This hearty brown ale is named for its original brewer- our awesome Beerman Chad Opfer. Smoove Opferator started out as a very small experiment taproom-exclusive brown ale named “Brown Sugar.” Since then, it has undergone a name makeover and an expanded distribution to Iowa and Wisconsin. The taste is still the same as when we brewed the first small batch. Deep mahogany color with a hefty malt body. Robust flavors of roasted almonds, hints of chocolate with a slight bitterness in the finish. Oh so smoove!

Poured from a 22 oz. bottle into a chalice.

Appearance: Pours dark brown with hints of amber. Moderate amount of bubbles and a slight finger of tan head that settles into a thin creamy layer.

Smell: A toasty, nutty, and sweet malt forward aroma with hints of chocolate, coffee, and nuts. Upfront toasted malt with hints of chocolate, coffee, almond nuts, toast, biscuit, and yeast. Sweet hints of brown sugar and cream. Light hints of earthy hops. A very solid toasty Brown Ale aroma.

Taste: Like it smells, a nicely toasty, nutty, and sweet malt driven taste with notes of chocolate, coffee, and nuts. Toasted barley malt with upfront notes of chocolate, coffee, almond nuts, biscuit, toasted bread, and yeast. Sweet taste of brown sugar along with some cream. Subtle background notes of earthy hop bitterness. A very good nutty Brown Ale taste.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with a moderate amount of carbonation. Creamy, slick, and smooth.

Overall: A very good take on a Brown Ale. Good malt notes of chocolate and coffee with lots of nuts.

Some coffee, a lot of caramel. Rather thin, slightly watery and the balance is not there.

Very dark brown with almost crimson red highlights when you hold it up to the light. Lots of coffee notes, kind of grinded and roast kind, a little bit of the grounds of coffee too. Some nuttiness, and huge chocolate from the nose. Taste is that chocolate burst mingling with walnuts and quickly melds into the roasted coffee and hints of that almost dirty grind of the grounds. Very tasty. Mouthfeel is awesome for a brown. They tend to wash a little too weak for me, and this washes almost like a porter. Heavy but balanced for the style, yet doesn't feel too heavy on the palate and remains drinkable.

Really, really tasty brown, would definitely consume this again giving the opportunity.

Reviewed from notes.

Smoove has a small cap that died to nothing quickly, it has an opaque body colored like a loaf of rye bread.

There is a toasted, bready sweetness that pervades the nose, just a hint of honey. Also, there is a good amount of nuttiness as it begins to warm.

The flavors really take off, where the aromas did not. There is milk chocolate, more nuttiness, and a sour tang from a roasted coffee quality that pervades the finish. There is the honey again, and an almond sweetness that becomes even bigger as the beer warms. Really good brown!

This beer has a bigger medium body that is stuck somewhere between being creamy and slick.

The nose is soft, but the palate makes up for it. Some may not appreciate the tangy quality in the finish. Still, this is a solid and interesting brown ale.

A good brown ale for sure and delivers what it promises... I did find the malt complexity a bit underwhelming but it's well above the run-of-the-mill stuff that decorates the shelves. Kick of roast, lingering breadiness, hints of coffee and a medium body describe the beer for me. Personally, I like Bender better but this is very good too.

From a 64oz growler filled less than a day prior at the taproom.

A: A dark brown hue. Minimal head, and retention. Light does not penetrate it's brown, mahogany body. Slightly oily look.

S: Chocolate, bread, nuts, toasty. Alcohol comes through on the nose also.

T: A medium sweetness, followed by a light bitterness.

M: Full bodied for a brown ale. A true highlight of their interpretation. There is an oily, and slick feel on the palate. Medium carbonation, and a long dry finish.

Overall: This has become my favorite Brown Ale period. I do not see what they could have done to improve on this one... seriously. I say this, and I do not navigate toward Brown Ales normally. They have packed allot of good flavor into this 5.5 ABV beer. I highly recommend trying when you see it on tap. It's hard to disagree with.

Kind of blah by TG standards. Nothing is ever crave and want to try again. After reading the description I feel they need to amp up the flavors
