Very suprised to find only two beers reviewed from this famous old brewery and that I haven't reviewed any since joining this site. My third beer in one of my 'random beer evenings'.
This beer came in an attractive 500ml brown bottle, posh labels too. Poured into an Abbot Ale tankard.
The look is a clear amber one, bright and clean, on top an off-white blanket of foam. Good, thick and heavy lacing followed the beer down the glass as it's level sank.
The aroma is malty, semi-sweet molasses with fresh biscuits dipped into them. Very little hop presence in my nose, even though the rear label claimed it had a "distinctive hop aroma".
The taste follows the smells very closely, but weakly. The hops getting in on the act with a sharpness not expected from the smells. It does however lack any true strenght of taste or flavour depth, leaning towards a bland feel to it.
A disappointment to be honest.
