Poured from the taps into a 5 oz sampler glass. It is worth noting that according to the menu this is not brewed with adjuncts i.e. corn or rice but instead with 100% malt.

A - Not promising, straw-yellow and transparent with heavy carbonation and no head.

S - Again not overly promising, some light malts to imply sweetness but nothing truly major in terms of malt or hops.

T - A pleasant surprise! The beer actually had some flavor, the malts brought desired sweetness which were followed by just a enough hops to add a little spice to the brew.

M - On the watery side but not overly unpleasant.

D - Very high, would love to have this one again!

16 ounce can into lager glass, no canning date. Pours slightly cloudy golden amber color with a small fairly dense white head with good retention, that reduces to a lace cap that lingers. Light spotty lacing clings on the glass, with a good amount of streaming carbonation retaining the head. Aromas of honey, biscuit, cracker, pear, apple, grape, floral, herbal, and yeast earthiness. Nice aromas with good balance of malt and yeast ester notes; with good strength. Taste of honey, biscuit, cracker, pear, apple, floral, and yeast earthiness. Lingering notes of honey, biscuit, cracker, pear, apple, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a short bit. Very nice flavor balance and robustness of malt and clean yeast ester flavors; with zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a smooth and moderately crisp mouthfeel that is good. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is a very good Helles lager. All around good balance and robustness of malt and yeast ester flavors; and very smooth and crisp to drink. A nicely enjoyable offering.

I have had (and still do) some CANs held in abeyance awaiting picture approval since I do not want to crack them open if I need to re-take a photo. This was one of three CANs sent to me in support of The CANQuest (TM) and one of them did not have a pic associated. All three are now solid and The CANQuest (TM) CANtinues in earnest!

From the CAN: "Drink Local-Think Local"; Craft Brewed & Canned for Your Convenience"; "Support Your Local Brewery"; "Please Recycle. We Do."; "A crisp, golden German-style lager with malty flavor and a clean, smooth finish. Brewed to the highest standard. 5.3% Alcohol By Volume."; "Beer Canned for Your Convenience Introduced in the 1930's as a modern idea offering many advantages over bottles, cans were said to provide 59% weight savings, 66% space savings and protect the beer from damaging light. Unbreakable, cans were also first touted as easier to pour, 'handy in the home', and able to 'slip into the pocket'. Why didn't they think of this before? Try it!"; and "Preserving History - When we opened in 1998 inside the historic Western Knitting Mill on Water Street, just two blocks east of Main Street in downtown Rochester, Michigan, we were bent on preserving the character of the building, so our brewery & pub feature the original hardwood floors, columns, beams and exposed brick walls of the old mill."; "Handcrafted Ales & Lagers". Whew!

The Crack opened a wide-mouth hole in the CAN and foam leaped out to greet me like an excited puppy. Down, boy! The Glug resulted in a two-finger-plus foamy cap of bone white head that extended above the lip of the glass and resembled a PBR ad from the 1970's. Nose was lager sweet but I did not note any adjuncts in it. This beer may have been mis-identified. After all, why would a brewpub bother making an AAL? See RichieS2's review. Color was a deep golden-yellow with NE-quality. Mouthfeel was medium-to full with a crisp, Geman-style lager sweetness on the tongue. Ahhh, lager the way it was intended, free of crappy adjuncts. Yummy and very welcomed after some of the recent nonsense. Beautiful lacing began to appear throughout. Finish was crisp, slightly sweet, highly refreshing. I would absolutely stock my cooler with this for a hot, humid day. Worth seeking out!

Reviewed on 6/21/2010. On tap at the brewpub. Pours a clear yellow with a white head. Aroma of corny, grainy, bready malt and light fruity sweetness. Flavor of sweet malt upfront with a bready finish. Light with some wheaty notes and plenty of grainy malt. A pretty tasty lager and certainly easy drinking.

A - Crystal Clear light golden yellow. Head from the pour but faded fast. Lacing the same, it is present but fades.

S - Malt smell, but enough going on here for a lager.

T - It is way better than a macro but it does not have a ton going on. For a lager it is very pleasant and very refreshing.

M - Very light (As expected). Carbonationis a perfect level.

D - Has enough going on that I enjoy it, it is very refreshing, and is very easy to down.

This is an average micro lager. I wouldn't compare it to any mass produced mass marketed beers but it is just a slight level above them. Poured a light gold with a very light head that didn't stick around too long. Taste wasn't bad but it wasn't anything to write home about. Mouthfeel was average. Drinkability is good. This is just an average man's beer for someone who just wants a drink, if you really are into beer, try a different beer. Rochester Mills has a lot of good dark beers.

Yellowy gold and not a lot of fizz. No particular aromas jumped out. In all honesty I can just cut to the chase and say it was on par with a Stroh's. Now I like Stroh's for a cheap beer, but at four or five bucks a pint I want to higher quality Lager. This beer is unimpressive. If you go to the Rochester Mills brewery get a beer other than this. Try the stout, red, or porter.
