Poured from a 12 ounce can into a Shaker pint glass, there is no date on the can that I can find.

APPEARANCE: pours a cloudy, reddish-copper hue with less than one-finger off-white head that slowly dissipated until a thin, unbroken layer of small bubbles remained, there is moderate lacing on the glass, medium carbonation.

SMELL: caramel sweetness, bread and a faint roasted note then very flowery, pleasant to the nose.

TASTE: initially sweet caramel and slightly toasted bread then a mild piney hop profile, malt wins the day with this one.

PALATE: medium body and carbonation.

OVERALL: this is a good beer, a little sweeter than I like but still enjoyable, reasonably priced, I like this style but there are better options available so I would not seek this one out again.

12oz can. Poured out a clear, reddish orange color with a small white head. It smelled of toasted caramel, pine and citrus. Sweet caramel, toffee and citrus with a piney bitterness.

Starts off with a beautiful toasted amber color with baked brown highlights on the sides, and the head is a beautiful 2 finger popcorn color with tons of lace. Not much to improve on here, just great.

Total pacific hop going on here in the aroma. So fresh, so wet - grassy, piney, floral. Very faint baked malts behind that.

Total pacific hop glory here. Lots of sharp fresh hop, and the baked malts take a back seat yet still hold a formidable weight in the background. Fading notes of pine and grass. Fresh, fresh, fresh.

Feel is extremely electric with carbonation, and a creamy backside.

Overall I usually am not a fan of hoppy ambers, but this drinks more like a Red IPA, and has that great coastal thing going on. I'd have it again.

(Reading the other reviews I'm seeing more sweetness than hoppiness...did I get an exception or did the recipe change? This is seriously a pacific Red IPA right here.)

Sampled back on 3/2/16. Bought a single 12-ounce can to try. Can chilled down to 36 degrees F in my beer cooler and poured in to a "CHEERS-BOSTON" handled-glass stein.

Brew pours a hazy orange-amber in color with a decent head. A good amount of lacing was seen when sipped also. Lots going on with the aroma and really hard to pinpoint exactly what. Various fruits, pine, biscuit comes to mind. Pretty much for the taste as well with some pepper-like spice and yeast. Bitterness for the finish but decent. Medium-bodied and same for the carbonation.

Very tasty, sessionable.

Who the hell puts yeast in a can, though?

Attractive orangey-amber color but quite couldy. Plenty of foam, even the next day when I finished off the open can. Big aromatics and it smells like something new in my experience. Sudsy mouthfeel is also pleasant. Hot and bitter, but fruity. Sharp with hop acids. Some sweetness and a dose of malt. Tastes stronger than the ABV.

This would be a must-try for hop enthusiasts. I"m afraid I don't see the subtleties in it, however. Overall it's pretty murky. I think the whole idea of Belgian malts and New Zealand hops is wonderful, though, and I hope they'll keep working on it. From the 12 oz can purchased at Hi-Time Wine Cellars in southern California.

12 ounce can into pint glass, no can dating. Pours moderately hazy/cloudy reddish orange color with a 2-3 finger fairly dense and fluffy light khaki head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lasts. Nice dense foamy lacing clings down the glass, with a good amount of streaming carbonation retaining the head. Aromas of big lemon, tangerine, blackberry, strawberry, mango, melon, red grape, pepper, pine, caramel, toasted biscuit, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of citrus/tropical/piney hops and moderate dark/bready malt notes; with good strength. Taste of big lemon, tangerine, blackberry, strawberry, mango, melon, red grape, pepper, pine, caramel, toasted biscuit, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness. Moderate amount of piney/spicy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of lemon, tangerine, berry, mango, melon, pepper, pine, caramel, toasted biscuit, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/tropical/piney hops and moderate dark/bready malt flavors; with a good malt/bitterness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Moderate dryness from bitterness as well. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth and moderate creamy/bready/sticky balanced mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is a very nice amber ale. All around good complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/tropical/piney hops and moderate dark/bready malt flavors; and very smooth and easy to drink. A very enjoyable offering.

Pours a hazy red with a finger of foam and the foam lasts long.

Big piny nose with lots of citrus, hints of grain and bread and caramel malt.

Pine, caramel malt, a bit too much grain and bread in the taste.

Medium body and carbonation.

Average Red Ale in my book.

I picked up a can of Crazy Mountain's Boohai Red Ale last week for $1.79 at Boyne Country Provisions. This one caught my eye and I thought it was worth giving a try, so lets see how it goes. No visible bottling date. Poured from a 12oz can into a imperial pint glass.

A- The can looks good, it's got a good design to it and it's eye catching. It poured a orange red color that took on more of a red color when held to the light and it had a finger and half worth of light tan head that died down to a thin ring that stayed till the end and it left some spotty lacing behind. This is a pretty nice looking beer, I have no complaints.

S- The aroma starts off with a medium amount of sweetness with the malts being the first to show up and they impart some caramel malt, light grainy and light dark bread aroma with some doughy yeast showing up in the background. Up next comes the hops which impart some grassy. floral, piney and berry like aromas. This beer has a pretty nice aroma, the hop profile is a little unique.

T- The taste seems to be similar to the aroma and it starts off with a medium amount of sweetness with those same malty aspect being the first to show up with no single one seeming to stick out the most and and there's also a little bit of doughy yeast showing up in the background. Up next comes the hops which are just a little lighter this time, but they still impart the same aspects. On the finish there's a medium amount of bitterness with a caramel malt and piney hop aftertaste. This is a nice tasting beer, I like the hop profile, but I wish it showed up more.

M- Smooth, a little crisp, medium bodied with a medium amount of carbonation. The mouthfeel is nice and it works well with this beer.

Overall I thought this was a nice beer and I thought it was a little above average for the style, the unique hop profile is pretty much what saves it from just being another average IPA. This beer had nice drinkability, I could drink a couple of these, but it might start to wear on me after that. What I like the most about this beer was the flavors and aromas that the hops imparted, they were nice and unique. What I liked the least about this beer is that the hops didn't show up a little more when it came to the taste. I would buy this beer again if I knew it was really fresh and I would recommend giving it a try if the hop profile sounds appealing. All in all this was a nice beer, but it still was a little rough around the edges and with a little work I think it has the potential to be a pretty good beer. This beer made for a nice first impression for this brewery and I'm interested in checking out more of their beers. Nice job guys, I'll be interested to see what else you guys have to offer.
