16.9 ounce bottle - $5.98 at Sherlock's in Kennesaw, Georgia.

Appearance: Pours a clear, bronze-hued body with a goodly-sized, wisped, white head. A little fleck here and there of lacing on the way down.

Smell: A nose on the sweetish side, hinting notes of toffee edged crackery, biscuity maltiness with dried herb, spice and some incorporated fruitiness.

Taste: Soft, subtle biscuity malts with a low, light toffee sweetness. Minor graininess. Herbal, leafy hops, faintly earthy with a zip of zest, too. There's enough bitterness there to balance it out. Appleskin fruitiness throughout, alongside a low yeast quality. Semi-dry, gentle finish with final tastes of caramel, fruit.

Mouthfeel: Medium-light body. Medium carbonation.

Overall: Simple but sufficient if a bit pricey.

Love me some Maiden.Poured into an imperial pint glass a clear rich golden with a thin wispy head that was gone in a flash, great color, dissapointing head.Aromas of deep caramel biscuit and hint of brown sugar,a faint green apple-like sourness as well.A light mouthfeel near being watery but not quite.Nice flavors for what it is,a subtle English ESB,caramel and buttery tones with a tinge of iron, the green apple notes come through again in the finish along with a light smattering of leafy hops. The beer is eh...ok,the band kicks ass and the charge of the light brigade was very heroic.

Poured from a 500 ml bottle into a Surly tulip glass.

Appearance: Pours a deep caramel amber orange with a moderate amount of bubbles. About one finger of off white head which fades into a thin patchy layer. Leaves a decent amount of lacing on the glass.

Smell: A bready and toasty malt forward aroma with some citrus hop hints. Toasted malts with hints of biscuit, caramel, toffee, grains, cracker, and tea. Slight hint of brown sugar and honey. Earthy, floral, and grassy hop hints. Citrus fruit hints of orange peel and lemon zest. Smells like the classic English bitter with its bready malt and laid back but noticeable hop presence. Solid aroma.

Taste: Follows the aroma, a crisp and bready malt forward English taste with a nice backing mix of hop notes. Bready and toasty malts upfront with notes of biscuit, caramel, toffee, toast, grains, tea, and crackers. Nice hop presence with some floral, earthy, and grassy notes. Citrus notes of orange and lemon zest. Subtle taste of sugar and honey like sweetness. True to the classic English Bitter. Pretty good.

Mouthfeel: Light to medium bodied with a moderate amount of carbonation. Crisp, creamy, and very smooth.

Overall: A pretty good English Bitter. Classic biscuity malt flavors with just enough hops to provide some balance. I'm a pretty big fan of the band and its pretty cool to see a collaboration like this. The beer is nothing mind blowing but its good for the style.

Up the Irons!

A 500ml bottle with a BB of June 2014. Picked up the other day from Morrisons. Named after an Iron Maiden song that was inspired by the Charge of the Light Brigade.

Poured into a tulip pint glass. A clear orange-amber colour with medium carbonation. Forms a decent head of white foam that lasts for a minute or two before subsiding to a thin surface layer. Aroma of fruity ale yeast with hints of mild caramel malt, grass/hay and rather harsh stewed leaves. A touch of cardboard in the background. Weak.

Tastes of faint caramel malt with a mild bitter finish. Notes of fruity ale yeast, stewed leaves, grass/hay, a hint of caramel/toffee and very faint citrus. Well-attenuated, with a twinge of harsh cardboard in the background and a dry, leafy bitterness upon swallowing. Mouthfeel is smooth and tingly, with pleasantly effervescent carbonation but a thin, watery body. Slightly astringent, followed by an aftertaste of mildly acrid stewed leaves and faint yeasty esters.

Meh - a disappointment. Looks OK, but the aroma/flavour are dull and uninspired while the body doesn't offer much to sink your teeth into. Coming from Robinson's I suppose I should have expected this, but I was hoping that the Iron Maiden connection might make for a more uncompromising brew. Oh well. No need to rush out and buy it.

A bit of a novelty beer for those metal enthusiasts out there, you would think this beer would have been an aggressive imperial stout or something more extreme for a bottle donning an Iron Maiden Union Jack touting zombie Trooper. It's labeled as a premium British beer abv 4.7% abv. Nothing wrong with this beer, filtered bright copper ale with a nice light khaki head, leaves behind layered speckled lacing on the sides of my chalice. Aromatics are nice earthy cereal malts, with hints of pine and citrus from the hop additions. The fruity esters bring out hints of cherry, with caramelized sugars bringing some perceived sweetness as well. Flavor is okay a nice solid British ale, fruit adds some complexity a zing of hops but seems less cohesive and flavor forward than I enjoy. It's hard to knock it, but it doesn't excite me at all. Mouthfeel is light to medium bodied a bit of slick hop oils left on the palate, but clean flowing carbonation washes most of any residual oils left on the palate away. Overall a beer I can't picture purchasing unless it was for my old roommate from Bangalore, India...he love British metal from this era...I miss Chaitanya Harimohan due to drinking this beer.
