On tap at the Root Note in La Crosse, WI.
A - Straw/amber with a frothy 2-finger head. Great lacing, some sediment.
S - Beautiful grapefruit and mango backed by pale malt. The people sitting next to me at my table instantly commented on the scent when the glass was set down. This is a very aromatic ale.
T - More grapefruit, apricot, and lingering pine... the hops make a pronounced appearance but don't overwhelm, just add the bitterness of the grapefruit.
M - Very rich and creamy, but crisp, medium carbonation.
O - I love this APA! The floral hops, tropical flavor, and richness make it one of the best beers I've had, and another spot-on offering from Toppling Goliath. I'm very excited about this brewery.

I've loved Alpine's Hoppy Birthday for a while now and in my book, it was the Jordan of Pale Ales. Nothing was gonna come close ever. Finally got my hand on this beer and...damn.
A: Pours a clear and glowing golden color with a substantial one and a half finger bone white head. Pretty good retention and tons of sticky lace left with each sip. Looks incredible.
S: Tons and tons of tropical fruit. Loads of ripe mango, pineapple, jackfruit and apricot preserves. A hint of honey malt and grapefruit in the back. Smells absolutely fantastic. The most fruit I think I've ever smelled in a beer. Hoppy Birthday is definitely in trouble.
T: Yeah, it's over. This beer is ridiculous. Tons of mango and pineapple upfront with some insanely smooth malts blanketing everything. Pink grapefruit flesh, a flash of pine and resin and then a smooth finish with pine and mango. The finish lingers forever, but never leaves you with any kind of bitterness. Easily one of the best beers I've ever had.

A huge thank you to my mother-in-law and long time Iowan Sue for packing a 64 oz. growler in her suitcase and delivering it to me in D.C. Boom!
The beer is transparent and golden with a quarter inch of off-white head. Big aroma of pine trees, resin, citrus, grapefruit, melon. Lovely. Super smooth on the palate with an elegant silky bitter finish. Tropical fruit and pine resin. Really fresh and delicious. Super easy to drink with very little alcohol presence. Delicious.
