Calypso hops are a dual purpose hop that was originally bred from the Nugget hop varietal. These large, square-ish hops have an alpha acid content of approximately 12% – 14%. Prized for their fruity character, we at HBC are excited to bring this hop to our single hop series.
Calypso has a resinous hop bitterness that lasts well into the finish. It has a fruity and earthy hop character that has hints of pear, melon, with a light spicy finish.

Pours an effervescent caramel with 3 fingers of cream colored head. Great lacing & even better head retention
S: Leafy & herbal hops, pears & faint biscuitty malt, plus caramel once it gets warm & some cattyness
T: Biscuitty malt, pineyness, herbal & woody hops & astringency up front. Dryness, a touch of caramel, cattiness, & pears, pineyness as this warms, plus aspirin. Finishes with some biscutty malt, cattiness, a kiss of booze warmth with astringency & a touch of grapefruit pith
MF: Medium bodied//chewy with slight carbonation , skews way too bitter
I'd have to say, I'm not a fan of the Calyspo Hop based on this small sample size. I am glad to have had the chance to try it. Would do in a pinch

Clear amber color, white head. Fruity, floral, caramel, grapefruit aroma. Medium body. Citrus, spicy, floral hops. Dry finish. A little light on the carbonation for my taste. Good solid beer on their single hop series. Most of their Single HOP series do a good job of showcasing the hop variety being used. Can't wait to see what else Hermitage will bring.
