one of the strangest beers out there, the most curious side of spontaneous fermentation, brutally expensive at 21 bucks for a small bottle, but so are many of the italians, especially sour types. dead flat in terms of carbonation, but the dark pink liquid entices me. still waiting for a beer wine hybrid to really pop off, this one is certainly strange, with pieces of grape skins at the bottom of the bottle, raw. the nose is not super tart, certainly not like i am used to in sour beer. this has more of a fruity tartness, like cranberries pucker. i don't get grape specifically. the taste is so strange. fruity on the front end, purple grape and cranberry, maybe tart cherry, but the finish tastes just like cheerios cereal, grainy or bready, plain, and long lasting, trumping the fruit and any acidity or sourness. so strange. this feels like a meal. i miss the carbonation, and would regard this a bit higher if it had some, but i love how different this is, how it challenges my palate, and how the wild side of this is so unconventional. its almost vinegar without the acid, not the bretty or lacto characters we are accustomed to. i appreciate this for what it is, am glad i had it, but will never pay such a price for it again. i encourage the sour beer geek to try it though, because its just a totally different direction on the fermentation side. very cool.

Pours a one finger white head that vanishes immediately and leaves no lace. Brown/red murky color. Fizzy carbonation and medium bodied. Sour grape nose and flavor is sour grape with hints of sweetness, almost a wine. Can we call this a beer if there is no yeast in it?? There are numerous sour ales that are far cheaper, not worth trying at $19.99 for a 375ml bottle from Julio's Liquors Marlboro, MA. Brewed 2010.
