden Promise malt and Nugget hops. Fall in love with the big hop aroma of our Golden Nugget as it mingles with fragrances of citrus and evergreen, followed by a floral sweetness. Tropical fruit flavors entice your taste buds before immediately captivating you with a bold, hop forward taste and a pleasant bitterness in the finish.

Backlogged review from when I had no service/Wifi in Theodore Roosevelt National Park, ND. Full notes taken to my phone.

A- Semi hazy golden body with some apricot hues as light is shining through. A creamy white head rises up to one finger with decent retention. The small small ring remaining leaves webs and spots of lacing.

S- Juicy fruit hops are the emphasis with canteloupe melon and mango really coming to mind. Some citrus, tangerine and floral as well as dank mint. Pretty much clean besides light honey, caramel cracked grains.

T- Citrus comes to life a bit more as well as a slight bit of pine joining in with the juicy nectar feel. Mint, tangerine, apricot, melon and cantaloupe with grapefruit and oranges. Very clean almost impressively so for the ABV and the citrus builds with time.

MF- Body is of medium thickness with a lightly creamy-fizzy texture. Carbonation on the high side pushing the hop and the moderately high bitterness in the finish.

Juicy cantaloupe and melon at first but a zesty grapefruit citrus and some resinous pine comes out with time. Another great hoppy brew from TG. (1,112 characters)

Had on tap at Alchemy cafe 7/13 but have also had a handful of bottles as well

Pours a semi-hazy golden orange color with about an inch of white head

Smells of citrus with only a mild pine or resin scent

Tastes of citrus fruits.. Grapefruit mango and a hint of pineapple.. Delicious

Overall.. This was one of my favorite beers before I had it on tap.. Now it jumped to my top 10.. Keeping in line with a very common theme TG has another beer that should be sought after.. Congrats (484 characters)

Pours a dark gold color with a one finger white head which has nice retention and lacing. Has a great aroma with citrus, pine, pineapple, and mango.

Has an outstanding combination of sweetness and bitterness with grapefruit, oranges, citrus zest, pine, pineapple, mango, and some pale malts.

Medium bodied with soft carbonation. Has a grapefruit and tropical fruit aftertaste. Well worth trying if you get the chance. I will definitely be buying more growlers of this. (472 characters)

Thank you Slatetank for sharing this with me. Ive heard a lot about this brewery and im excited that this was my first of their offerings. It pours a hazy golden color with an off-white cap. Some spotty lace clings to the glass.

The aroma includes notes of mango and caramel malt with plenty of hoppiness that comes across like melon or cantaloupe. Some alcohol adds to that fruity feel as it warms up.

The taste is pulpy and pithy with that previously mentioned melon or cantaloupe yeasty green feel. Some caramel grain sweetness with grass and fruity alcohol. This is modestly bitter and unique but im not completely sure if I like it.

This is a medium bodied brew with a light amount of carbonation. It is very melon-like which I was not crazy about but overall it was decent and im glad I got a chance to try it. Thank you again Matt. (841 characters)

thanks to Weinando for the trade -enjoyed chilled from the bomber in a willybecker.

The color is deep golden clear with 2 fingers of white cream crowning with fine bead. The smell is strong with hop scents that are herbal with lots of floral nad slightly lemon rind in the nose with slight grass and pine odors. The feel is great moderately bitter with medium carbonation and some spice in the texture with slight tangy feel and gentle malt backing with semi-dry finish and very low alcohol/sweetness in general

The tast has a very intense nugget influence right off -of course with dank earthy and tangy citrus rind floral notes and slight astringent aspect in the background with the floral citrus being the most dominant in the taste with the golden promise adding a slight sweet quality to balance and moderate orange rind comes to mind with low astringency in the mostly dry finish. Overall excellent IPA in every sense -not as complex as some blended hop IPA's but Nugget holds its own well in this - thanks again Ryan! (1,030 characters)

Glass Used: Nonic

Appearance: Crisp golden color, with

Smell: A big blast of evergreen, floral and citrus fill the nose. A pleasant sweetness lingers in the nostrils after each whiff.

Taste: Lots of floral and herbal notes mingle with tropical citrus (pineapple-lime) followed by a mildly sweet malt foundation and ending with a pleasing astringent finish. The bittering hops linger around but does not overstays it's welcome.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied and clean; bittering tang coats the tongue, but not in a negative way.

Overall: I really enjoyed this offering from TG. I put it above the XHOP series but a wee bit below PseudoSue. Thanks Pintofbrown for this excellent offering from TG. (695 characters)

Golden Nugget presented itself with an appropriate golden color with a real ultra filtered cleanliness. The head was a mass of bright white foam.

The held a sweet perfumey like aroma of rose petal and pine. I also catch a Sweet Tarts candy vibe, along with caramel malts and honey.

The taste is clean like the feel with a real refreshing attitude. I get lots of honey and caramel malt with a pine, rose petal and floral hop flavor. The hops are not particularly citrusy or herbal but align more on that perfumey balance.

The feel is clean but offers a slight astringent tang that is in no way deterring. This drinks very crisp.

This is a wonderful and different take on the typical IPA. Sweet, sour and tangy all rolled into a perfumed package. (748 characters)

There's a section of the label for the month this was brewed but nothing is checked off. I trust this is fresh, regardless.

A: Clear amber pour with a tall, frothy and fizzy light tan head. Great head retention as it seems to last forever. Nice vertical streaks of light but fluffy lacing.

S: Ahhh. So nice. I'm honestly not sure what hops are used in this (I assume at least nugget based on the name). It has a nice citrusy, lightly spicy and ...melony aroma? It's not harsh, it's a strong but soft aroma. Very pleasant and inviting.

T: Hop flavors much bolder and sharper here. It's still hard for me to really put a label on it. There's lots of oranges up front with some decent sweet melons (canteloupe?) with a little spice. Lots of spicy pine and maybe even black pepper in the middle and into the finish. Really stands out. Light bready, crackery malt in the finish. Candied oranges linger in the aftertaste with hints of cracker and light spices. Quite dry to boot.

M: Medium bodied, smooth and very dry.

O: One hell of an IPA. One of the things that really stands out is the very smooth transitions between flavors. Lots of complexity but the flavors overlap and flow smoothly. Really drinkable as a result, despite the strength of the hops and the flavors in general. Quite dry, almost parching between sips (really makes you want to drink more). Not overly bitter but the hop flavors are very strong. Really nice IPA, well done TG. (1,449 characters)

A- Transparent light golden honey, pours 1 1/2 finger head white cloud in color with medium retention down to large lacing with legs. <--- run-on sentence

S- Traditional IPA smell going here; nothing that TG pales have been noted for lately; they kept it pretty traditional here. Mix of earthy malt:pine:hop profile.

T- Follows the nose here with malt:pine:hop profile. Very traditional here, which is kinda refreshing if you can spin it in a way that TG isn't all about pushing craft into new directions.

M- Kinda meh, watery, with just the right amount to just a bit high on carb. Thin.

O- TG went OG on this one. It was damn tasty though! (651 characters)

Toppling Goliath Golden Nugget

Poured from a 22 oz bottle into a shaker pint glass. Server chilled.

A) Golden amber with nice clarity. Finger of foamy white head. Nice retention and lacing.

S) Light pine, grass, slightly floral, citrus and ripe pineapple. Very nice aroma...

T) Follows the nose... Really nice balance. A pleasing tropical fruit, floral sweetness, transitions seamlessly to a slightly bitter finish.

M) A medium to lighter medium body, with perfect carbonation. Very smooth... Very nice mouthfeel with this one.

O) Another great offering from Toppling Goliath. I need to have there beer in my fridge as often as possible. (644 characters)

Pours a clear golden hue with tons on tiny bubbles rising to the top, half finger of white head that reduces to a permanent cap, splotchy lacing in the tulip.

Aroma is relatively subdued for such a fresh bottle: not much excitement in the nose with mostly malt with a touch of grass and citrus in the background. There is a sweetness in the aroma reminiscent of an iced cinnamon bun. It seems like this one could have benefitted from some dry hopping.

Taste is an improvement over the aroma, nice crisp citrus flavor as it warms albeit sort of a one note melody. Slightly piney that lingers nicely.

Mouthfeel is light medium and crisp. Brisk carbonation with a dry finish.

Not really understanding the World Class rating in this solid but one dimensional IPA, but it was enjoyable and worth a shot. Nugget isn't one of your sexier hops, but it is a time tested one that fits the bill when utilized properly. (909 characters)

Poured into an IPA glass. Appearance is a clear golden honey color, with tons and tons of bubbles rising quickly to the top. Produces a thick off-white head with lots of staying power.

Aroma is bigtime hops - orangey citrus, pine, slightly dank & earthy. Little bit of a sugar-cookie malt presence as well.

Taste follows the nose - citrusy hops up front with a nice sugar cookie malt presence on the back end. Aftertaste is a perfect mix of the two. Despite the notable malts, hops are still center-stage, and there is a moderate amount of bitterness. Still, really well-balanced for a hop-focused beer.

Mouthfeel is super creamy, with lots of carbonation - really nice!

Overall, really well-balanced, while still maintaining its identity as a big IPA. (756 characters)

Poured from a 22 oz. bottle into a Surly Darkness chalice.

Appearance: Pours a bright and clear golden orange with a moderate amount of bubbles. Big three finger white head with decent retention. Leaves a good amount of lacing.

Smell: A ripe, juicy, and earth hop dominated aroma with big hints of tropical fruit, grass, and pine. Citrus hops with good hints of orange peel, grapefruit, lemon, pineapple, mango, melon, and apricot. Big presence of grassy and floral hops. Dank hints of pine resin as well. Hops smell nicely bitter and juicy. Soft malt background with hints of cracker, grains, straw, and yeast. Slight hints of honey sweetness. Very hop forward. A pretty good IPA aroma.

Taste: Like the aroma, a very juicy and earthy hop forward taste with big notes of citrus, grass, and pine. Big upfront taste of earthy and floral hops with notes of grass and evergreen. Citrus hop notes of grapefruit, orange peel, lemon, melon, pineapple, mango, and apricot. Dank and spicy notes of pine resin. Soft backing presence of pale malt with notes of grains, cracker, straw, and yeast. Very hop forward and juicy with a nice bitterness. A very good IPA taste.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with a moderate amount of carbonation. Juicy, crisp, and somewhat oily. Finishes pretty dry.

Overall: Another great IPA from Toppling Goliath. Very good mix of juicy citrus, grassy, and piney flavors. (1,390 characters)

Pours clear golden with a patchy head. Trailing lace sticks.

The smell is of robust, pleasant nugget hops that give a citric fruity aroma.

The taste is absolutely delicious! Tropical/citric fruitiness from the nugget hops. The bitterness of the hops is balanced by a kiss of honey-like, biscuity, malt sweetness. The malt stays as a backbone allowing the hops to shine! Vibrant, long finish.

It is creamy, chewy - full-side of the spectrum without being too thick. Bitterness hangs on it a refreshingly dry way.

This brewery really knows how to showcase a hop. Great combination of hops and malts! A wonderful IPA! Very drinkable! (634 characters)

A: Pours clear golden with medium off-white head.

S: Citrus, melon, honey, grass, and slight alcohol.

T: Tangerine, floral, and some breadiness. There's the typical malt to balance. Light bitterness.

M: Med-light body, moderate carbonation. Clean and smooth.

O: A solid brew from TG. It's not going down as my favorite, but has that signature TG taste that is always so drinkable. (421 characters)

Bottle split at Proof Happy Hour bottle share. Pale straw color with an uneven bubbly white head. Sticky legs and the head had some damn good staying power. Aroma is muted floral and grassy hops, grassy grainy malt and some tropical citrus. Taste is lightly bitter, but the sweet grass grain and floral/citrus hops play well together. Light body and low carbonation despite the big head. (387 characters)

poured 22oz bottled into chalice. Bottled just over a week ago.

A - A clear light golden hue with a 2 finger white head. The retention is superb and it leaves a collar and lacing all over.

S - Aromas are sweet, tropical, some herbal, floral hops. Sweet buiscuit and honey make up the malt. It really is a hop forward aroma.

T - Ripe juicy tropical hops with herbal and leafy notes. The bitterness is contained by the sweet biscuit malts and honey. This blend really works well for my taste buds.

M - Lighter body, perfect carbonation, and a bitter sweet after taste.

O - Sensational IPA from TG. Very happy I was able to get a bottle the next day after it arrived. (671 characters)

A - Crystal clear body, very light golden color. Head is stiff, bone white. plenty of lacing

S - I swear that TG slips some citra into all their beers. I can definitely get some of the tropical fruits that their other beers have, although the nose tends to be bring more pine and citrus than others.

T - Pretty much follows the aroma, light tropical fruits, with a finish that brings a good deal of bitterness. Bitterness seems to be getting more aggressive as it progresses, which I seem to appreciate.

M - A little thin, but not in a way that is detrimental to the beer by any means.

O - Another pretty solid beer from TG, I look forward to try some of their beers that aren't IPAs (687 characters)

App. - Beautiful golden pour with a little bit of head. About a finger and a half to be precise. Much lacing down the sides of the glass

Smell - Piney with complex citrus. Orange, Grapefruit.. Reminds me of Christmas for some reason. Smells delish!

Taste - Taste doesn't quite follow the smell. A bit underwhelming but still phenomenal!

Mouth. - A bit lacking here. Could use a bit more carbonation for my taste. Still very smooth and very drinkable. Love!

Sharing this one with my bff Rick! has been in my fridge from the last Wisconsin run about a month and a half ago, a little nervous if it's kept its freshness in the fridge. this is the third brew I've had from these guys and the first to (Dorothy and zeelander) were GLORIOUS!
A: looks like a pretty delish ipa, nice golden yellowish color, lacking head though, about a half inch white head.
S: wow this has amazing aromas too it! very citrusy - grapefruit, orange, and some nice pineapple hints as well some piney hop aromas but not as much as your average ipa, more on the citrus side for aroma.
t: surprisingly everything in the aroma comes out in the flavor, that's rare in my opinion, there is also some good malt balance in the flavor along with faint notes of pepper.
m: good for me cuz I love low carbonation in my beers, this one is lacking for an ipa id say low/medium, but probably because it's been in my fridge for a month and a half.
o.a. great lacing on the glass as I drink, very balanced, wonderful aromas and flavors to back up that aroma. yum, try it! (1,071 characters)

Growler filled at Casanova Liquor in Hudson, Wisconsin yesterday. Tasted 17 February 2014.

Pours clear pale golden orange. One finger of whitish head, good retention and delicate lacing. A solid column of bubbles rising up.

Smell is big juicy hops, backed well by a solid sweet malt base. Oranges and peaches with an acidic twinge. Delightful.

Taste is clean and crisp, with just the right amount of hop bite. It's the tiniest bit chalky, but that backs off quickly. Has the same clean-ness that I've found in other hoppy Toppling Goliath beers, almost like a saltine cracker pulling the badness out before you can taste it. And the citrusy hops come through far better than they do in most IPAs. Delicious.

Feel is outstanding. Medium-bodied, just the tiniest bit sticky. Carbonation is plush, like a pillow of slightly-prickly foam to dance across. Fantastic.

Another big hit from TG. I don't understand how they make all their beers so freaking good, but I feel lucky that I get to drink them. Not quite the best of their beers that I've had, but really really good. I would drink this any day over just about any IPA around. Reminds me of a higher-IBU sibling of PseudoSue. I bought one growler of this; wish I'd gotten half a dozen, and I'm very happy I have half of the one left for tomorrow. (1,303 characters)

an expertly crafted beer here, and a massive thank you to claystation for bringing this back from his pilgrimage for me. i am truly blessed. a light bright golden pour to this, capped by a snow white frothy head that clings like spiderwebs to the sides of the glass and hardly fades a lick. if this is a single malt, single hop ipa, which it appears to be, its complexity is baffling to me. so much going on here. crisp clean malt, the big brother of pilsener malt really, golden and only a little sweet. the hops are insane, not dissimilar to some of the cool new zealand varietals, and honestly not way off from their nelson sauvin ipa. citrus yes, pine a little, but those descriptors are far to generic for how interesting and dynamic both the nose and taste are of this beer. it takes me away to summer, and it drinks real easy, only medium bodied and softly carbonated. the aftertaste is a little bitter, but its hard to call this an ipa in the traditional sense, this is so evolved and interesting, not to mention downright fantastically delicious. i will wait anxiously for the next one, and again, thanks to claystation for indulging my senses to such a fine degree. memorable stuff. (1,192 characters)

Thanks to mmulebarn for this one, shared with rudzud... but now re-reviewed thanks to mase32 (Reddit) again shared with rudzud.

Big fluffy head fades slowly with great lacing, mostly clear golden color.

Nose fresh hops, fruity bubblegum, some citrus, faint pine and fair resin, juicy apricot like fruit.

Taste brings some fruit flavours again, little apricot like stone fruit, little bitter pine and resin, a little heavy grassy earthy herbal tea like hop, pretty bitter though, faint malt, but fairly tasty. Finish fairly bitter, light dry, little pine as resin, mild fruit.

Mouth is med bod, soft, decent carb.

Overall much better than the last one I had, prob much fresher too. (687 characters)
