My review is just for the bar portion of Scion. For the whole place, I'd have to knock down Service quite a bit. I've had multiple bad experiences with the hostesses and wait staff.

A - Very cozy, only knock is that it is quite small. Not a place to meet up with a large group but on weekdays at least, there's enough turnover at the bar for folks to eventually get a seat.

Q -I've never had a problem with the beer quality here.

S - The bartenders have all been awesome when I've been there. I've had a bartender randomly bring me over samples to try based on my previous beer order which i thought was nice. The place is small so you get a lot of interaction with the bartenders if you want that sort of thing. I've found them to be very knowledgeable, friendly and efficient.

S- They have about 10 taps that rotate with plenty of variety as far as styles and a nice bottle list (couple of Russian River beers on the bottle list)

F- The Burger is pretty hard to beat, especially on Tuesday when it is half price. The other happy hour food is a little hit or miss for me as I don't like lots of fried foods (but that being said, fried pickles are pretty great)

V- Possibly the best Happy Hour in the area! Half off drafts during happy hour (m-f: 5-7) which means most of the beers are in the $3.50 to $5 range. They also have food specials as well. When I leave Chuchkey, my tab is usually well over $100. I've yet to spend more than about $30 here and that's with food and many rounds of beer.

A-Very lowkey and cozy feel to Scion. Aside from it being packed during brunch on the weekends it's usually pretty easy to get a seat at the bar and relatively quiet.

Q-Excellent, never had any problems with a beer tasting off and they use proper glassware as well as stating the size of pours on the menu. Pints are listed as 14 oz so they are not leading you to believe you'll get 16 as some bars do.

S-Bartenders are all great and have solid knowledge about their product. When Tim's around he's happy to talk about what they have and what he's looking at getting in the future.

S-10 Taps that rotate very frequently and 50 plus bottles. Plenty of great options with some cool beers that aren't frequently seen in the DC area.

F-I usually stick with the shrimp tempura app or a burger with fries which are both tasty. Great value as the tempura is only $5 during HH and the burger is half price on Tuesday so it's a steal at the same price.

V-In my opinion they have the best HH in the city. In addition to the food specials all drafts are half price Mon-Fri from 5-7 which is awesome.

Overall Scion is a great place that does superb work with their beer program.

Visited on a Thursday night right after work.

A - Nothing too special. I ate a table near the bar, which was crowded for being so early. The bar was even more crowded when I left. Restaurant was having a special on Widmer beers (three on tap and a rep in house - I suppose somewhat related to the upcoming Brewers Assoc meeting next week).

Q - Served in proper glassware. No issues with freshness.

S - I thought my server was friendly and knowledgable, but she never seemed to be around when I needed her.

S - A good selection on both tap and in the bottle (with some rarer choices in the bottle). I was disappointed when they were out of the Ska Modus Hoperandi.

F - I had only appetizers. The mac & cheese with bacon was excellent! The burger sliders (one beef burger and one crab cake) were a bit dry, primarily because they came fairly plain. The rest of the menu did not spike my appetite. I might have problems if I went for a full dinner.

V - Food seemed reasonable. Beer was a little pricey. So I rate it pricey overall since I went for the beer.

O - Glad I visited. Will try it again. This time at the bar. Might be a good place for a date or the wife. Did not look conducive to a family dinner (think small kids). With Pizza Paradisio just up the street this place needs to up their game some.

Situated in a terrific location in the popular Dupont Circle area just blocks away from metro. Scion describes itself as an "Asian Fusion" restaurant, which apparently gives the staff liberty to offer an interesting mix of dishes such as Mac and Cheese for appetizers, Kobe Beef Burgers, pasta, and a variety of fish on the same menu. It provides a bit of variety, which is a nice change of pace from other high-end looking restaurants. I understand their menu is seasonal and they also buy locally-grown vegetables when possible.

This is a nice and cozy small restaurant, very fresh and clean-looking, modern tables and chairs. Very spacious and comfortable when seated. A nice plus. There is bamboo appeal all around the restaurant. Its low-lighting and dark-green walls could give one the impression that they are eating in an urban jungle.

The service here is impeccable. Our server was excellent - she had a cute and bubbly personality. Very prompt and attentive. Made great recommendations (good call on the Mac and Cheese and my Madeira chicken - $15 was excellent).

The downside to the menu is that with the exception of the entree, almost everything is a la carte. Want garlic herb fries or potatoes with those burgers? That will set you back between $2 to $3.50. It's an unsustainable way to run a refectory, especially with so many delicious options within walking distance.

Now, let's talk beer! I was blown away with the unique offering of excellent and rare beers that are not usually available in the DC metro area such as brews from Dark Horse and Ithaca. They also have rare (but expensive) bombers from AleSmith and Brooklyn (Black Ops). A pleasant treat for me that night. I will be sure to return and enjoy some more of the service, food, and beers even though it is a bit pricey here.

Cheers!
