33 cl Bottle poured into my lost abbey stemware glass
Very dark brown pretty much black colour. Golden bubbly head, fades quite quickly. Aroma is roasty, bit of coffee, and lots of hoppy citrus fruitiness. Grapefruit sharpness. Taste is initially hoppy bitter, then goes to roasty and chocolatey malt, and finishes a slow fade of coffee and grapefruit bitterness. Very nice and smooth in the mouth. Bit further down more fruit, orange and some tropical hints. Really nice.

Again I want to thank Tendermorsel for giving me the heads up on this brewery prior to my recent trip to London. Got to sample one of the APA’s, this new Black Rye IPA and then their Citra IPA. Had this one at The Rake near the Borough Market.
Fairly thick mocha colored head forms and stays. The color is shiny and dark with no light getting through. A decent amount of thick lace clings.
Chocolate aroma mixed with the pine scent from hops.
Flavor is a bit more mocha with coffee notes melding with the chocolate. This quickly gives way to more pine hop and a subtle spice from the rye. The rye mostly adds depth and is not in your face. Not 100% sure I would have picked it up without knowing. Decent balance between the two major elements here.
Medium body, almost oily on the tongue, a prickle of carbonation.
Nice Black IPA. The addition of the Rye adds a subtle complexity that works.

Poured from a 330 ml bottle (purchased at the brewery) into a snifter glass to a very dark brown/bordering black colouration with a thick-ish off-white head which gives way after a few minutes.
Pine, roasted malts and a little caramel/toffee hit you on the nose.
On the palate I quickly picked up on the 'rye' backbone of this IPA although it does not dominate! At the business end I was getting a hop hit with some citrus notes but allied to roasted malts, liquorice and a litle coffee.
Mouthfeel was spot on, medium body and moderate carbonation.
Overall another very good IPA from the Kernel, well balanced and a quite a complex series of flavours which all hold up well together!
