Bottle pour at Woodshop 7 held at Beachwood BBQ & Brewing in Long Beach, CA.

Pours a murky brown with a foamy khaki head that settles to an oily film on top of the beer. Small dots of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of malt, citrus zest, citrus fruit, tea, and spice. Taste is much the same with a spice finish that lingers on the palate after each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp and medium bodied mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer for what it is but it’s not something I would go for again.

Thanks Scott for sharing this.

Had this back in mid October, review is from notes.

A: Poured from the red wax dipped bottle into a tulip glass. The beer is a clody dull copper, or amber honey color. A soapy consistency head forms, settles to just a ring of bubbles, leaving behind some nice spotty lacing.

S: Scents are of wet hay, some herbal spice, and a touch of pineapple.

T: Flavors range from light caramel malt, kiss of toffeee, pilsner malt, biscuits, and yeast, with a mild dryness that lingers on the finish.

M: Light to medium carbonation.

O: Decent, but not my favorite from Hess. To me, it does not represent Mike Hess's creativity or quality that I've expereinced in other beer he makes. Perhaps it was best consumed fresh as possible, or meant to age longer, not sure.

Thanks for sharing this, Evan.

A: The beer pours a cloudy orange color with a finger of white head.

S: Not shockingly for an "Oaked Belgian Style IPA", the hops are sort of faded. A bit of sweet citrus and maybe a light floral note. Some sweet malt aroma as well as a touch of oak, yeast, and esters.

T: The flavor is pretty much the same. A little bit more of the oak character with a light tannin feel to it. Some mild vanilla notes as well as hints of grapefruit and orange peel. Very little bitterness.

M: Medium bodied with a medium carbonation.

O: Too sweet and I don't understand why brewers insist on continuing to age IPAs on wood.
