Inspiration for our newest Hop Patrol IPA comes from the House of Faun in Pompeii, Italy. At this site, some of the world’s most famous mosaics were preserved under layers of ash after the eruption of Mount Vesuvius. In this fashion, Pompeii IPA preserves and showcases the luxurious taste of the Mosaic hop. This single-hop IPA offers a floral aroma and a truly complex “mosaic” of taste: dark citrus and pineapple flavors, with deep earthy undertones and a persistent bitterness in the finish.

This beer pours a hop hazy red-orange color. The head is a solid half inch in height, and recedes slowly leaving nice lacing. The aroma is big. t was detectable upon pour. It is full of grapefruit, cantaloupe, musk melon, tangerine, very bright. The taste is similar to the aroma with a chalky-sweet tart candy thing that makes all of the fruit pop. There are also some nice dank melon flavors going on in the finish that contrast well with the bright fruits on the front end. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with a velvety texture, and restrained carbonation. Overall, this is one of the best pale ales I've ever tasted. Like most of Toppling Goliath's beers I want more.

Look: A lighter golden brown and hazy. Not different from the latest pS batches.

Smell: A little on the fruity and earthy side. Get a little of the blueberry I've heard others mention, but with a little bit of a Zeelander backdrop of that earthy (ever so slightly) oniony goodness.

Taste: Really impressed me here. Just the right amount of hop bite for me, albeit a little low compared to a traditional IPA. Starts a little sweet and fruity, and ends dry, and really lightly bitter.

Feel: Just a hair light in feel for my taste for a traditional IPA.

Overall: Didn't have much expectation, first time trying this one, and the first beer I've tried since the new guard has taken over. If this is a sign of beers to come from TG, they are in good hands. A really interesting tasting, hazy, easy drinking IPA. Kind of like a Mosaic pseudoSue, but (as a friend coined perfectly) "...like pseudoSue, but turned up to 11". I'm admittedly a huge TG fan/supporter, and had some concerns about this batch of beers, but this thing is world class. REALLY hoping Clark and the boys keep making this one.

This beer pours a slightly hazy pale amber with a medium head. The aromas of pine, grapefruit, guava, and pineapple hit me first. The taste is very fruits, leading with lighter tropical fruits, guava, passionfruit, and pineapple, and ending with a citrus and pine zing. The overall bitterness is low here, but there is not too much malt sweetness to fight, so that works well. The mouthfeel is not at all syrup, but also not dry and thin. This is an awesome beer, and seems to confirm my suspicion that I love mosaic hops.

L (4.25) - A nice orange-yellow color with a bit of haze. Makes sense for the beer.
S (4.5) - Fantastic hop aroma. Really get the floral notes. Very enticing.
T (5) - Tastes better than it smells! Definitely get the floral stuff, but fairly well balanced. Mine was quite fresh, but I can't think of any way for it to be better. No bitter or weird aftertastes either.
F (4.25) - Good carb level and quite drinkable.
O (4.75) - I was excited for this one, and it held true. This has set the bar quite high for any other beer out there. Sadly, I don't have any more left . . .

Poured from a bomber into a tulip glass.

L: Beautiful amber color, a little lighter in color than its nose suggests. Leaves a thick, spotty bit of lacing on the glass.

S: Tasty, strong mosaic hops quality: smells like honey and lemon.

T: Matches the Smell, but with more strength and a firm note of bitterness on the back end.

Feel: Light, crisp, and juicy. The flavor sits on the tongue for a long time.

O: One of the best IPAs I've tasted since I've taken an interest in the beer I drink. Fantastic stuff!

Golden color and hazy appearance with an off-white head and good retention. Big grapefruit and pine aroma. Taste follows with additional sweetness and citrus/tropical fruits (picking up some mango). Very nice body and balance. Medium pine bitterness that finishes clean. A great beer.

L: Golden, slightly cloudy, head disappears quickly.

S: Smell is fantastic. Pineapple, Orange, Mango...

T: Taste delivers on the tropical promise but adds some earthy undertones of dirt and mild hay. Minimal bitterness.

F: Well carbonated and somewhere between thin and medium mouthfeel.

O: Another massive victory for TG.

Bottle from John's Grocery in Iowa City, IA. This store is a must stop if you're in the area.

Hazy orange body with an inch of white head. Oh the aroma...what a showcase for the lovely Mosaic hops. Teeming with tropical fruit and citrus. Delightful palate. Mango, orange, juicy melon. Smooth and tangy. Outstanding.

This is one of the best IPAs I've had from TG. A really nice floral aroma with a clean finish. This beer reminds me a lot of a super fresh Jai Alai which is always a good thing. The fact that this was a shelf beer is just awesome!

Pours a golden orange color with a finger of white head that stuck around forever. The great retention tells me this is a well-made brew.

Aroma is all Mosaic as expected. Mangos, pineapples, guava, grapefruit, melon, huge dankness, and big amount of sugary sweetness. Juicy, dank aroma.

Taste follows the nose perfectly. Mosaic hop juice. Get a ton of tropical fruit (mango, pineapples, guava), as well as grapefruit pulp, melon, and huge amounts of herbaceous dankness. A big sugary sweetness (not cloying at all) is there in the front and mid-palate to make the beer extremely juicy. Dries out a little into the finish and has a very subtle grapefruit and resin bitterness to go with the juicy, fruity, dank hops.

Medium body. Smooth, creamy, and clean. Drinks like a pale ale. Can't really get better than this for the style imo.

This brewery is always a treat to have and this one is no different. Love Mosaic hops and this is one of the better single-hopped ones I've had. Juicy and complex.

Pours a light red/amber look with residual pieces of grain or hop (?) in the beer floating around. Nice head retention forms and stays.
Smell is pungent tropical juice, the mosaic hops just kill it in this department when done right. just awesome aromas - dank pineapple/orange. definitely my jam
Tastes like heaven, again lots of tropical juiciness - plenty of dank qualities and then at the end of the sip a lot of organic, grass/resin undertones this is excellent.
Mouthfeel is perfect, its not overly bitter but still has a perfect bite to it, the beer can just sit and rest on the tongue without any complaints from me. I think the lower IBUs really compliment the flavors here, awesome juicy feel.
Overall a beautiful beer, I need more!

L: Pours a slightly hazy yellow with a touch of orang. A night white foamy head on the top.
A: the nose of the mosaic hops comes through with all the tropical smells.
T: the taste is a mixture of tropical fruits with mango and pineapple flavors coming to front.
F: The mouth feel is pleasant and smooth.
O: All in all I would say this is my favorite offering from TG at this point. A great IPA.

I had a sampler today at the TG Brewhouse and also a bomber tonight. This pours a fantastic dark gold and the aroma is what captures your attention! The smell is fantastic. Tropical fruit bomb! Very drinkable, so smooth with hints of cream, orange, pineapple and little/to no bitterness. This is another fantastic beer from TG. I had a very fresh versions of this. (Within 1 week). I wish TG products were more readily available for more people to consume.

Picked up at a Hy Vee grocery store in Iowa City. The bottle date is smudged and illegible, but the clerk said it was delivered that day. No abv. is printed on the label.

Look- Pours a dark gold with a generous finger of frothy white foam.

Smell- Heavy passion fruit with pineapple and a hint of rubber in the back.

Taste- Passion fruit, pineapple, and a hint of guava. There is a bit of butyl in the finish.

Feel- Thin but juicy.

Overall- A very fresh tropical Mosaic hop bomb! Wonderful tropical juice aroma and flavor. I'm so glad I was lucky enough to find some.

Had this beer on draft and the TG Taproom and in bomber at home.
L: This beer pours a beautiful tangerine color, with a quick dissipating head with good lacing.
S: Smell is a nice balance of pine, grapefruit, and citrus.
T: Mosaic hops really shine through, nice balance. Citrus, tropical flavors up front with a piney aftertaste.
F: Good carbonation and a nice smooth, creamy feel.
O: Another great beer by the guys at TG. Very good both on draft and bomber!

Poured from a 22 oz. bottle into a chalice.

Appearance: Pours a bright golden orange with a moderate amount of bubbles. Solid finger of white head which settles into a thin patchy layer.

Smell: A juicy, earthy, and floral hop forward aroma with a scent of citrus, grass, and pine. Upfront scent of citrus fruit with hints of orange peel, grapefruit, pineapple, mango, tangerine, lemon, and melon. Dank herbal hints of pine resin along with some floral and grassy hop hints. Light malt hints of caramel, cracker, and yeast. A really good hoppy aroma.

Taste: Like the nose previews, a juicy amd earthy hop dominated taste with big mosaic notes of citrus, grass, and pine. Big upfront tropical citrus presence with notes of grapefruit, mango, orange peel, pineapple, tangerine, melon, and lemon. Big notes of floral and earthy hops with some grass and pine resin. Soft background malt notes of cracker, sweet caramel, and yeast. A very good taste.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with a moderate amount of carbonation. Juicy and fairly oily with a drying finish.

Overall: Another great single hop brew from Toppling Goliath. Big juicy and earthy hop punch with a moderate body.

Sampled pour from a 22 oz bottle. Pours a bright brassy orange with a huge amount of hop haze. Can barely see the shadow of my hand behind the glass. A solid finger of dense fluffy head. Nose is outstanding - tropical fruit including mango, pineapple and guava.'Reminds me of the POG juice Hawaiian Airlines serves on flights. Taste is dominated by the fruit but is somewhat balanced with new mown grass and a finishing hoppy bitterness. Mouthfeel is sparkly and clean - effervescent. Fantastic beer that I enjoy more than the much heralded Sue from TG.

This was a surprise beer from a head brewer friend. I was amazed to find out it was just and mosaic IPA. The best way for me to describe this beer is if zombie dust had a older more mature brother single hop IPA this is that!

First of all, the label on this beer is a masterpiece. Beautiful.

The beer is amazing as well.

Golden orange color. Off white head with lace. Nice retention.

Flavor profile: Very tropical and juicy. Pineapple, papaya, and mango. Earthy hops. Very green and citrusy.

Mouthfeel: A nice amount of bitterness, but it ends clean. Some grapefruit citrus and hop resiny flavor sticks around in the finish.

A well done ipa. Very enjoyable and definitely up there with the best of them.

Thanks to irish-hawkeye (Reddit) for this one. Shared with rudzud.

Pours a great fluffy creamy almost 2 finger head that fades slowly with nice soapy lacing, hazy orange juice color.

Nose brings tons of dank citrus hops, a simcoe like dank musty grapefruit with citrus resin and pith, dank tropical fruits with papaya, little grassy oily earthy, citrus and kiwi like hops, even a little melon rind, nice pith.

Taste brings a malty sweet start, toasted soft reddish malts but dry. Then hops, a kiwi like tropical fruit mild earthy grassy note, with more dank fruits, tropical mostly, papaya, hint passion fruit, resinous notes, little grapefruit pith again, touch spicy too. Nice dank tropical fruits mostly, linger for a while, nice dank resin on the back end with lingering musty tropical fruits, little bitter earthy spicy hops, big lingering spicy rind, hint of baking spices too.

Mouth is med bod, decent softness, nice carb.

Overall very nice, great hop profile, nice bitterness, dank resin and musty tropical fruits with nice pith and mild citrus, etc.

12 days old when consumed.

Look- great hazy golden ale with thick 1 finger head. Sunburst through fog.

Smell- slightly murky aroma, fresh, yeasty, soupy hops.

Taste- this is where Pompeii really erupts. There is no part of this beer that isn't affected by the hops- begins sharp with bitterness, quickly mellows with some cantaloupe, and finishes with a touch of honey and pineapple.

Feel- appropriately carbonated, slightly thick for a single IPA.

Overall- One of my favorite TG beers. Truly beautiful and a special bottle. I was lucky enough to be at a shop with no limit and I am kicking myself for only picking up 2.

Yields a cloudy, sun-yellow color with a fluffy, huge head.

Offers up a fantastic hops diversity, producing citrus peel, riper blood orange, fresh cut grass, as well as papaya which builds a well working bridge, inviting sweeter malts. Tart citrus, together with grass stand out the most, which leads to a refreshing, intriguing hop forward nose.

Has a medium fitting carbonation, which is spot on, as the taste unload lots of different, tied together flavors.

Tastes of mineralic infused dough white bread, immediately coated up by stronger growing lemon zest and dank grass. The malts then get a tad sweeter, leading to orange and ripe papaya, leaving enough space on the palate for the beers dankness. Throughout the taste is focused on the diverse hops profile, while they range from grassy to fruity, ending with a pleasant, illustrating bitterness.

Its pleasant, soft mouthfeel unleashes a thoughtful, well composed hop carpet which is indeed very versatile, while convincing, as for its focused hoppiness. Doesn't push it too far, remains easy drinkable and very enjoyable.
