This beer was a light brown color and when I first looked at it and it had a small head that faded fast. The taste was your standard brown ale but a little watery. You could taste the sweetness and the malt but not much else. I thought this beer would have a little more flavor to it but it was rather disappointing to me in the end. Not a bad beer by any means but not being all it can be.

Another quality brew from NBC...

Pours nut brown, slight translucency, moderate to light carbonation. Not much head, and a slight bit of lacing. Smells of medium malts, light nuttiness, was pretty fresh. Taste was good as well, slight sweetness, malts, and a decent hoppy punch that helps create a pretty fair balance of flavors. Enjoyable, I'd have it again.

Chestnut brown with a low off-white head. Mellow sweet scent. Pleasant, unassuming nutty maltiness with a hint of smoke. Bit of butterscotch in the finish. Medium body. Easy to knock back if a little boring.

Hmm. Let's see. So what else have we got here?

Appearance was a nice brown with a quickly dissipating head. Smell was malty but had some unpleasant metallic notes. Taste, was malty but not overly flavorful. Mouthfeel was light to medium..drinkabilty was ok, but not great. I would try theior other offerings, especiallt their stouts and porters.

Not as good as the Old Brown Dog in Portsmouth. A little more "watery" with a weakened taste. The principle components were still there, the sweetness, the malts, but they seemed to be diminished in the new location. Northampton should stick to their own brews.

This nut brown ale looked good, smelled so-so and then went downhill. It was watery, bland and was the best of the lot we had that day at Northhampton.

As with other Northampton beers, this one won't re-invent its style, but it is very tasty fresh, and worth drinking as a change of pace. This brew is an attractive amber-brown in color, and pleasantly malty and nutty. Sure, it's not Sam Smith's, but it's certainly nothing to sneeze at, either.
