Bottle #849 (I think ...thick felt used to number is hard to read) of Moon's first anniversary beer.

Appearance. Gorgeous rich and hazy gold-amber with three fingers of thick and sticky looking, cream coloured head.

Smell. Big tropical fruits, some lime, orange, and other citrus fruits, a bit of bready yeast and a little bit of sweet and lightly spicy malt ...kind of a peppery spice. Interesting stuff.

Taste. Wow. Big tropical fruits again, sweet and juicy. There's a little bit of citrus fruit but little bitter rind following as I was expecting. It's surprisingly low in bitterness considering the abundance of hop flavours. The high abv is dangerously well hidden.

Mouthfeel. Medium-full body, medium-low soft carbonation. Not really sticky which is another surprise considering the decent sweetness.

Overall. Fantastic and unique wheat wine. I love the style when done right but this is like nothing I've had before. The Citra hops work well with the slight extra spicy graininess going on from the red wheat. Finishing this entire bottle won't be a problem (which might be a problem). (1,100 characters)

Bottle: Poured a murky brown color ale with a medium size foamy head with OK retention and some lacing. Aroma of light woody notes with some sweet caramelized malt and some residual sugars. Taste is also dominated by caramelized malt with some woody notes. Some hops notes are still noticeable. Body is about average for style with good carbonation. A little bit rough around the edge but there is some interesting idea in here for sure. (437 characters)

Appearance is a slightly cloudy dark amber with red hues with a decent 2 inch off-white head. Nice looking beer. Smell is tropical and citrus-y. It doesn't smell huge, but what's there is pretty appealing.

It's a medium-bodied beer, with low to medium carbonation. Initial taste is of orange peel and coriander, followed by a creamy sweetness. The hops and malts in this are really well balanced, though - it manages to avoid being cloying, despite its sweetness, and it hides its hops fairly well, so they're mainly prominent on the initial mouthfeel. It also manages to hide its 11.5% abv fairly well, making it somewhat dangerous.

Overall, probably the best I've had from Moon Under Water, and overall a great addition to the BC craft beer scene. Kinda sad this is a one off, but at the same time, I'm hopeful that Moon Under Water will keep releasing amazing seasonals and one-offs that will either match or eclipse this. They definitely seem to know what they're doing. (976 characters)

A: 1/2" cream coloured head that dissipated quickly over a murky reddish-amber liquid.

S: Flowers, limes, peaches, apricot, and yeast that smells somewhat like champagne yeast.

T: Limes, peaches, flowers, apricots, yeast, complimented by thick and tasty cereal grain flavours in the backbone.

M: Thick viscosity, somewhat drying, and a medium level of fine carbonation.

O: I love a good wheatwine and this one does not disappoint. (434 characters)
