Pours a deep orange, opaque with lots of head and decent lacing. Pale malt aroma followed by toasty malt, a bit syrupy, with light and floral hops and bitterness. This was more malty than I bargained for. Bready, yeasty, bitter. This is more viscous than most IPAs, the flavor disappears fast and bitterness lingers, but not too harshly.

I had higher hopes for the Citra version of Hermitages' single hops series. With Sculpin and Aroma Coma leading the way in floral, citrusy hops, how could the Citra hops version not live up to the hype? Well, I think I underestimated Hermitage's ability to screw up a style in which they have so many fine examples. I'm done, Hermitage. Sayanora Tied House. You managed to sucker me into buying three bombers because you are the only ones who did a single hop series, congratulations. Never again.

22 oz. bottle, with no apparent bottled on date present. My second beer from Hermitage Brewing Co., acquired at the local beer store for something like $6.99.

Poured into a Duvel tulip glass.

A - Pours a coppery bronze colored body with over a finger of fluffy off-white head and some yeast sediment visible in the glass. Leaves behind some okay scattered lacing. Looks pretty good.

S - The smell is skunky and piney. Bready, earthy, yeast, with a good amount of caramel malt noticeable. Lightly spicy and peppery.

T - Taste follows the nose - bitter, herbal, grapefruit / piney hop presence. Caramel / bready malts. Some spicy / bready / peppery sort of rye presence in there also. Oak, wood, and toffee flavors are noticeable. I'm more than confident this beer is past it's prime, and is probably no longer a nice showcase for the Citra hops at play here. Minor alcohol content noticeable. The peppery rye presence is dominant at this point.

M - The feel is crisp, smooth, and mostly clean. Leaves behind some resinous bitter hop presence, but the hops are past their prime at this point. Bready and dry on the finish. Medium-full bodied with good carbonation.

Overall, a decent single hop IPA, but I'm sure it would be much better when very fresh. Still, I would be interested to try others in this brewery's single hop series. The Mikkeller single hop series of beers that I had stood the test of time well; this beer, not so much. Like the Mikkeller Citra, this beer had lots of yeast clumps at the bottom of the bottle. Interesting to try, but I would be more interested in having it fresh.

22oz. bottle poured into a snifter. Thanx Chris!

(A)- Pours a slightly hazed amber orange color. Some good white froth and lacing.

(S)- Good citrus meets subtle floral notes meets a good caramel malt base.

(T)- Similar to the smell. Great floral citrus and caramel malt.

(M)- A good carbonation level meets a nice balance of hop, malt, and bitterness.

(O)- Its a solid single hopped beer, just nothing all that exciting; quite straightforward.
