From the 650 ml. bottle less two weeks old. Sampled on September 7, 2014

Unfiltered milky pale yellow pour with a big white fizzy head.

The German malt character is front and center with a definite yeasty quality to it. A sort of vegetable hop thing for lack of a better description.

Medium to full body.

The taste is grainy and malty with a lingering and zesty bitterness to finish.

On tap at the NH Brewers fest. 4 oz served in a small glass poured a slightly hazy golden color with a thinnish white head that slowly dissipates to a cap. Smells of sweet pilsner malt with a fair amount of a spicy and earthy hops and a bit too much in the way of fruity esters. Sweet malty flavor is reminiscent of a kolsh but leans a bit on the sweet and fruity side for the style. Medium body with a light to moderate level of carbonation and a sweet slick mouthfeel. Nice brew, lightly fruity and a bit sweet, but an easy drinker.

Shared a bomber of the kolsch with a friend, and we both really enjoyed it.

A: Pours a slightly hazy golden straw-color, with a brief white head. Just about what I'd expect for the style.

S: The nose is very inviting, with that tell-tale pilsner malt smell. There's a faint hoppiness, but overall a sweet aroma, not all too complex, but very pleasant.

T: Taste follows the nose, with the sweetness of the malts leading the way. The taste was very crisp and clean, with very little hop bitterness except to keep the sweetness in check. There was almost a faint honey quality, maybe some distant fruitiness, and totally without the moderately skunky notes I've found in some kolsch.

M: Medium body, with fairly light carbonation, sweet and smooth.

O: An excellent kolsch--easily one of my favorites for the style. This would be perfect, especially for a hot summer day, given its low ABV, crisp and clean taste, and smooth mouthfeel. Refreshing seems to be a term too often reserved for crappy macro beers, but the Chocorua Kolsch is definitely a refreshing and very good beer.
