poured from a can into an imperial pint glass. clear light amber with a fantastic white head and tons of bubbles

smell is almost nonexistent. maybe some malt and saltine crackers

taste is very mild, touch of hops and a bit of malt. balanced and smooth

mouthfeel is a little watery, but really easy to drink

overall, a better than average lager, but not great

From BeerAdvocate magazine Issue #67 (August 2012):

LOOK: Rich, bright copper with an impressive tight, creamy lace

SMELL: Earthy, mildly floral, grainy

TASTE: Silky smooth, crisp, semisweet, biscuity malt, honey, toasty, mild limey citrus, earthy

Touted as “Seattle’s very own session lager,” it’s what you’d expect: a low-ABV lager brewed with local ingredients. It’s not too hoppy, at 25 IBU’s, so the Magnum and Liberty only slightly challenge the Yakima Valley malts. Overall, this is a solid American craft lager, worthy of its flagship status and many sessions. That said, we’d love to see just a bit more hops and more “lager.”

Carefully poured from can into pilsner glass.
In spite of the careful pour, very aggressive multi-finger head.
Nice clear golden appearance. As foam dissipates and beer magically disappears from glass, nice lace rings cling to the side.
The flavor really grew on me. Since I'm used to drinking IPA's and stouts, it took a while for my palate to adjust but the more I drank, the more I liked it.
Very full bodied for a lager. A very nice enjoyable tanginess with a good hop finish.
I only bought one but will definitely seek out a few more of these.

On tap at Emerald City's taproom. July 2011.

A: Golden amber with thin a head of bubbles, little to no lacing. Crazy amount of bubbles rising from the bottom of the glass.

S: Smells of honey with a hint malt.

T: Honey and caramel.

M: Heavy carbonation. Easy and smooth.

O: Decent lager that would be fantastic on a hot day. Would choose this over the large mega brews, but still, that's not saying much.

Poured into a Seattle Beer Week pint glass. Pours a medium to dark coppery amber. Healthy three finger white head with decent retention and massive lacing. Aroma of biscuit malt, apple juice. Taste follows with biscuit malt, light fruit, nice dry hop finish. Light to medium bodied with good carbonation. A nice, well made dark lager.

On tap at Emerald City Beer Company. Served in a standard pint glass.

A - Clear dark orange, amber/brown color. Half-finger of small bubble head with retention. 3 dozen or so streams of carbonation running up the glass.

S - Very mild scent. A bit of honey, whiff of maltiness, and hint of cider.

T - Honey flavor up front followed by a malt flavor. Slightly bitter finish.

M - Light medium body and crisp, with fizzy carbonation.

D - A drinkable session beer, with the bitter finish giving it character. A decent year-round utility beer.

Poured from 16 oz can into pilsner glass.

A: Pale straw/light amber; clear to hazy; fizzy head, fairly lasting

S: Sweet, caramel, fruity

T: Sweet, nutty; mild hop finish

M: smooth, lightly carbonated compared to macro lagers, average finish

O: Easy drinking, more to it than your average lager; The smell is what stood out to me, the taste didn't quite live up to the promise of the bouquet for me.

Quite nicely rich with an appealing grainy taste. Just a hint of the earthy hops. Sudsy in the mouth and foamy in the glass. Amber color with a little orange.

Tangy on top of that pleasant malty flavor. English muffins and a hint of caramel. Hops are a team player here. Enough bitterness to promote some balance, but the aftertaste is more of a restrained beeriness and mellow malt. Definitely a twang of resins and some dankness along with the roasted barley.

Totally drinkable. More complex than you might expect. Dottie gets a lot of mileage out of that 4.9%. "You bet your sweet malt my hops are real," sez the lady on the tall can. It would take another photo to see the rest of her.

Canned: unk

Pours copper with a etched sheet of light cream. Smells like some kinda chinese food. Maybe like a cheap sweet and sour. WTF?! Taste is sweet with some cream, some crystal malts, a really nice marzen flavor - too bad the nose is such as it is. Medium bodied with lighter carb and a moderately dry finish. In spite of the nose, I might drink again, but not on the quality, on the intrigue.

Had this beer on tap at the Hooverville in Seattle last night.

Appearance: crisp orange hue with clear body. One finger of fizzy tan head with pretty good retention.

Smell: slightly sweet caramel and nutty aroma. Aroma was malt-centric and hops were all but absent. Light, but rather enjoyable.

Taste: again, nutty and caramelly with a good, balancing bitterness. Hops trend to the earthy side and I'm guessing they are some noble variety. This beer actually reminds me quite a lot of an Oktoberfest.

Mouthfeel: medium body (read: somewhat rich for the style) with a well-integrated carbonation. Creamier than I expect a lager to be.

Drinkability: tasty and eminently quaffable. I think this will have to join the list of my go-to brews.

16oz can purchased at Total Wine in Spokane as part of a 4-pack for $5.99. No freshness date. Judging by the picture on the can, Dottie’s a real looker.

Poured a clear, amber color, with a big, creamy beige head that dropped slowly. Lots of lace. Like the girl on the can, this beer looks great.

Big, bready malt scent on this one. Things are caramelishly sweet, slightly nutty, and (very) slightly spicy. I wasn’t expecting a hop blast, and my expectations proved correct.

A somewhat sweet, malty taste to this one. There’s a nutty, toasted malt flavor in the background. There’s also a little bit of dry hoppiness that confines itself to balancing the malts.

Medium bodied, with a slightly sticky mouthfeel. This might benefit from a little bit stronger carbonation.

Another micro that’s jumped aboard the can train, and I’m all for it. This beer is fine for one can, but I think it’s a little too sweet for a session beer.

(From notes.) Poured a light orange-copper with a finger of soapy white head. Mild malt aroma with a hint of caramel.

Moderate carbonation and a full, creamy mouthfeel. More grainy biscuit malt, caramel, and a hint of grassy hops.

This brew doesn't shake things up, but it hits all the marks in terms of flavor and drinkability.

A: Poured a copper color with good carbonation leaving a nice amount of bubbles and a small white head

S: A toasted like grains or breadiness on the nose with alight sweetness

T: Some toasty notes with a light sweetness, and unique hop bitterness mid palate that finishes it off. Right amount of booze.

M: Nice, well carbonated, pretty big for a traditional lager.

O: Not a fan of the bittering for this lager , nor the light toastiness that I receive. However, it's not a bad beer per se just different and not something I would reach for often

Served in straight pint glass. Poured a medium dark, honey-gold color with about an inch of white head that had decent retention and lacing.

The aroma was dominated by a sweetish malt scent, with some grain behind it and just a bit of gentle hops. On the tongue the story was similar, slightly sweet malts blended with earthy grains, backed up by a tickle of hops.

The body was very good, full, rich, smooth and well-rounded. Drinkability was very good as well, you could easily kill off a growler while manning the grill. Overall, a pretty nice brew. Worth seeking out if you're in the Seattle area.
