Pours hazed golden. A thin head stays and leaves lacing.

The smell is of grapefruit with a hint of pine/resin.

The taste is of bitter grapefruit with some pine. A biscuity sweetness rounds it out. Just a touch of warming alcohol comes through. It has a refreshingly dry, long finish.

There is a bit of astringency at the start, but it soon mellows to a smooth texture. I almost lowered the feel slightly, but the carbonation level and the appropriate fullness more than make up for the slight astringency of the first few sips.

This is a pleasant hoppy brew. It showcases the Columbus hops well, with just enough malt to keep it all together. Another well-done hop-forward beer from Toppling Goliath!

Poured from a 22 oz. bottle into a chalice. Bottle date is 05/27/15.

Appearance: Pours a hazy yellowish golden orange with a moderate amount of bubbles. About one finger of white head which settles into a thin patchy layer.

Smell: A dank, earthy, and juicy hop forward aroma with hints of citrus fruit and pine. Pine resin and grassy hops with some hints of cannabis. Citrus fruit hints of grapefruit, orange, lemon, pineapple, mango, and melon. Pale malt hints of cracker, biscuit, caramel, and yeast. A very solid hoppy aroma.

Taste: Like it smells, a dank, juicy, and earthy hop dominated taste with notes of pine, grass, and citrus. Earthy and herbal hops with some notes of pine resin and grass. Citrus fruit notes of orange, grapefruit, pineapple, melon, and lemon. Background pale malt notes of biscuit, cracker, caramel, and yeast. A really good hoppy taste.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with a moderate amount of carbonation. Juicy, chewy, and pretty drying on the finish.

Overall: Another very good single hop showcase from Toppling Goliath. Good dank hop flavors of herbs, pine, and citrus.

This was good, but much lighter than I wanted it to be. At 6%, it's missing that IPA kick I love. Good beer, but golden nugget is the IPA to have from TG(or King Sue).

Delicious IPAA that I would drink again and again and again

Appearance: Pours slightly hazy, the amber liquid capped by a couple of inches of foam; excellent stickage and plenty of lace

Smell: Dank and herbal, with some modest tropical fruit and grapefruit tones

Taste: Tropical fruit (papaya) and grapefruit pith, up front, with the herbal dankness building through the middle; building bitterness, without much fruit, and a dry finish

Mouthfeel: Medium body with moderate carbonation

Overall: Well, it showcases the Columbus hops nicely, but with all of the exciting new hop varieties I feel that time has passed the Columbus hop by; OK for a blend but not interesting enough to stand on its own

Thanks, knapers03, for the opportunity

Pours a hazy, even chunky orange with a white head that leaves behind plenty of lace.
Aroma is citrus and floral with a hint of toffee.
Grapefruit and piney resin hit my tongue first followed by a middle hit of sweet orange juice and a crisp, bitter, pithy finish. A nice underlying maltiness.
Mouthfeel is medium and a touch sticky.
Overall, not a pretty beer but I thought it was quite tasty.

I have tried all of the 'regular' beers from TG that have been available to me (over the last few months) with small roadtrips and I think all have rated above 4, a few well above that. Not this one. The beer was bottled on 5/27/15. I bought it less than a week later and have kept it in the fridge. Almost no sound when I popped the cap, very little head. All I could taste was bitter. I didn't get any of the fruit or citrus flavors others talk about. And I am a huge IPA fan, so bitter doesn't bother me, but that is about all this offered. Drinkable, but I'll take anything else I've tried from TG over this.

L: Pours hazy gold under a 1” cream colored foam collar that clings to the glass.
S: Herbal hops, melon, biscuit, and some grain.
T: Starts with biscuit and fruit with a bitter citrus rind finish. The bitterness is medium high, the malt medium, the yeast medium low, and hop flavors medium. It is fairly dry, especially on the finish. Lingering grapegruit rind bitterness with some quinine in it.
F: Very creamy, soft in the mouth, medium to medium light body, medium carbonation.
O: An easy to drink repeatable beer that is more dry and hoppy than big and fruity.

As I've come to expect from TG brews, this one drinks very smooth and I was not surprised to see the IBU at 45. Nice display of Columbus hops that lend a tasty flavor.

On tap at the Root Note in La Crosse.

A - Rich cider color. Very little head or lacing, but I've poured Toppling Goliath IPAs from a pitcher with beautiful 2-finger head, so I think the bartender could have built it more.

S - Citrus and pine with earthy undertones.

T - Bold grapefruit and a little bit of alfalfa. The bitterness lingers on the roof of your mouth on the finish. A bit sweet for an IPA.

M - Medium weight, but crisp and easy to drink. Medium carbonation.

O - Toppling Goliath has a strong grip on their IPAs, and 1492 is no exception. I've been following them as new taps are added in La Crosse and I'm excited to plan a trip to visit them soon!
