I love the atmosphere of this place. Rustic, with lots of natural wood and exposed beams, etc. It's a casual place with a flair to fit their massive beer menu and their interesting selection of food pairings.

As I said, they have an extensive beer list--a beer-only menu is headed up by a list of rotating tap beers. Some of the variety I've sampled from their taps include Green Flash's Friendship Brew, Ommegang's Biere D'Hougoumont and North Coast's Le Merle. But if you don't find something appealing on the tap beers, there are several pages of beers, divided by the "experience" of the beer:

CRISP (delicate fruits)
CRISP (subtle hoppiness)
HOP (herbal and citric)
HOP (earthy and dry)
MALT (rich and toasty)
MALT (stiff and sweet)
ROASTED (dark and creamy)
SOUR (wild, tart and funky)
FRUIT (tart and tangy)

While I don't agree with all of their classifications, it's certainly helpful to guide your experience, or to aid someone new to the wide variety of beer styles and flavors.

I've only sampled a couple of food items: both the chicken pâté and the Hogtied sandwich are outstanding. They also have excellent "Belgian-style" fries with a host of fancy dipping sauces.

Trendy with kind of a hipster/industrial vibe. They have a good rotating selection of beer/cider both on draft and in bottles/cans. The food is good, mostly of the "american" variety with things like burgers taking the lead. They also have a great Mac 'n' cheese and a solid brunch menu with various types of eggs Benedict.

Corner restaurant in the middle of Westport, this place gives patrons a place to sit inside, away from the nightlife in Westport. Inside is a collection of smaller booths and tables, seemingly catering more towards couples and double dates than anything else. Tap list is extensive and is one of the most robust options in the Westport area. Beers are broken down by overarching style, i.e. hoppy, malty, sour, etc. allowing drinkers to focus within broad flavor categories. Service is good and quick, offering up suggestions as well. Food is fantastic, with the chicken and waffles delivering a delightfully heavy, but indulgent meal. It's well worth a visit for those seeking out a quality meal with a broad range of beer options.

Yet another worthy Westport neighborhood spot.....cross the street from McCoys, this corner spot has a comfortable and friendly feel to it....on the smaller side, with nice large windows looking out onto the street.

12 quality taps offering an array of some local and regional quality options, also a load of bottles and cans. Didn't eat here, but friends who did (I was in KC for work with a small team of others) had only good things to say.

Well worth a visit for a brew or two and a bite to eat.

Definitely going back here on my next KCMO visit.... maybe for brunch instead of dinner this time, as the brunch menu looks amazing. Hell maybe i'll do brunch and dinner at Beer Kitchen — it's that good!

Beer wise:
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE that they do 6oz pours for all of their on tap selections. More places should do this!
Instead of having 2-3 different 10-12oz (depends on glass style) beers over dinner I was able to try 5 different beers by getting 6oz pours. Helps me be able to try all the beers I want to without getting plastered and full to the brim with beer.
As far as selection goes they had a great tap line up when I was there — 2016 PumKing on tap, Prairie Paradise, Prairie Ace, Deschutes' HopZeit, etc... all very good and not something I can easily find at home. Prairie Ace was insanely delicious.

Food wise:
Hella good truffle-parmesan fries. My burger was great as well... It was cooked to perfection with a perfect pink center. Prosciutto, Maytag blue cheese and some fontina cheese.... garlic aioli and an amazing sun-dried tomato relish on the brioche bun with arugula (no shitty watery iceberg lettuce here!)... fantastic.
My wife had the vegetarian (vegan?) black bean burger.... she said it was great, especially the chipotle aioli they used, but I didn't try even one tiny bite of it because I was in beef and prosciutto and garlic aioli heaven.

Other stuff:
The 'vibe' of this place is very casual and seating capacity is smaller than I thought it would be. We had to wait 45mins for a table but luckily there were spots at the bar so we waited there over beer and fries. Perfect atmosphere for a beer and a burger. Service was great as well... bartender was attentive and even though the bar was damn near completely full I never had to wait for service — he was there to ask what's next as soon as I finished the glass.
Once we got seated at a table for dinner the waitress was the same as the bartender: was there when we wanted order and wasn't overbearing at all. Check and a to-go box came quickly and we were out the door.

Like I said: definitely going back to Beer Kitchen whenever i'm in KCMO next.

Really great spot in a cool neighborhood in Kansas City (which I thought was an oxymoron until my most recent visit.) The restaurant actually has a lot of seats but feels cozy, and is well lit and keeps the ambient noise down so you can actually have a conversation over some awesome beer.
The service was a bit hit-or-miss, as I had a bartender who went out of her way to find a substitute since they were out of Cantillon. She went back twice to double-check inventory. Also had a server a different night who didn't seem interested in talking about the limited beers, even though he seemed to know the inventory pretty well.
The selection is simply outstanding, with the only reason I'm giving it less than 5.00 being that they were out of several beers I tried to order (yet they remained on the chalkboard.) That said, there is truly something for everyone, and I ended up drinking some beer I've never seen anywhere else.
Food was a bit hit or miss as well. The chicken and waffles are incredible, probably my favorite I've ever had. The beer cheese soup (using Tank 7) was really tasty, but overly salty. However, they are definitely creative with the dishes and offer some really cool options.
Overall, one of the better beer AND food establishments I've seen.

Stopped in for a snack on a rainy afternoon last week.

Seemed mellow and & casual, the staff & customers skewed hipster

Beer was good, small sample size

Service was friendly/helpful

Selection 20-ish taps, nothing mind blowing to be sure, no crap either. Bottle selection was okay

Food was great, deviled eggs were nice

Expected way more from this place. but worth a visit none the less

Stopped by on a lark while in Kansas City, mostly due to seeing a beer cheese soup made with Boulevard Tank 7 on the online menu.

This is a trendy, pricey gastropub. There's about a half-dozen taps, which all seemed to be higher-end beers (my girlfriend and I had a Prairie Bomb! and a Jolly Pumpkin Fuego del Otono), and a more extensive bottle list that is kept updated on a chalkboard across one of the walls. The crowd and vibe is rather skinny jeans and flannel with knit hats, so not my usual sort of place. The food is quite tasty and unlike many gastropub establishments, actually comes in decently large portion sizes.

A meal for two people with a single beer apiece came up to over $60, so be prepared for the prices. We also hit during an odd time between lunch and dinner, so we got a table right away, but there was a line out the door by the time we finished and left. The service seemed rather dismissive, and the wait staff at the tables aren't all that familiar with the beer offerings.

I might or might not stop back in if ever back in town.

As in other comments about this place it is super pricey. Tons of different bottles to choose from so there is something for everyone. Nice stuff on tap as well. Service was dissapointing and we felt very out of place. Have kind of a redneck family and this place was more of a hipster crowd. Price on Abraxas was $37 and printemps was $29 so bring money if you want to drink the fancier stuff. Overall a must visit if passing by though

Possibly the best beer selection of any restaurant in KC. Some fantastic bottles that are hard to find at local stores- Abraxas, Parabola, Loons, etc. But expect your wallet to take a hit. They are proud of their selection and aren't afraid to rape you on the price. Abraxas is $17 if you can find it around town, but $41 here.

Nice chilled atmosphere. Good beer drinking can take place without the TVs or music being overbearing. Service is solid. Some of the staff seem to know their craft beer, others do not.

Burgers are fantastic. Simply some of the best in town. Fries...oh yeah. You will pay $15 for a burger and fries, but you will walk away quite satisfied with the quality.

Went here and KBS was on draft. There are very few taps, but each tap has something special on it. There is also a pretty special bottle cooler. The decor is well thought out. The food here is insane. This should be your meal stop if you are doing any beer touring. The food isn’t expensive, but the beer prices are a bit high. It was wonderful that they had KBS. It was $13 for a healthy ~13 oz pour, so even though the beer prices look high they definitely overpour a bit.

Our friend who lives in town stopped by on his work lunchbreak. He doesn't know much about beer, so he just pointed to our glasses and asked the bartender for a pour of whatever we had. 20 minutes and 2-13 oz pours of KBS for a BMC drinker....hilarious. We tried to warn him.

My wife and I went here for dinner the first night we arrived in KC for a quick vacation. The service was very good. The beer selection was very respectable. The food is very good. So good in fact we came back the next day for lunch, even better. We met the bartender Will who served us a drink he created on his own, absolutely outstanding! We decided to go back a third time for brunch, but there was a 45 minute wait and we had a 5 hour drive ahead of us, so we went to foundry. I recommend anyone in the Kansas City area to visit Beer Kitchen for a drink and brew, its worth the trip!

P.S. - Delicious, juicy, flavorable burgers. Lots of toppings choices , too.
