Lava Lake Wit pours to a hazy shade of yellow with a mildly pleasing nose of wheat, yeast, bread, citrus, and spice. The white foam doesn’t last very long and leaves no lacing as you consume.

This beer offers a taste that is similar in some ways to other wits, with its wheat, yeast, and other qualities but is different in other ways, with spicy flavors not found in most other beers of this style. Along with the unusual spice blend are flavors of oranges and lemons, but the spice is what I remember most, particularly that of chamomile.

This is a refreshing beer for the hot days of summer, but I have to admit that the spicy flavors present, while certainly different, are not necessarily what I prefer to taste in this style. I still find it okay, however, and I predict most who try it will find it at least palatable, even if not very impressive.

12 ounce can. Thanks Joe D for the sample

Enjoyed in a tulip, it pours hazed and muddy, with an almost greenish olive oil tint. Large off white head, that stays nicely. Then leaves thick cling and strands of lacing.

Lemons and assorted light citrus on the nose.

Flavorful wit, more oranges, wheat and moderate yeast on the palate.

Hops on the back dry things out nicely. Maybe a bit thin mouthfeel wise

Nothing amazing, but this is a decent tasting, worth trying wit. Suprised by some of the low ratings people have been giving this one

The LavaLake Wit has a interesting twang to it. The beer poures an clear yellow with thin white head that is leaving a spotty lace. The smell includes a lemon zest with hints of grass. The taste has an acidic flare to it with lemon and blood orange seemingly dominating the taste. The mouthfeel is average....lighter in body with decent carbonation. Overall this is not a good wit and I would not go seeking to have this beer again....It should also be known that I'm not a huge Wit fan.

Almost a finger of head on a hazy, light straw colored body.
The aroma had a little honey and grain. Faint overall though.
The taste was pleasant if light. The mildest bitter lemon note and a little spice.
The texture was crisp with moderate carbonation.
Not bad.

12 oz. can poured into a Logsdon chalice.

Appearance - Bright yellow hazy body. Big white fluffy head. Well-retained. Wispy on the surface when it settles.

Smell - Lots of spice. Coriander is the only one I can really distinguish. Lots of wheat, too.

Taste - Something like cinnamon right at the start. Strange. Grainy wheat flavor midrange and a spicy bite at the end. No real depth. Mostly spice.

Mouthfeel - It's light and crispy. Easy drinking, if low in flavor. Funny aftertaste, though.

Overall - No better than any other wit out there. Way over spiced, but it does make the nose interesting.

Thanks to the creator of the canquest, woodychandler, for this beer. Poured from a 12 oz. can. Has a golden color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is sweet, some citrus. Taste is also sweet, mild, some citrus, a bit of apple, kind of unusual for the style. Feels medium bodied in the mouth and overall is a decent beer.

From the 12 fl. oz. can. Sampled on January 26, 2013

The color is a kind of olive oil yellow, cloudy and hazy, with a moderate fizzy white head that settles down.

The aroma goes in many directions with wheat, oats, yeast, lemongrass, citrus, brown sugar, and a little spice.

The body is creamy with a light -medium texture.

The key elements in the taste are the wheat and the citrus with a slight hop bitterness at the finish. Very interesting anyway.

Poured into an imperial pint glass. Color was a light hazy straw colored with a very thin white head. A few occasional bubbles rose from the bottom dancing around the haze. Aroma was slightly wheaty, with a bit of lemon hiding in there. Flavor had a bit of fruit, maybe orange peel? with a little bit of a bitter spice kick at the end. Coated nicely, with just a bit of carbonation. Overall flavor was kinda funky, couldn't place it however, not necessarily bad, just a bit funky.
