Notes/Commercial Description:
TROOPER takes its name from the Iron Maiden song which is inspired by the famous Charge of the Light Brigade. Being a real ale enthusiast, vocalist Bruce Dickinson has developed a beer which has true depth of character.

TROOPER is a Premium British Beer inspired by Iron Maiden and handcrafted at Robinsons brewery. Malt flavours and citric notes from a unique blend of Bobec, Goldings and Cascade hops dominate this deep golden ale with a subtle hint of lemon.

Reviewed from notes. Poured from 16.9 oz. bottle into an Upland pint glass.

A: Dark gold to bronze, nearly completely clear, with a thin white head and medium visible carbonation.

S: Bready and pilsner malts with a bit of toasted character dominate. It smells to me of some lager yeastiness, mild fruity yeast esters, and a bit of sulfur.

T: Follows the nose almost exactly – bready and less pilsner malts, lager yeast, mild lemon zest and grassy hops. It stays almost balanced but still a bit malt-prominent on the follow.

M: Body seems a little on the watery side, medium carbonation, and low alcohol presence.

O: This required a double-check of the label. It clearly says ale, but this really drinks more like a lager. As an ESB (as listed here, I don't see that indicated on the label) it's even less appealing. It really isn't particularly good. Nothing I'd say you need to avoid, but nothing to even consider going out of your way for.

Iron Maiden, will it have me screaming for vengeance? Let's give it a whirl. Popping the top I get a very bready malt smell. Pours to a deep golden brown with a three finger head that has a creamy top. On the taste I get a nice balanced slightly bitter solid brew that is common but tasty. Mouthfeel is solid. If any beer is a sessioner, it's this one. Nice ABV @ 4.7 and good ordinary but inoffensive taste. For an everyday drinker this one is a winner.

Appearance is amber and the aroma is of malt and with a hint of lemon. Taste is bitter, and has a light aftertaste to it. Iron Maiden Trooper is a good beer, has plenty of character, but I found the aftertaste a bit underwhelming. I would say that Trooper is a type of beer that takes its time to get used to. In other words, the more you have have it, the more you'll enjoy it.

Appearance: It has a nice somewhat clear deep orange color to it. It has a nice bubbly off-white head that dies down moderately fast and leaves some lacing.

Smell: The aromas definitely give out hints of grainy/buiscuity malts, sweet caramel and some earthy hops.

Taste: Like the aromas, it has some grainy malts, faint buiscuity notes, some caramel and light earthy hops.

Mouthfeel: It has a low-medium carbonation with a somewhat light and watery overall balance and feel.

Drinkability: It's a very smooth drinkable beer accompanied by decent flavors and aromas.
