Visited here on 2011-07-08 with my buddy, Fred.
This is a well-located pub on 2nd street in the hub of activity, near the State Museum, good restaurants and the bridge to City Island.
There's a long bar down the left side as you walk in with a long row of taps. There was a printed beer menu readily available.
The place has some charm and has no smoking.
Service was good. Didn't try the food.
They do Facebook updates but I've not yet seen a website with frequent on-tap updates. This is needed.

The artist formerly known as "Shady's downtown," is now Anthony's Micro Pub. I have been in here a few times since the change. Time to update my review.
Atmosphere can be all over the place. I have been in when I am the only person, and other times when they have been packed two deep. Happy hour is very busy thanks to the half price beers and free pizza. I suggest going then.
Quality is up and down. Food is good quality pizza shop food and they have some great beers to offer but they also have a few too many old IPA's for my tastes. Couple month old flower pour should be taken off not sold to unsuspecting customers. Prices are all over as well. Some beers are priced well, others too high. Food prices are pretty good tho.
Service is good. The bartenders are nice and attentive but some of their explanations for beers are just plain hilarious. No big deal if you don't know the answer to their question, just say so...
Selection is pretty damn good, especially for the downtown area, I have never had a problem finding beers to drink. They sport a ton of taps with plenty of good beers to try. They definitely have far too many old IPA's and empty taps for my liking. They could get rid of about 20 taps and be much better off.
Food is mostly just pizza shop grub. Pizza's, Stromboli's, Sub's and Wings make up most of the items people seem to get. I have had the pizza plenty of times. It has always been pretty good but not earth shattering.
Overall a fun place to stop downtown, especially for that Half Price Happy Hour of theirs.

Near the northern end of Restaurant Row.
Atmosphere: A few patio tables, umbrellas included, provide cover from the sun. Inside, a bar on the left side, seating on the right and a pizza oven in back. A little dark. The tap offerings line the bar, as do plenty of bottles of the hooch.
Quality: Not much doing on a Sunday afternoon. That resulted in a relaxed atmosphere, especially on the part of the bartender. Nothing to serious though.
Service: Based on my experience, order by name and not number. Although, to be fair, that may not hold true all the time. Plenty of regulars, the bartender got a little salty...
Selection: Ample quantity and quality. 80 plus tap lines advertised but there are at least an eighth of the list empty. Plenty to choose from, Weyerbacher Victory, Troegs, Widmer, Ballast Point, Yuengling, Magic Hat and many more. There were very few top notch offerings but more than enough to choose from the middle tier of craft.
Food: I didn't order anything but the pizza oven was there. Not sure what else there is.

I've stopped by Anthony's a few times now and got a good enough feel for the place to write a proper review. You enter the establishment and on the left are some coolers with bottles to go. I never spend much time looking though as it is seemingly always half empty and what is stocked primarily consists of macros. The bar runs most of the length of the place with some tables for 2-4 on the opposing wall. It is a long, slender establishment with more open seating arrangement towards the back.
As of my last visit, they were advertising 80 draft offerings. That is all well and good except that I have never seen all of the lines pouring. There is always a significant amount of lines dry. Perhaps this is just their max capacity. During my most recent visit about 50-60 of the 80 were available. I can't complain about the selection. Even though they don't offer as much as they advertise, they do have a solid selection of local craft offerings. Always see offerings from Troegs, Weyerbacher, Erie, Victory, Sly Fox, Stoudts, etc. Ithaca, DFH and some other regionals also are consistently available. Hard cider is also frequently available in upwards of ~5 or so draft offerings if that is your thing.
Service is variable depending on time and how busy they are. The bartenders attempt to make small talk and discuss the brews with you and make suggestions. It's thoughtful and considerate but sometimes a bit off putting when the bartender makes off the wall recommendations. All in all it's an average experience but you will constantly have a full glass of sitting at the bar.
If you have never checked this place out, it is worth seeing at least once. Especially between the hours of 4-6 when drafts are half off. It's very reasonable and they do a good job serving in the appropriate glassware. They have done typical bar food available with a bit more focus on pizza. That isn't something I have partook in yet but maybe a future visit I will give it a try,

Have been visiting Anthony's frequently for happy hour on Fridays for quite some time.
A - atmosphere is cozy nice little place on 2nd street in downtown Harrisburg. There is none of the rif-raf that you find in other places downtown. Nice long bar and few table to sit at.
Q - happy hours is one of the best deals in town. 4pm-6pm everyday with 1/2 of beer...Fridays is a plus due to the free pizza..prices seem reasonable but have seen $11 for Dogfish Hellhound
S - only downfall is there is one bar tender on duty during happy hour....if busy can take a while to get waited on
Sel - 72 taps all micro brews, mostly session beers but 4 to 5 rarities throw in there

towards the northern end of downtown second st, Harrisburg. parking can be an issue in Harrisburg but state street is close and you don't have to pay for meters after 4. (right when anthony's amazing happy hour starts). you can also park in the garage directly across from anthony's on second street but that can get pricey depending how long you're there for.
atmosphere is decent. small and long with bar that covers the entire left side of the joint with about probably close to 40 or 50 taps. cozy towards the back. they have a few tables. Its not very big though so I'm guessing it must get uncomfortably packed around 10-11PM when the weekend downtown Harrisburg crowd usually comes out. (I've never been there that late however).
quality of the beers is always good and fresh. they make free pizzas with various toppings between 4 and 6pm on Fridays to go along with their happy hour (where all drafts are half-priced). same happy hour goes on from Monday to Thursday (but no pizza those days). the pizza ain't bad.... it's free right? nothing to knock your socks off though.
as far as service goes (during the happy hour at least), they have 1 freaking bartender to cover the entire place... so you have to wait a while for beers sometimes.... I guess that's how they get away with selling craft beers so ridiculously cheaply. they also need to print more menus and update them a little better (Beer menus that is)... the place has like what seems to be like 3-4 paper menus crumbled up with stains on them and all different things crossed out and written-into small little spaces when drafts are updated and like 100 people need to fight for them.
the place really does have the best craft brew happy hour you'll find but I just think a place with such a serious draft list should have a chalkboard or more frequent and plentiful print-outs or some other system to let people know what's on tap... I think it would be a little more respectable.
as far as selection goes... they have 40 or 50 taps so I'll give 'em a good grade for that. I can't really review food because all i've had was the free happy hour pizza.... which ain't bad and I think it's really nice of them to provide to everyone who comes in.
overall a great value.... I've gone in there with another person and paid like $20 for 6 beers split between the two of us for happy hour... so I'm guessing the beer prices aren't bad the rest of the times either (when they are all full price).
certainly the best variety and the least obnoxious place on second street. get in if you're ever in the area.

Used to go to this location regularly when it was "Shady's Downtown" well whatever happened between the former partnership did something to the place. I've been back twice at two completely different times since the name and ownership change up. The most recent time was a disaster. A few friends decided to get a beer for lunch with a couple sandwiches. I ordered a Dale's Pale Ale for my friend and I. The bartender hands me something that tastes nothing like and is too light in color to be Dales Pale Ale. I ask her if she pulled off the correct tap (they have 60 now I think), she says very confidently that she did pull off the Dales handle. So I asked if there's a possibility it blew last night and someone swapped the keg with out replacing the tap handle. Her response was "no I do the kegs myself". I then say (still trying to get the right beer nicely), "this isn't Dale's it has no hops whatsoever" to which the bartender replies "Dale's isn't real hoppy anyway". A half hour goes by after ordering food before we decided to ask "where is our food". Then all of a sudden there's a mad dash and the food shows up in like 10 minutes. Someone got a sandwich burnt to a beautiful black crisp. Up until we left we were the only customers there ordering and waiting for food. I don't know what was going on in the kitchen but I do not see a return visit any time soon.

A great little joint with around 50 taps pouring an impressive, constantly changing selection of craft beers.
Parking downtown can be a bitch. Downtown Harrisburg's faux French Quarter party atmosphere, on weekend nights especially, is not for the mature crowd.
But take away location hassles and you have a fine little bar with decent, not great, food.
The place is mostly a long narrow room with a bar running almost the entire left side as you enter. There are a few takeout coolers up front, but they are never close to full and usually what they do contain is mass market macros.
This is not a place for takeout. When they do get something interesting in bottles, it's usually bombers which are sold at prices you'd expect at the bar for consumption there, but way higher than you'd pay at places that cater to carry-out (eg: $18 for a bottle of Life and Limb that was >$8 at a package store in NJ a few days later).
But if you are looking for a wide selection of draft beers, this is the place. For example, best I can tell, this was the only place local to have Life and Limb. Ditto for the Stone-Troegs Chocolate Cherry Stout collaboration (other places might have had them, but no place I know of).
Also worth mentioning they seem to go through their beer pretty fast. I have never had a skunky, stale tasting draft there.
The food is OK. Not great. Average pizza and average subs at reasonable prices. You'd be wise to dine down the street and just come here for the beer if you want a full meal.
Service is great, but I should add an asterisks to say the service you get from the lone bartender is as good as you can ask from a single server. They could use a second bartender, or a waitress, on busy evenings.

Or the artist formerly known as, as it already is not. A brief reprieve from points west, now working my way back east across a few days instead of in one fell swoop. Had Shady's in mind anyway, but thought I'd also better be sure I could easily navigate my way to Troegs for a splinter release Thursday the next morning. So, I did, and then upped the main drag 2nd Street, with Shady's spotted amongst the bars and night life Harrisburg. Now if the guy with the rickshaw will kindly get the fuck out of my way so I may enter...
Deep narrow place with an "L" shaped marble topped bar with a wood lip and tile piece foot rest off to the left. Seating for just shy of a dozen and a half. Barback is a brick face wall with a long horizontal sheet mirror, and TV's mounted above to each side. Slight counter space below with 3 copper bar towers holding a dozen taps each, do the math. A few specialty 750's displayed between towers (DFH Bitches Brew & Theobrama, Sierra Anniversary, Bruery Autumn something), and glassware of all sizes and shapes below the towers and on one end. Booze shelved forward of the taps on the wall below a neon Hoe sign and above a Jager machine (product placement, people).
I think the walls are an olive over some kind of pieced pieces. Sports prints running the length with drop baby hairdryer lamps, and brewery mirrors and placards on the wall behind me. Lino tile floors, and a drop ceiling with sunken spots & spinnys. Flats in all corners and more, to view from pretty much anywhere.
4 roundy bar tables in the front corner that I think they just reeled in from outside, and 4 hightops hugging the wall behind me, with a juke forward of that. A stand alone Phil's Golf Game (Live 2010) with a detached wall mounted flat screen over my shoulder, and then to the rear, 4 angled square tables to one side, and 3 table adjacent across from them feeding back to a kitcheny area of sorts. I suspect there is a pizza oven there. You know, this used to be something of an Italian joint.
PA play (Brew Works Hops'olutely Triple IPA, Sly Fox Pikeland Pils, Bavarian Barbarian 2x4 IPA, Lancaster Strawberry Wheat, Yuengling), regionals (Southern Tier Mokah, Ommegang, Brooklyn Brown Ale, Blue Point Toasted Lager, DogFishHead Theobroma & Punkin Ale, Flying Dog Raging Bitch Belgian IPA, Sea Dog Blue Paw, Magic Hat Wacko), regionals if you lived somewhere else (Avery Seventeen, Great Divide 16th Anniversary wood aged Double IPA, Dark Horse Perkulator Coffee Dopplebock, Oskar Blues Gubna Imperial IPA & Dales Pale Ale, Terrapin Big Hoppy Monster, Fort Collins Chocolate Stout, Boulder Mojo IPA, Sierra Nevada Tumbler, Coronado Islander IPA, Stone RIS, Anderson Valley Hop Ottin' IPA, Lost Abbey Red Barn), imports (Affligem Dubbel, La Chouffe, Hoegaarden, Lindemans Framboise, Paulaner Oktoberfest Marzen, Guinness), a cider (Original Sin), and a macro (Miller Lite), to round out the collection. I tried a variety of things, some IPA's I've never had and some hot or not big beers, and then settled up on the Sierra Nevada Tumbler & Coronado Islander IPA. Big showing of big beer selections this night, just don't know how well they're moving 'em. Still, what I had was clean, no problems there.
They've also got a trio of double wide coolers just inside the door to the left. One with craft sixes (Bells Oberon, Two Hearted & Octoberfest, Sly Fox, Weyerbacher, Victory, Blue Point, Atlantic, Stone, Flying Dog, Brooklyn), the center one with macros, and the end one filled with "ghetto juice", as Shannon calls it, and she's right. The bottled "goods" here seem to be more for the "to go" than on site consumption.
A different dynamic than the other Shady's location, most notably the lack of smoking here, thank you thank you thank you. And the food thing is different in a less fried things kind of way. And now the music has stopped. It's a Wednesday night, just after midnight (I think they technically call this Thursday morning), and I'm the only person here (I'm my own great vibe). Yes, what scene there is here is definitely less neighborhood bar and more of the strip doings.

It was still Shady McGrady's (Downtown) on the occasion of my visit, so a new picture seems to be required.
A rare last-minute excursion had brought me to our capitol city to see Hershey's Coco the Bear along with the AHL's Calder Cup trophy at Strawberry Square. Being in the area and having an upcoming deadline for my Ale Street News byline became the impetus for my visit.
An awning hung over the entry with a windowfront to the right of the doorway, illuminated by an eclectic mix of neon signs. Entering, I was immediately struck by three (3) two-door coolers to the left of the doorway and even more so by the CANs of Sly Fox O'fest. I had just shipped a trade of Sly Foxes the day before, dang it!
In the midst of my reverie, I heard my name being called out. I should be used to it by now, given my infamy along with my name being machine-embroidered on just about every shirt, jersey and jacket that I own. No matter what, though, if I looked over and saw John Law, I was going to beat feet! No, instead it was Jodi Andrews, of ABC fame. Phew. She had moved over here and was quick to put me onto some of the new digs' secrets.
Along the left side of the space, past the coolers, was the marble-topped inverted-"L" shaped bar running about 1/3 of the length of the room. The back bar began with two shelves of liquor above the cash register, but hard liquor was definitely NOT the focus here. What was the focus was the bank of forty-eight (48) taps, all rotating (!), most fed from sixtels (!!). The taps had a mirror behind them with flanking HDTVs. Continuing aft, right-facing, were four (4) standard tables followed by the pizza oven and the entry to the kitchen. On the left-facing side, past the bar, were two (2) round high tables followed by a satellite jukebox, four (4) square high tables, a flat-screen Golden Tee game (!), four (4) standard tables, and the lavs.
Beer: Forty-seven (47) CO2 taps and one (1) N2 tap (Guinness) with Guinness, Yuengling Lager and Miller Lite as the only non-rotating taps. Fresh? Brewery fresh!
Service: Jodi Andrews on the stick and then-owner Scott Thomas in a Captain's chair, overseeing the goings-on?!? What do you think my service was like?
Ambiance: Low-key as they were still trying to get established.
