32 oz growler pour of this stuff. Thanks to 99 bottles for having it available to try!
A - Pours a hazy, burnt orange hue, with a nice, thick off-white head. Moderate head retention, and excellent lacing that leaves rings around the glass.
S - Smell is of orange peel, grapefruit, and other candied citrus fruits, with a hint of caramel malt and earthiness, as well as aggressive, piney hop scents.
T - Taste starts with a blend of candied grapefruit and orange flavors over a somewhat bready malt background, and finishes with a powerful and assertive hop bite! The simcoe hops lend this one a different, more citrusy, and dark, woody/earthy hop profile than the more common cascade-hop flavors found in many PNW IPA's. The 99 IBUs certainly make their presence known, as this beer doesn't have the big malt profile of an Imperial IPA!
M - Mouthfeel is spot on here. Medium bodied, and modest carbonation, and a slick, smooth texture.
O - Overall, this is a solid, and different kind of PNW IPA. A little more assertively hoppy than even this west coast IPA guy cares for in a "regular strength" IPA, but I still enjoyed it, and die-hard hop fanatics will absolutely love this one.
