just three reviews for this fairly available brew? hmmm. I have to preface this by admitting that I am a sucker for sorachi ace hops, easily my favorite varietal, so take this with a grain of salt if you want. the pour has a nice redness to it, and a prominent white head with fine retention, only a tiny bit cloudy. the nose is way more bitter than I am used to from sorachi ace, maybe they boiled longer than others, but this is bitter above all else. the lemon cream of this variety is subtle here, overshadowed by its oily bitter properties. malt balanced, but definitely less yeast impacted than the mikkeller version, which I think allows more of the hops characteristics to come through explicitly. so much bitterness in the flavor, I didn't realize the sorachi ace had so much in it, wow. the lemony flavors do come out about midway through, but so does some unnecessary malt sweetness. a nice ipa feel with a bigger body and standard carbonation. overall this is a really interesting beer. it shows that sorachi hops can be used to bitter very effectively, and yet still retain that buttery lemon property I love so much. super versatile, this doesn't seem bland like so many single hop brews. well done, I hope this gets some BA love. it deserves it.

A- light copper color, clear, with a thick beige head 2+ fingers.
O
S- caramel malt, woodsy, avacodo, nutty smell. Kinda musty and dank.

T- good base of pale malt and caramel malt. Hops are not a overpowering aspect but I would say a very smooth bitterness, with a bit of spice. Tabacco, pepper, dill, wood. And a slight sweetness ( from the malts). Finishes smooth and spicy.

M- medium carb, smooth feel.

O- if you come across these and are a hophead or just like good beer these are so fun. Gives you a good idea what a specific hop varietys flavors effect your beer. This beer is a dank, nutty, woody, spicy, ipa that is a thrill to drink.

Enjoy.

Poured from the bottle an amber-gold color with one finger of creamy beige head.

Aroma of mostly sweet caramel malts and maybe a hint of grapefruit. It's so subtle.

Like the aroma, the caramel maltiness dominates. A hint of grapefruit and pine are also there but not much. Light bitterness to the finish.

Medium bodied with a touch of stickiness and a moderate carbonation.

Average. Too malt heavy in my opinion to be a really nice IPA.
