A: 3.75 - Very cloudy amber with a medium half-inch head.
S: 4.0 - Unusual hop aroma--very herbal, vegetal, somewhat minty. I wonder what varieties they used.
T: 3.75 - High bitterness, but not enough to conceal the sticky sweetness of the malt. Hop taste, like the nose, is very grassy, minty, and lingers on for a long time after the finish.
M: 4.0 - Big bodied, appropriate for a double, even if 8% doesn't seem that high. A good sipping beer.
O: 3.75 - Interesting overall, but not something I would see myself buying often.

This one is very interesting. I've never had a Smokey dipa until this one. The smokyness is a little strong cause it really lingers in the aftertaste quite a bit. This was very unexpected. If this was a black ipa then the flavors would make sense. Does compare quite a bit with Odell mountain standard black ipa. This one is certainly worth a try, especially if you enjoy smokey beers.

At my local craft liquor store, Ale Of The IMP was listed as a "Pliny killer," so of course I had to give two a try.

Ale of the IMP certainly delivers the same peachy/grapefruit hops flavor found in Pliny. In fact, I believe that many would have a difficult time distinguishing the two apart in a head-to-head bottle test. I say bottle test, because if you have had the perfection that is Pliny from the tap, you know that there is no beer that even comes close.

I found AOTI to be slightly more carbonated than Pliny, but overall a fabulous beer hiding right here under my nose in San Jose.

I won't call Ale of the IMP a "Pliny killer," but it certainly is a "Pliny filler" for those times you don't have access to a Pliny. I can't wait to check this out at the tasting room.
