Winner of the gold at the 2014 World Beer Cup® in the rye beer category, Habitus is a very drinkable, high gravity, crisp and spicy rye IPA, hopped generously throughout the brew process and then dry-hopped with over a pound per barrel of Sterling and Chinook hops. Earthy and spicy notes from both the hops and the rye malt, complimented by the floral and piney aromatics.

On tap at The Beer Company. Lasting head and lacing. Orange amber, very faint aroma, rye sourness and hop bitterness both catch your attention, and there seems te room on the palate for both. Interesting beer.

$ 7.00 (Including discount and shipping)/12 oz can ($0.583/oz). From Craftshack, San Diego, CA. Received 8/31/20. Reviewed 9/5/20.
Bottom stamped “CANNED ON 02/21/20” so 6.5 months old. Stored at home at 42 degrees and served at 50 degrees in a hand washed and dried Jester King snifter.
Appearance – 3.5.
First pour – Pale gold (SRM 4), clear.
Body – Deep gold (SRM 6), slight haze. When held to direct light, same with slight effervescence.
Head – Average (Maximum 4.8 cm, aggressive center pour), off white, medium density, average retention, diminishing to a three to eleven mm jagged crown and a thick foam island with many irregular pieces of foam remaining on the glass as the head retracts.
Lacing – Excellent! Wide bands of tiny to small bubbles with antlers, connected by wide columns.
Aroma – 3 – Weak pine, no malt, no yeast.
Flavor – 3 – Starts slightly sweet with roasted malt and ends with a slight hoppy bitterness. No yeast. No alcohol (8 % ABV, as marked on container) taste or aroma. No diacetyl or dimethylsulfide.
Palate – 3 – Medium, almost sticky, soft carbonation.
Final impression and summation: 3.25. Flavor and aroma are weak, probably due to age. Might have been really good when fresh.

12oz canned 2/21/20, opened 4/9/20.
Deep golden / copper color IIPA with good clarity. 1 finger off white head with decent retention leaves behind clingy lacing and holds as a solid cap.
This is a unique nose that's hard to describe. Some of it's uniqueness is the rye malt bill I believe and a spicy/herbal hop component that pushes the "spicy" element sky high in the nose. Also a sharp twang that isn't fruity or piney as a hop type descriptor.
Very high tone flavor pushing a varnish quality. Pine bitterness.
Spicy is there but a little overwhelmed by the initial flavors.
Medium body and carbonation. Lingering bitterness and a dry finish.
Very unique aroma and flavors - probably not for me.
Good.

Poured from a can - not quite clear amber/gold color with quickly dissipating white-ish head , minimal lacing. Nose is malty, earthy and spicy . Taste follows with hints of floral hop bite and a dryish finish. Definitely rye influenced but not particularly balanced.

12 oz. can:

Pours deep golden with a thin white off-head. Uneven lines of lacing stick.

The smell is perfumy/catty with pine.

The taste is of pine needles and perfume. Minty rye in the dry finish.

Medium-bodied. A bit sharp.

An interesting brew. Not too fond of it, but it is decent. Not sure if the rye clashes. Or just too perfume-like for my personal tastes. Yet, I did enjoy it's uniqueness Glad I bought the 6-pack, but don't know that I would seek out again. An Imp. Ipa with a twist of rye. Certainly worth trying it!

Not a bad value, as it comes in 6-packs for about ten bucks (Sun Devil Liquors, Mesa, AZ).

12 oz can. Pours hazy golden orange with a medium fluffy off white head that retains well and laces the glass.

The aroma is sweet caramel malt and fruit with floral rye hops.

The flavor is sweet caramel malt with fruit and rye and a piney hop finish. The mouthfeel is medium bodied and a bit watery.

Overall, a decent DIPA.

Acquired via trade from Wasatch so a big “Thank You” goes out to him. Poured from a 16oz can into a US tumbler pint glass.

A: The beer is a deep gold color with a short off-white head that fades quickly and leaves a thin lace on the glass.

S: The aroma contains citrus, caramelized malts and grassy hops.

T: The taste starts out sweet with flavors of caramel and citrus. Then a strong grassy hops bitterness comes in. The malt character is hearty brings a good balance. The after-taste is slightly sweet and slightly hoppy.

M: Crisp and smooth, medium body, medium carbonation, finish is slightly sticky.

O: Tasty, goes down easily, not too filling, good kick, good representation of style, this is a solid 2IPA to drink for a long time.

Pours a thickish looking cloudy light amber color with a dollop of lathery white foam atop. Righteous lace gets left behind and head becomes thick ring and lasting skim.

Light aroma of earthy rye, neutral sweet, light caramel, other grainy sweet, and spicy herb notes behind it all.

Rye earthiness is nicely present in a med. strength taste that carries a touch of caramel to accentuate the generous bitter attributes. Kind of a complex bitterness, sort of rooty but also a touch astringent and spicy.

About average body and viscosity for style, could be a touch less carb., soft on palate, and a very tasty hop linger finish.

Hops are brought out nicely both by a restrained uise of caramel malt and nice use of rye as accent. Tasty beer glad I got to try it.

Slightly hazed orange-amber color with two fingers of tan head that leave heavy lacing.

Sweet, malty aroma with caramel and orange most prevalent.

The taste is similarly sweet up front with light caramel malts and orange flavors. There is a spicy, rye-like bite on the backend, but it's mild; then some strong pilly bitterness lingers in the aftertaste.

Medium bodied without much that stands out in the feel.

Not as much rye or hop character as I hoped. Possibly past its prime? Couldn't find a clear canned-on date.
