Had this particular beer multiple times, with different aged bottles. This one immediately doesn't seem to have the bright tartness I've found in other bottles, but interesting nonetheless...

Appearance: Really pale golden/honey colored body. Really active carbonation is visible. Nice head retention, with some really strong stickiness.

Smell: Lots of grass and earthier, almost spicy notes on the nose...along with some lemongrass. I pick up some light mustiness along with a distinctive sweetness. No real hop presence to speak of, unless it's lingering in that musty and herbal area...which I think would be really great.

Taste: Well, there may have not been a very bright tartness on the nose, but it certainly makes itself known upon the first sip. Great dryness accompanies a really clean tartness, which carries some lemon and citric qualities. I detect some perceivable bitterness here that wasn't really apparent on the nose, which works nicely with such a dry finishing beer. The aftertaste is especially neutral, and not bombarding on the palate...I plan on pairing this with food in the near future.

Mouthfeel: This is yet another strong point for this beer, the fact that the mouthfeel is so light and effervescent. This is an exceptionally easy drinking beer, which remains refreshing while still having those intricate flavor complexities. This is truly a wonderful beer to drink thanks to it's crispness, it's tartness, and it's accessibility.

Overall: A really awesome beer that I love to keep around the house. It's a really solid entry-level "sour," and it's pretty easy on the wallet. I don't really have anything else to say about it, that isn't just reiterating what i've already said...

Poured into a tulip glass. Pours a light wheaty cloudy color like a hefe. Head dissipated to nothing. Lots of bubbles.

Aroma is funky with a bit of champagne. A bit wheaty.

Taste is same as aroma. Very tasty. Very champaign ish with a bit of tartness and some wheat. Very refreshing.

Mouthfeel is nice and dry and crisp. Lots of bubbles.

Overall a great Berliner. Wish there were more of these around.

Review with some woodruff syrup thrown in. Aroma is a bit sweeter. Taste is much sweeter with a lot of the tartness cut out. Bit of marshmallow flavor. I think I like Berliner by itself better but it's still good.

thanks to ejeffer11 for this; poured into my stone snifter

a - pours a beyond opaque straw gold and this one's a bubbler! more than a three finger head that died after a few minutes, leaving no lacing whatsoever.

s - spicy german yeast, plenty of herbals in there as well

t - this one started colder than it should have and all i could taste was tart early on. as it warms an apply tart dominates. those with me thought it tasted watered down, which i only half bought into. the german yeast if very present throughout as well.

m - medium bodied with tons of carbonation, which i balanced the tartness nicely. a sipper for me.

o - this was my intro into berliner weissbiers, so i don't have a lot for comparison. but it was good as an after dinner beer to sip on while drinking. i definitely prefer lambiks and russian river sours in comparison, but it was great to try a german sour.

500ml bottle. Pours hazy golden with a short lived, thin, white head and lively carbonation. Aroma is of lemon fruit, barnyard, sour dough and hints of hops. Medium, tart body. Very sour, tart taste with hints of hops, while high carbonation adds to drinkability. This beer grew on me with every sip. I would not mix it with a syrup.

Picked up a bottle for ~$7. Poured into a wine glass. No date on bottle.

A- pours a bright wheat color from bottle. By adding a touch of the yeast from the bottle the beer sits a pale yellow hue. No head forms and only a few bubbles rise to the surface.

S- Bright sweet lemon with a good mellow tartness. Dusty notes with some wheat. Smells very light and refreshing.

T- Similar to the aroma indicated. Sweet lemon, a light tartness, wheat & dust. Simple mellow and refreshing. Flavors are pretty bold for such a light beer.

M- Medium bodied for a beer this light. Drinks like a light lemonade, except better. The tartness lingers lightly as the beer slowly dries.

O- A nice simple refreshing beer. Reminded me of JP Weizen Bam. So easy to drink. The flavors are bold enough to make this interesting. This beer exists between a wit and a blond sour. Would like to try more of this style.

A: Pours a fizzy white head, bigger bubbles that disappear at a higher rate. Looks nice and clear, turned cloudy towards the end of the bottle when the yeast was stirred up a bit.

S: Lemon, sour some malt

T: Lemon, slight sour, slight acidic taste. I could still taste some of the tartness when I licked my lips.

M: Nice fizzynness reminiscent of a lower carbonated deus, etc

O: Light and lightly tart, refreshing concoction, it actually reminds me of my wifes prosecco (Italian sparkling wine) a bit. This was my first berliner weiss, it seemed nice I've rated it 4's across the board.

A: Foggy pale yellow with a highly active one finger white head.

S: Lemon a bit of pepper.

T: Tart lemon citrus, bready yeast, a light bit of funk.

M: Light body with high carbonation. Mouth pucker from the sour finish.

O: Refreshing. Like a cross between a Gueze and a Hefeweizen.

Poured into a tulip. The color is very light straw and clear. There is a spritzy half inch head that shrinks to a layer around the edge of the glass.

The aroma is popcorn and wheat malt with some nice lemony tartness.

The taste has some mild wheat malt flavor in the start. This is quickly overrun with a clean sour lemon tartness in the middle and finish. The balance is heavily emphasized on the tartness.

This is very light with smooth carbonation that is only slightly spritzy.

This is very delicious and is a slightly more drinkable alternative to lambics and gueuzes.

A: Served from pint bottle into Belgian tulip. Pale straw, rather opaque. Head dissipates quickly.

S: Creamy wheat with citrus fruit and herbal notes. Light and pleasant, not sour at all.

T: Light sour notes, more apple and light drinking yogurt than lemon. Reminds me of Federweisser, the partially fermented fresh wine drink.

D: High due to lively acidity and carbonation. Would be great with pizza or savory crepes.

Overall this is the first Berliner Weisse I have tried and I must say that the style is to my liking. Great beer.

Edit: If you don't like the sour taste, drink it with something greasy. Having it with Camembert cheese now and can hardly feel the sourness.

A-Pours a hazed-out,dull yellow body with bits of yeast dispersed and suspended throughout by nice active carbonation.The head consisted of 2 full fingers of rapidly fading,noisy,bone-white foam that left virtually no lacing with the exception of a few sudsy dots here and there.

S-Juicy Fruit gum,preserved lemon,Wheaties,sourdough toast,an earthy/grassy scent and a slight sour milk note similar to Greek yogurt.

T-Bright flavors of Granny Smith apple,pear,unique citrus(Meyer lemon,starfruit),fruity yeast notes and a toasty wheat base.

M-Super bright and mild to moderately tart but not sour.Light bodied with active,prickly carbonation and a slight,subtle creaminess.

O-I must revisit this in the summer months!Super refreshing and unique style.

Crackling carbonation is quite high. Like a Perrier sparkling water. Nice head. The cleanest of light golden yellow bodies. Aroma is dominant with Granny apples, but there's also lots of lemon. Floral, fruity, Autumn apples. Taste is tart but not as sour as I had hoped. Fruity and dry. Thin, crisp, refreshing mouthfeel. On the bottle: Lactic acid. Mash hopped, No wort boiling...Hmmm I'm intrigued.

On tap at St. James Infirmary. Nice yellow haze glow to it, ample carbobation, head retention is exceptional. Good lemony and tart aroma, fresh ground wheat. Mild yeasty presence.

Taste, more tartness, great light mouthfeel and body to the beer. Amazingly similar to Hottenroth. So fresh and so clean. A perfect summer beer. Very prickly carbonation like a nicely done skunky pilsner (this is not skunky whatsoever). Like most good bw's, there is no residual sugar, just plenty of tartness and a light wheat base to wrap it around.
