poured from a 500ml bottle into my new belgium tulip glass. The body is a dense yellow orange color, reminds me of apple juice, moderate carbonation rises to a thin head that dissipates quickly.

The smell is very fruity, citrus and apple dominate it and they are sweet and floral in nature. A bready malt input comes later to round out the scent but not much bitterness or alcohol esters present.

The taste is quite different from the scent. It is quite bitter, a plantlike foresty pine flavor that smacks your palate in the face. The aftertaste leaves something to be desired though, a weird off flavor that I can't really attribute to anything in particular, like a rotting sweet onion or something.

The mouthfeel is pretty thin, easy to drink but not like a creamy ipa or anything.

This one is very interesting. I've never had a Smokey dipa until this one. The smokyness is a little strong cause it really lingers in the aftertaste quite a bit. This was very unexpected. If this was a black ipa then the flavors would make sense. Does compare quite a bit with Odell mountain standard black ipa. This one is certainly worth a try, especially if you enjoy smokey beers.

At my local craft liquor store, Ale Of The IMP was listed as a "Pliny killer," so of course I had to give two a try.

Ale of the IMP certainly delivers the same peachy/grapefruit hops flavor found in Pliny. In fact, I believe that many would have a difficult time distinguishing the two apart in a head-to-head bottle test. I say bottle test, because if you have had the perfection that is Pliny from the tap, you know that there is no beer that even comes close.

I found AOTI to be slightly more carbonated than Pliny, but overall a fabulous beer hiding right here under my nose in San Jose.

I won't call Ale of the IMP a "Pliny killer," but it certainly is a "Pliny filler" for those times you don't have access to a Pliny. I can't wait to check this out at the tasting room.

The less than attractive label should've warned me.

A - Poured out a clear, copper color with a one-finger, off-white head of foam. It left little to no lacing.

S - It smelled malty and spicy with some pine.

T - Malty and sweet. Too sweet. Spicy and piney but not very enjoyable

M - It was crisp, sharp and smooth. A medium bodied ale with a dry finish.

O - This is unbalance and not very good. Too sweet and malty but not in a good way.

Thanks to ericandersnavy for sharing this bottle.

The beer pours a golden orange color with a white head. The aroma is very hoppy, with a ton of pineapple, grass and other citrus notes. The flavor confirms that this is a hop bomb. There is a ton of bitter pineapple and papaya notes, with some grass and a hint of bread. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

Poured from a half-litre bottle into an Allagash cervoise glass.

A: Little head, some bubbles. Unfiltered, hazy amber. Translucent.

S: Big, brash, fruity, and herbal. I suspect Simcoe plays a large role. Onion and grapefruit. Very hoppy.

T/M: Surprisingly flat and mild, a touch of carbonation, but very little flavour. Herbal bitterness. A touch of boring citrus.

O: Wow, a seriously disappointing DIPA. Not much flavour, touch of alcohol. Would not have again. Not recommended.
