Brauerei Königshof “ Brauerei Königshof Pils”
,5L brown glass bottle coded “MINDESTENS HALTBAR BIS: 24.05.22 LB904”. Sampled on 30.09.21
€,49 @ REWE CITY, Hohe Str. 30a, Köln, DE
Look: Clear straw gold in color beneath a full head of dense bright-white foam. Very good head retention and lacing.
Smell: Lightly sweetish and grainy malt with floral and lightly grassy hops.
Taste: The taste follows the aroma with the addition of a stiff bitterness that balances it and brings it to a dry conclusion.
Feel: Medium-light in body and gently crisp with a moderate carbonation.
Overall: While there’s nothing technically wrong with this Pils it’s clearly not of the finest quality, and it lacks character. Where it works is as a lighter bodied and easier to drink beer.

On 14th Jan 2012 I decided to have a lager/pilsner/helles/light beer evening: a 500ml bottle of this beer was the second to be opened. Poured into three Pilsner glasses; each one filled with a lively golden bodied beer that showed a full head of white foaming bubbles. The beer was a bright golden yellow in colour, a good looking brew.
The nose was your typical Pilsner: so weak hints of hops, grassy in places and almost a malt ester aroma as the beer warmed in the glasses.
The taste was again the regular Pilsner sharp; hop based tangy beer you’d expect. This one is slightly sweeter than most and doesn’t have such a cutting bite as some either.
Once the beer had calmed down a little it seemed to mellow somewhat and from the lively beginning it turned into a softer, easier to drink beer: not bad at all.

Catch up rating from notes, 2012: Bottle from Edeka Markt. Bright, clear golden pour, one finger foamy head, lively carbonation. Crisp grassy aroma, hint of hops, spot on. Taste was clean, full bodied grains with a nice sharp hoppy bite at the finish. Solid all the way through, didn't disappoint.

This is one hell of a pilsener! The brewery is near the Dutch border but i bought this one in a supermarket more south of Germany. I had never seen this one before.
Cracked it open last night. Poured in my Struise glass the beer looks very good, a firm and big white head, a lightyellow fluid and nice carbonation. That's how a German pilsener should look.
Nice and fresh smell. A somewhat dry taste with notes of the hop and barley. One of the better German beers i have tasted in a long time.
