16 oz can in pint glass

A - Amber with slight head. Thin foam throughout. Cloudy with appearance of both suspended yeast and slowly rising bubbles of carbonation.

S - Lovely malt forward toasty nose and an accompanying sweetness with hints of flowery hop coming behind. Biscuity quality.

T - Slightly bready and nicely toasted with interesting estery qualities coming through (some floral, some light fruit - perhaps blueberry?) balanced very well with mild hops giving an earthy character. Very smooth clean finish.

M - Not nearly as carbonated as the appearance led me to believe. Flat and medium bodied, very smooth.

O - This beer kind of made me think "What is somebody made a much better homebrew version of Killian's?" - certainly not the best example of the style I've had, but quite good and worth a try.

$2 16oz can... I've heard of this brewery before, but hadn't had anything from them before.

Appearance: Burnt orange/red/brown sort of color. About as carbonated as a pop... head bubbles away before it even really forms. There's a nice haze. Absolutely zero lacing. Pretty unattractive beer, to say the least.

Smell: Caramel malts, with a slight bit of roast. Mild hoppy presence. Nothing extraordinary here, but it just has a quality aroma.

Taste: Like the aroma, really. The hops come through a bit more, and the prickly carbonation opens up the taste buds. Pretty mild bitterness... nice bit of sweetness, and an overall solid balance. Aftertaste has a bit of that roast character that I got in the aroma. Carbonation is moderate/high with some prickly carbonation, and the feel is pretty thin. I'd maybe prefer a bit more body, but for some reason, this is working for me right now.

An ugly beer as far as appearance, but the price is right, and this is actually a very good beer. It's nothing that'll knock your socks off, and you'll no doubt have better from the style, but this is very enjoyable. I'd gladly have this again. Try it.

Ooooh. Nice. I like this one. Was taking it slowly and pondering the look, the fragrance...trying to be dilligent about it. Then I tasted it. Who cares about subtle nuances. This is a good beer. And it's a style not often seen. Very nice vibrant flavor that delivers an interesting almost vanilla toned floral thing, in an irish ale kinda way. If you've had several of this style, you will hear what I'm saying.

I was in the Grand Trunk Pub and a customer was suggesting AXL because it's a good beer and the brewer is "fucking hot", or some shit like that. Well, frankly, I don't care how hot you are; the beer needs to be good.

Boobies and schnazzy cans aside, this is a nice beer. If you see it, you should definitely try it.
