I was just in Antwerpen a couple of weeks ago and went here for a very enjoyable evening with my daughter. The guy in charge that night (Paul?) was very knowledgeable and attentive not to mention a nice guy. Great range of beers at pretty good prices. I only nicked them slightly on selection because they do not have Westy and the Kulminator does (though you have to ask - it is not in the beer bible). My daughter likes the sours and Paul pointed her to the Duchesse De Bourgogne which might now be her new favorite beer. Of course after that we shared a Cantillon Lou Pepe Gueze - so maybe not! A really great place.

Rather small beerpub in the heart of Antwerp. The staff really know what they're talking about. Great selection of Belgian beers. Great atmosphere, you feel very welcome and people like coming back.
Only food offered is cheese, salami or toast so I'm not rating that part.

Ever since I first visited this place, I steered away from the Kulminator as my go-to place for a beer in Antwerp.

First up: service. The owner ("patron") is extremely passionate about beer, often organises tasting workshops and is himself a qualified beer sommelier. One man (Paul) and two girls keep it open when he's not around, all equally empassioned by beer and everything surrounding it.

The selection may be small compared to some pubs in Antwerp, but is extremely well-balanced, with many hard-to-find bottles. All Struise fans should definitely have this place on their wishlist when visiting Antwerp, since they quite often strike exclusive deals to have some Struise beers on tap. As of the past few months, they've been the only bar in the country to have Pannepot Reserva Special (aged on port barrels) on tap. Their tap selection also includes Christmas beers when in season and the fabulous Houblon Chouffe.

Prices are very reasonable, if not cheap for the centre of Antwerp. The most exclusive beers will set you back roughly €6.50, which is nothing compared to the monstrous prices a pub like the Kulminator will ask for a similar bottle. Also note the people at Aentwaerps Bierhuyske hate to be called a pub or café, it's a "bierhuis" (beer house) and nothing else of the sort!

Food consists of the general cold cuts like cheese and salami that you'll usually see in Belgium, but also very reasonably priced at €5 for a big platter.

Ever since I first set foot in this place, I knew I would rarely have any business being in the Kulminator anymore. Sure, I could pop in there for an occasional rare/exclusive brew, but if I can get most of everything I like with VASTLY better service and WAY cheaper... yeah, no regrets really.

Cannot recommend this place enough. Visit, visit, visit! Me and a bunch of other people that have defected from the Kulminator are eagerly awaiting your arrival!

Found this place on the way to dinner and had to stop in for a beer. A nice outside cafe and a totally open front with a rather large bar. All the way in the back there were about six coolers full of bottles. The bartender had a small language barrier, but we made it work. Once we chose our beers, we headed outside to enjoy the surroundings. This is on a side street, so no cars, but still plenty of bikes and foot traffic. I can't really say it was fantastic, because places like this are all over, but it was still just a neat place to catch a beer.

The Antwerps bierhuyske is one of my favorite pubs in Antwerp. The people are always nice, and knowledgable, and they have a solid beer selection. Over 100 bottles, in clear glass fridge for you to decide between, and 9 beers on draft, 6 of which rotate. The three that are always on are, De Koninck, De Struise, and Cristal.

Paul the owner is a nice guy, but rarely around. He owns another bar, not far from the bierhuyske. Rob, is also a great bartender, and both of them are beer sommeliers, and part of the Antwerp bier college.

The girls are all attentive, and know about beer as well. It's a must visit if you're in Antwerp. Right down the street from the Frittur #1 in every tour book.

I visited this place last week to do a trade with Cheesemoose. Further i met some BA's there for a beer tasting. This place is near the well known towncityhall.

Small pipe with one bar and many mirrors and plaquettes on the wall. Simple toilets. Outside are some tables.

A good beer selection with about 100+ bottles and a line with taps. As we were there they had Pannepot on draft. Prices are reasonable.

The bartender allowed us to drink up our beers we had brought with us for a tasting. He knows a lot about the beers he is selling.

When you are in Antwerpen this is a place you must visit. It is only a one minute walk from the City center to this place

Hit this place twice during our last trip to Antwerp (Dec 2010), snow, cold and the Christmas Market forced us to take refuge in this fairly new bar.

All the tables are supplied by 'Malheur' by the advertising design of the tops, all blue and orange (with Malheur written on them). As already stated, long and thin bar. At the rear it opens out a little and the large glass fronted fridges display the bottle selection nicely. Smokey and friendly, a local Bagpipe player dressed as a Highlander had also come in from the weather on our second visit and would occasionally burst into a half reconisable tune, all very strange, yet Christmassy and somehow apt at the time.

St Bernadus Christmas was on tap and was in wonderful condition, the wife choose the on tap Kwak plus others as I stayed with the first choice on both visits.

A good, proper beer bar, not pretentious in any way, yet another reason to visit Antwerp for beer and its bars.

I visited the last weekend of May 2010. This place is just across and down the street from Frituur No. 1, not far from the Cathedral.

It is a long, narrow place, with the bar on the left as you enter. There are lots of mirrors, making the place look larger than it is. There are small tables near the door and along the right wall behind the bar stools and some tables in the rear. There was lots of breweriana on the walls. A long mirror on the wall opposite the bar, and glass behind the bar.

A very good beer selection with about 100 bottles and 9 taps. Here is the tap list on my visit: Cristal Pils, Affligem Bruin, St. Bernardus Tripel, Delirium Tremens, Kwak, Houblon Chouffe, Lindemans Kriek, and Pannepot. Prices were reasonable for Antwerp.

Light rock music was playing on this late evening. The bartender was very friendly.

Recommended.
