growler filled at the brewpub in the late evening of invasion weekend. Cheers Matt!

Pours a thick blackout, or black as night color with a half finger caramel colored head that dissipates slowly leaving nice retention around the rim of the glass. Fresh robust coffee bean aromas. Also sports that early Sunday morning recently brewed coffee in the air scent. Hefty roasted malt notes. Slight fresh leafy hop twang noticed in the nose. Again, this is one robust smelling brew. The smell of this brew could part the fog...

Wow! Bursting with robust flavors. Huge coffee bean flavors right from the starting gun. Roasted malt notes and maybe black patent malt beef up the robustness and dark color of the brew. Coffee oils are extra bold and juicy accentuating the flavors and adding to the mouthfeel. Very smooth on the palate with hints of coffee ice cream that contribute to the creaminess. Creaminess really comes through once the beer warms up a bit. Bitterness is detected in the finish, but it's quite subtle and sports the dominant coffee notes. Full bodied brew, but not overly filling. Carbonation is on the low side allowing the flavors to really peak and burst in the mouth.

A great wake-n-bake morning brew. Even though some would say the abv is a tad too high to enjoy this with breakfast or as a session brew, I say it would work perfectly. I actually believe the abv is 6.5% instead of what's listed, but anyhow, It's utterly rich and smooth making it almost a perfect partner for belgian waffles or pancakes and it's got the coffee notes to boot! I just wish this was easier to get!

On tap at Linwood in Boston. Served in a 16oz plastic cup (I assume because there was a ballgame going on, but a REAL pint glass woulda been nice).

This beer is very good. There is a stong coffee flavor with a kiss of chocolate and hops to balance the sweetness. It is superbly drinkable, just as most Offshore beers are.

Growler filled at the brewery.

Poured into an imperial pint glass, formed a somewhat minimal 1/8" brown head over the more or less opaque dark brown brew. Head is down to a uneven film pretty quick, but still leaves plenty of long-lasting lace. Aroma is WOW coffee, rich robust, you want it, it's here, with a nice dark malt sweetness underneath. Taste is a duet of the sweet grain character and intense coffee, which closes dry. Mouthfeel is smooth, and avoids the acridness some coffee brews end up with, and drinkability is nice. A nice wake-you-up brew to start your day with.

This was on tap at the Moan and Dove in Amherst, MA for a special Offshore event. This beer, served in a small mug, was exactly what I was hoping for. The color of black coffee, with a healthy, sticky brown head. Well rounded and robust flavor, richly roasty, with a balanced sweetness. Nice and thick, but not cloying or heavy. A mellow and graceful beer, but absolutely robust. Definitely has oats in it. Recommended.

Served on tap @ Offshore. Deep brown with a thick frothy mocha colored head. Wonderful espresso aroma. Moderate mouthfeel. Starts off with a very smooth roasted coffee flavor and mellows into a slightly sweet finish. An absolutely perfect way to start the day! Much thanks to Matthew for his warm hospitality and amazing brews!!!
