A pretty interesting barleywine, on tap at the brewery.
Despite the claim of a "west coast-style" this highly hopped beer isn't all that hop-forward. It's dark amber, pretty clear, with a fluffy head that sinks quickly, and nice lacing.
Sweet but not cloying, you know the booze is there but it doesn't hit you over the head. Molasses and caramel, spices and vanilla. Woody oak notes mix well with everything else and don't dominate. Pretty balanced all things considered, enjoyed this one and I'm not biggest barleywine fan around. Full-bodied with modest carbonation. Sticky, lingering sweet finish. A little boozy heat at the end as well.

They describe this as an "oaked barley wine." Quercus is the genus of oak trees. Not knowing what it was, I guessed it was straight from Belgium. Big yeasty taste of the funky stuff at first sip. But the malty sweetness asserts itself. Rich with long spicy flavors.
Amber color in the tulip. Such an interesting balance of spicy aromatic hops and deep maltiness. Not overly bitter, with an interesting tang to offset the sweetness. Oak is not very evident, and certainly no boozy barrel flavors.
