Hess calls it a Belgian Golden Ale. You could say it's an Imperial something or other, but a great strong blonde beer in any case. Not overly carbonated as is typical of the brewery.
Sensationally aromatic with a great spicy flavor that lasts and lasts. Some yeasty flavors but clear golden in the tulip glass. The body is lighter than you'd expect for a strong beer. A very pale amber in color, but quite attractive. A really nice hoppy and yeasty edge to the stuff. Less sweet than many Belgian-style beers. One of the cleanest of the Hess beers that I've had, and a new twist on the fruity but dry style. Flavors of pear and tart apple with the malt.
On tap at Local Habit in San Diego, a reliable source of the elusive Hess beers. 12 oz for $6. Highly sippable.

On tap at Hess Brewing Company in San Diego, CA.
Pours a slightly hazy yellow with a foamy bone colored head that settles to a film on top of the beer. Foamy patches of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of malt, grain, yeast, spices, and some slight fruity aromas. Taste is much the same with a mild amount of spice bitterness on the palate after each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp and medium bodied mouthfeel. Overall, this is a good beer that is quite tasty and easy to drink.
