Having lived in Kansas City before I am a natural lover of BBQ. I had to check this place out when I found out they served decent beer here. I came here on a Thursday night around 8 pm. Parking is a bit of a tough situation. Had to park a few blocks away. I would recommend taking the el here if possible.
Fairly small inside. Probably can't sit many more than 50-75 people or so. They have a small patio outside too, but it was raining so there was no one out there. Typical atmosphere for a bbq joint. Items are served in metal trays and beer is served in mason jars, which was ok but not preferred. Tad on the loud side.
We were attended to within a few minutes after we had a few to look over the menu. Beer menu is fairly straight forward. 10 taps, all craft, and about 30 bottles or so, mostly craft. Prices were right in the 6 to 8 dollar range, which seems pretty typical for the city. Settled for a GL Nosferatu, but they seemed to cover a nice variety of styles. Pilsners, ipas, stouts, porters, oktoberfests, brown ales, etc.
Service was right how I like it. Very friendly and willing to help if needed, but not overly attentive to the point of bothering. She stopped by once in a while to check on us. Food came in about 10 minutes or so after ordering, which I thought was pretty fast. Not really sure about beer knowledge of the waitresses, but I would assume they know the basics, but not much beyond that.
Food was good. Food was around 8 for a sandwich, and more for ribs or chicken. It was good BBQ, not as good as anything you'd get in KC or Memphis, but solid for a place in Chicago. If I lived closer I would come back here again for sure.

Finally there's a beerfly-worthy BBQ joint in town...
This trendy new BBQ spot just opened on the same block as Piece, with a US-focused craft beer list and only a few macros. Inside it's a fairly small corner space, the rustic bar seats 15 or so, with maybe 12 tables and an outdoor side patio. There were "butcher shop" touches to the decor, including meathook light fixtures above the bar, and sterile white tile on one side of the room. Two silent flatscreens behind the bar, and country music on the speakers.
Their house beer is an Amber lager from Metropolitan, a tweaked version of Dynamo. They were currently installing a new 10-line draft tower, and preparing to add a few exclusives like "Atom Smasher" an oak-aged Marzen from 2 Bros., Allagash Curieux, and Dark Horse. The bottle list had some solid options, Cane & Ebel, Stone Smoked Porter, and Gumballhead. 2nd visit: Broodoo & Dreadnaught. Some bombers I don't see often, like Imperial Mad Hatter, Port Hot Rocks, and Avery Reverend. Beer is served in mason jars though, a gimmicky schtick that even Moonshine abandoned awhile back. Save it for the actual moonshine (which they serve), and get some appropriate beer glassware!
The BBQ here is Memphis-style, and focuses on smoked tri-tip, pork shoulder, and smoked chicken. BBQ baked beans were excellent, smoky with richness from the pork drippings. Tri-tip was very tender, beefy, and fairly smoky too. With a beer, lunch was around $15.
Service was quick and friendly. The bartender made conversation the whole time, and talked beer for a little bit. He was excited about the expanding draft list, and mentioned they would be rotating a few of them. Overall my experience was positive, and would suggest Lillie's as an alternate to Piece if it's too crowded there.
